Canada vs Uruguay Match Preview

My ratings make Uruguay 1 goal favourites for this match and under normal circumstances, you would back Uruguay. However, this is a game neither side wanted to be playing in.

Canada come into this match with their heads held high as they were expected to lose to Argentina. They have had an extra day of rest compared to their opponents.

Uruguay’s match up with Colombia was considered an equal game. The fact Colombia had a player sent off just before half time should have given Uruguay a big chance to win the match but they couldn’t make their numerical advantage count.

Some of the players then took to the stands to fight with Colombian supporters after the final whistle, so that probably doesn’t leave Uruguay in the best frame of mind coming into this playoff for third place. Team news could be vital, but I’m going with the opinion that Canada will want this win more than Uruguay and in football, the team that wants it most sometimes comes out on top.

Argentina vs Colombia Match Preview

Argentina are likely to name the same side that easily dispatched Canada in the semi-final. They have been solid in defence during the tournament, conceding only 1 goal in 5 matches. I’m not sure how many more tournaments the great Lionel Messi has in him but he will have the passionate Argentinian fans in full voice as always.

My ratings make Argentina 0.3 goal favourites and they have also had a day extra to rest. Colombia will be a very good test for Argentina. They came through a tough semi-final against Uruguay playing the entire second half with 10 men.

Argentina are rightfully slight favourites but it will still be a tight game and a low scoring match is highly likely. Since opening, the line has moved in favour of Argentina.
