2024 College Football GW1: GEORGIA TECH V FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY

Date: Saturday 24th August

Kick Off Time: 17.00 (UK Time)

Venue: Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland.

College Football opens up the new season with an international match at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. This match has taken the best part of two years to plan and both teams are excited to travel to the Irish capital (and the home of the best pints of Guinness in the world). As this is the first match of the season, to rate the teams we will have to look at last year’s form.

Form & Betting Lines

2023/24: Georgia Tech went 7-6

2023/24: Florida State went 13-1

H2H: Last meeting October 2022: Florida State 41 – Georgia Tech 16

Match Line: Florida State -11.5  

Total Points Line: 55.5 

Jan’s Thoughts

For me, the line is pretty much about right and I have no opinion on whether Florida State will cover the spread or not. The Seminoles are expected to win the match as they are the Number One team in the ACC Division. Georgia Tech play in the same Division and were only 9th last season.

Weather Report: August remains warm in Dublin and there is a chance of light drizzle from lunchtime, but nothing too heavy is forecast. I would expect the weather to have a minimal impact on the Total Points. Again, the 55.5 line set by the oddsmakers looks about right.

The stadium itself shouldn’t have any problems as Ireland use it for rugby union and they use similar dimensions to College Football.

Sorry, I can’t help you with a tip for this match. There just isn’t any obvious value on offer. However, we are all very excited to watch the opening NCAA College Football match of the season and many bookmakers around the world will be betting In-Play on this match, so you might be able to form an opinion once it gets underway. 2023/24: South Methodist Mustangs went 11-3 (1st in American Division)

2023/24: Nevada Wolf Pack went 2-10 (12th in Mountain West Division)

H2H: No recent meetings

Match Line: South Methodist -27.5  

Total Points Line: 57 

Jan’s Thoughts

Based on last year’s form the line is bang on, but I’m going to presume South Methodist can’t get any better than they did when finishing 1st last season and I reckon Nevada can’t get any worse than last season. New  Nevada head coach Jeff Choate will be aiming to turn the Wolf Pack’s fortunes around and he’ll be hoping his running backs Pat Garwo and Sean Dollars can cause the Mustangs some problems on the ground.

With the home fans cheering them on, I think Nevada can just about cover the spread so back the underdogs at +27.5.

Weather Report: Sunshine all week leading up to the match and match day should be around 24 degrees. Pleasant conditions which should be absolutely fine for both teams.
