2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Preview – JP
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Preview
James Punt landed two winners from four bets on Friday night. Things are getting better, hopefully there’s even more to come today. Check out his 2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday preview below.
Danny Noppert vs. Daryl Gurney
I was bringing the best out in players yesterday, unfortunately the ones I was backing against. Daryl Gurney had been playing poorly in 2025, but he stepped up to the oche yesterday and blew Tricole away. Indeed, he would have blown Luke Littler away the way he was playing. It transpired that he that been playing with different points and had reverted to his old kit yesterday.
Gurney will be tested by Danny Noppert, perhaps one of the most reliable of players. He averages just under 96 for the season but his recent form sees four defeats in his last six matches. However, one of his wins was a 10-2 victory over Daryl Gurney at the UK Open last weekend.
Will going back to his old darts make a big enough difference to reverse that result? Their career H2H record is 9-8 to Noppert.
Noppert is the 1.67 favourite, Gurney 2.38. The big question is…can Gurney follow one great performance up with another? The last time he hit a ton plus averages was at the Players Championship finals, and he followed that up with 86.10. No bet.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: No Bet
Gary Anderson vs. Luke Woodhouse
Woodhouse beat Cedric Waegemans 6-4 yesterday. The local qualifier was better than expected, all four were, and Woodhouse got a bit of a scare. Woody has not been playing great despite winning six of his last ten matches. In those ten matches he has had four sub 90 averages. He did end 2024 in good form, reaching the semi-final of the European Championship and the fourth round of the World Championship.
Gary Anderson has only played five matches in 2025 and won one. He hit two ton plus averages in this last ten, but going back into 2024, Anderson has only won one of his last eight.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Anderson and he is the 1.40 favourite. I can’t be backing a player who has played so little, and what he has played has mostly been losing darts. No bet.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: No Bet
Dave Chisnall vs. Ricardo Pietreczko
Pikachu beat Matthew Dennant 6-5, a rare win for me and it was the right call to back Dennant getting +1.5 legs. The poor lad just can’t win on the Euro Tour and he missed a golden opportunity yesterday. Pietreczko only averaged 88.26 and he is not in good form, losing 55% of his matches in 2025.
The same can be said about Dave Chisnall. Only Jeffrey de Graff has hit a higher percentage of sub 90 averages in 2025 than Chizzy. He too has won six of his last ten matches but his averages have ranged from 73.30 to 109.98.
Two players in very dodgy form? No bet.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: No bet
Jonny Clayton vs. Wessell Nijman
Nijman laboured to a 6-5 win against a local qualifier yesterday and it was another sub 90 average. Nijman has won six of his last ten matches and has shown a lot of inconsistency. Four ton plus averages and a couple of sub 90s. His win rate is 68% so overall, he is in decent form.
Jonny Clayton is in good form and starting to look more like the 2021 Ferret. His win rate is 73% and he has won seven of his last ten matches, reaching the semi-final of the UK Open last weekend. He is not hitting big averages, he has only hit three ton plus averages in 2025, but plenty of 95+.
Jonny Clayton is the 1.80 favourite to win what will be their first meeting. This is very hard to call. Nijman is not very consistent but has a brilliant A game. Clayton is playing steady, effective darts and will be hard to beat.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: 1 point Jonny Clayton to win @ 1.80 with SpreadEx
Rob Cross vs. Ross Smith
Smith was another player to struggle against a local qualifier. We backed Gijbels to win a couple of legs and in the end, he took Smith to a deciding leg. Smith has won six of his last ten matches and is playing quite well, in a bit inconsistently.
Rob ‘impossible to call’ Cross is doing my head in. I have new rule for Rob Cross matches. Don’t bet on them.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: No Bet
Damon Heta vs. Michael Smith
Smith is trying very hard and he is finding joy in every match won, which is probably a result of having lost seven in a row between late November and last weekend. It was a 6-5 win over Ryan Joyce last night and he had to play well to win that.
As a performance, it was his best for a long time. It was a 97.84 average but it was more about his determination not to lose. Smith has a history of being a bit defeatist and his head can go down too easily, but he seems to be very hungry for wins right now.
Damon Heta could do with taking a leaf out of Smith’s book. The Aussie has won 68% of his matches in 2025, but he is below his best, not playing with much consistency and he is struggling against the better players.
Their H2H record is 6-2 to Smith, but they have not met since 2023. Four of their last five matches went to a deciding leg, so we may get a close one here.
Both players can be backed at 1.91 but I will take Smith to edge a close one.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tips: 1 point Smith to win @ 1.91 generally available; 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Boylesports; 0.5 point Smith to win 6-5 @ 7.50 with Betfair
Stephen Bunting vs. Jermaine Wattimena
Bunting is bound to be getting a bit down by his failure to win a PL match. Overall, he has only won three of his last seven matches, but he is scoring well. He is just finding winning very hard.
Wattimena has now won seven of his last ten matches and while he only averaged 92.63 in a 6-2 win over a local qualifier, he didn’t need to do more.
I will back the more confident player.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: 1 point Jermaine Wattimena to win @ 2.20 generally available
Nathan Aspinall vs. Ritchie Edhouse
I opposed the out of form Edhouse yesterday and he then then went and averaged 98.75 and got a 6-4 win over Owen Bates. Ten sub 90 averages in a row and then BOOM! Thanks Ritchie. A flash in the pan, or a return to form on his beloved Euro Tour? I guess we are about to find out.
Aspinall is playing with a lot more confidence thanks to getting better results in the PL. He is now in third place and he has picked up eight points in the last three weeks. That should start to rub off on the rest of his matches.
Aspinall is the 1.53 favourite, Edhouse 2.75. They played once last year and that was a 6-2 win for Edhouse on the Euro Tour. Their other six matches were all played in 2021 or 2018, and Aspinall is 4-3 overall.
2025 Belgian Darts Open Saturday Tip: 1 point Aspinall to win -1.5 legs @ 1.85 with Ladbrokes
