2025 European Darts GP Betting Preview

James Punt has been purring over the last week or so, landing a 25/1 winner and 16/1 place in Austria last weekend and three winners from four bets in his Night 13 PL preview. Hopefully he can keep his good form going this weekend. Check out his 2025 European Darts GP outright betting preview below.

2025 European Darts GP

Last weekend’s Austrian Darts Open was a good one, with our four outright selections filling the four semi-final placings. Martin Schindler was a 26.00 winner and 17.00 shot Ross Smith landed the place part of the each bet, finishing as runner up, for the third time.

There is no time to enjoy the winnings as we are straight back to business with the sixth Euro Tour event of the year, the European Darts Grand Prix, from the Glaspalast, Sindelfingen, Germany.

Unlike last weekend, when many of the top players decided not to play, we have a pretty much full contingent. Luke Littler was on the entry list, but he will not play, as he is boycotting the remaining Euro Tour events that are being played in Germany.

Michael Smith moves up to sixteenth seed as a result. Daryl Gurney has withdrawn and Martin Lukeman and William O’Connor get the call up from the reserve list.

Gary Anderson is the defending champion and maybe he will turn up to defend his title. He will need to win more Euro Tour prize money as he is just 30th on the Euro Tour OOM, and only the top thirty two will contest the European Championship.

The 2025 European Darts GP Seeds

1 Luke Humphries

Another huge average and another lost match. Humphries averaged 107.46 in last night’s PL match with Gerwyn Price and lost 5-6. He has lost five of his last ten matches and despite all the huge averages, he looks to have lost a lot of confidence. He has skipped the last two Euro Tour events and you have to wonder how much he wants to be here.

2 Michael van Gerwen

A two time winner and one time runner up. His last title here was in 2018. Van Gerwen won the German Darts Grand Prix three weeks ago but skipped last weekend’s Austrian Darts Open. He lost in the final of last night’s PL to Luke Littler, so he will be delighted that Littler is not here this weekend.

MVG has won eight of his last ten matches and from his three Euro Tour events played in 2025, he has won one and reached the semi-final of another. His form has not been hugely impressive but he has a decent draw and another good run is very possible. His form in the last two Euro Tour events he has played in has been markedly better than his general form.

3 Rob Cross

His last two European Darts Grand Prix have yielded a runner up spot and a semi-final in this event. Cross has lost seven of his last ten matches and that is what he does now, plays well and loses.

4 Jonny Clayton

The Ferret just hasn’t been able to play anywhere near his best in Europe this season. He has lost his last four second round matches, winning just seven legs. He has been doing well on the floor and won PC14 a couple of weeks ago, but there has been no sign of that form on the Euro Tour.

5 Stephen Bunting

A bit like Rob Cross, Bunting plays well and loses. That is not quite true as Bunting did win ET3 and did win a PL night. He will do better once the PL is finished. It has been another disaster for him and despite playing well, he is just getting used to defeat.

He had Littler over a barrel last night but crumbled to lose 5-6. If he could get through his first couple of matches, he could go deep, but with probable matches vs. Menzies and Joyce, he will do well to get far.

6 Damon Heta

Made the quarter final last weekend, but he needed deciding legs against Sedlacek and Cullen, before he got his usual thrashing from Ryan Joyce. Still not showing enough consistency for me, despite winning PC13.

7 Nathan Aspinall

Won the European Darts Trophy at the end of march and followed that up with the runners up spot in the International Darts Open at the start of April. Since than he has picked up another injury and his form has unravelled somewhat. Since his shoulder ‘partially dislocated, he has played seven and lost five. I don’t think his injury is a big deal but the fact that he is losing so many matches is not good.

8 Chris Dobey

Finally won a Euro Tour match in 2025 last weekend, and he went on to reach the quarter final. He lost at 4-6 to eventual winner, Martin Schindler, but his tournament average was 103.22. Dobey has been playing very well recently, but he was terrible in a 1-6 loss to Aspinall last night. His lack of success in Europe is enough to rule him out.

9 Dave Chisnall

Has a very good second round record, playing five and winning five, but his best run was to the quarter final of ET1. Chizzy has won six of his last ten matches and while he can win a match or two, he isn’t playing well enough to think he is a contender.

10 James Wade
Another player who played well in ET1, he reached the semi-final, but he has lost his opening match in his other three Euro Tour events. He has lost five of his last ten matches and the 2018 runner up is hard to fancy.

11 Gerwyn Price

Yet to get beyond the quarter final stage on the Euro Tour in 2025. Price’s best result in this event was when he reached the quarter final here back in 2016. Price has been in great form but hasn’t been able to dominate the way he once could. I have to think that he will win one of these titles, but his dreadful performance against MVG last night didn’t inspire any confidence.

12 Peter Wright

If you like horses for courses, Wright could be the one for you. Snakebite is a two time winner, a two time runner up and a beaten semi-finalist once. All that from his last seven European Darts Grand Prix. His recent form sees five defeats from his last ten matches.

He has reached two Euro Tour quarter finals in 2025 and was runner up in a recent Players Championship event. He has also won a Euro Tour event in each of the last three years. However, I don’t think he is playing well enough to have a really deep run against this current crop of players, but you never know with Snakey.

13 Danny Noppert

Ended his Euro Tour drought by winning a match last weekend, but it was just the one. He should be doing better than he does. He is not playing well enough to expect a good run this weekend.

14 Gary Anderson

Reached the semi-final of ET2 and has declined to play in the last three Euro Tour events. He is the defending champion and he needs to pick up a few thousand ranking points before he can put his feet up and not have to travel to anymore Euro Tour events.

His stage form, outside of ET2, has not been good for a while and he says that he prefers the Players Championship events more these days, but he says a lot of things. Anderson has won five of his last ten matches, but there were all floor matches.

15 Josh Rock

Back to back Euro Tour semi-finals for Rock and he is due one of these titles soon. His 2025 win rate is 70% so we should expect another good run. His form figures for his last three Euro Tour events is QF/SF/SF. Hopefully he doesn’t get a mental block about losing at the business end.

16 Michael Smith

Has only won two matches on the Euro Tour in 2025. He has won seven of his last ten matches overall, mostly thanks to a run to the semi-final of PC14 three weeks. He is not playing with any great consistency and is having far too many duff performances to think he is a contender.

2025 European Darts GP: Best of the Rest

Ryan Joyce

He gave us a good run for our money last weekend, reaching the semi-final. His last three Euro Tour events have seen him finish runner up, quarter finalist and semi-finalist. He is up to seventh on the Euro Tour OOM. I don’t think the very hot conditions in the Austrian venue did him any favours. We almost have to expect another good run.

Ross Smith

Last weekend’s runner up, and runner up here last year, Smith is getting a bit of a bridesmaid’s tag. He was a two time Euro Tour runner up last year and this year his Euro Tour form figures are SF/QF/3/QF/RU. If he doesn’t get frustrated, surely his time will come soon?

Gian Van Veen

Runner up in the German Darts Grand Prix and he has reached the final in two of his last eight Euro Tour events and he is another player who looks like a winner in waiting.

Dirk van Duijvenbode

Has won seven of his last ten matches and he was impressive last weekend but still lost his quarter final 4-6 to Ross Smith. I’m still not convinced that he is the mental strength to play his best at the business end of tournaments.

The 2025 European Darts GP Draw

First Quarter

Humphries is the number one seed and his draw is decent. Chisnall, Michael Smith and Dobey are the other seeds. Of those, Dobey looks a danger. Of the unseeded players, it seems ridiculous that Ross Smith still has to play in the first round. He is a Euro Tour specialist these days and is almost sure to meet Chisnall in round two. Smith has won their last four matches, including three in 2025 and two times on this year’s Euro Tour.

His banana skin could be Dobey in the third round. Dobey is 7-4 with Smith, but they have never met on the Euro Tour before. Should Smith win that and meet Humphries in the quarter finals, he is 2-10 against Cool Hand. Humphries or Dobey for me in this quarter.

Second Quarter

Jonny Clayton’s Euro Tour form is enough for me to scratch him off the list. Danny Nopperts lacklustre form rules him out. Stephen Bunting is likely to face Cameron Menzies in the second round and he has struggled against the Scotsman. Menzies’ form has tailed off a bit, so Bunting may get through, but is a tough opening match.

Peter Wright loves this event and that might spark him up. Snakebite’s problem is that he is likely to face the in-form Ryan Joyce in round two. They have not played since 2022 and that saw a 6-0 win for Joyce on the Euro Tour.

Joyce and Bunting look the most likely to face off for a semi-final slot and Bunting has beaten Joyce in their last three meetings, but Joyce now has a taste for this Euro Tour business.

Third Quarter

The top half of this quarter is dripping with quality. MVG is the top seed and he is likely to face Dirk van Duijvenbode in the second round. The good news for MVG is that he has Dirk under his thumb. He is 12-2 up and has won their last three.

It could be a cracking match, but Dirk may be one of the Dutch players that gives MVG too much respect. Josh Rock is threatening to win one of these, but he rarely gets a decent draw.

Rock will face the winner of the Schindler vs. Rydz match, and its likely to be Schindler. If he can beat Schindler, he would then face MVG in the third. A Schindler vs. Rock match is a toss-up, but Schindler is on home turf and is 2-1 against Rock on the Euro Tour, all semi-finals, and he beat Rock last weekend, on the way to the title.

Should Rock meet MVG, I’d have to go with MVG. Rock beat MVG 7-0 in a Euro Tour semi-final in 2023 and MVG has never forgiven him. It is MVG who has won their last four ET matches. MVG has a great record against Schindler as well, 11-2 up and 6-0 on the Euro Tour.

The bottom half of the quarter looks to be between Wade and Aspinall, and I can’t see either giving MVG, or Rock, too much trouble right now. MVG for me.

Fourth Quarter

An interesting quarter. Rob Cross is the top seed, and he will face the winner of De Decker vs. Hopp, and that should be De Decker. That’s a coin toss. Gary Anderson will likely face Gian van Veen in round two and while Anderson is 3-0 vs. Van Veen, we know that van Veen is in great form. Anderson hasn’t played for nearly a month. That too looks like a coin toss.

The two seeds in the bottom half are Damon Heta and Gerwyn Price. Heta is too inconsistent for my liking. Price has won three floor events in 2025 and I can’t understand why he hasn’t won even more titles. He is scoring really well, very consistently but he keeps on running into players having their best day. That can’t go on forever.

He has struggled against Anderson in their recent matches, but Price looks right up there with the two Lukes in terms of recent form and he gets the nod to get through Q4.

2025 European Darts GP Selections

The value bet is once again Ryan Joyce. Yes, we have more big names playing this week, but he was runner up to Aspinall in ET2 and that was only missing Littler, as is the case this weekend. Since then he has reached a quarter final and the semi-final last week. His odds are not reflecting his form. And his draw is not the worst.

2025 European Darts GP Tip: 0.5 point e/w Ryan Joyce @ 51.00 generally available

The bottom half of the draw looks to be between MVG and Price. MVG has been a tough nut to crack for Price in recent matches. MVG is 8-2 in their last ten meetings and beat Price 6-3 last night.

2025 European Darts GP Tip: 0.5 point Michael van Gerwen to win @ 10.00 with SpreadEx

The top half of the draw has Luke Humphries as the favourite for the whole tournament. He has reached the final of thirteen of his last thirty four Euro Tour events and won seven. There isn’t a lot of value in his odds and he has a bit of a losing habit.

We have backed Joyce and while a case can be made for Ross Smith, he will likely have to face Humphries on his way to the title and he struggles against Cool Hand. The draw could open up for him of course, but Humphries does have a decent draw.

Chris Dobey has never made much impression on the Euro Tour. Just one final way back in 2019. He did make the quarter final last week, ending a run of six straight defeats. He has the game but underachieves.

I am really struggling to see any great value in the top half of the draw, outside of Joyce. Stephen Bunting is in the same quarter as Joyce and he is the only other player that makes much appeal, but they can’t both make a semi-final. I will leave it with just the two selections this weekend.
