2025 Haydock & York Saturday Tips – DS
2025 Haydock & York Saturday Tips
We didn’t land a winner last weekend but we pinched some nice places. On Saturday Big Gossey and Arabian Dusk went very close and Cercene did us proud in the Irish 1000 Guineas on Sunday. Hopefully we can keep our decent run going this weekend, 2025 Haydock & York Saturday tips are below.
1.48 Haydock – Jack Berry House Handicap (Class 3)
After 28mm of rain fell in the last week, there’ll be a little bit of juice in the ground at Haydock. One horse who will appreciate a slight ease in the ground is Bosh. One of two for Michael Dods, this 6yo won twice on turf when trained by Richard Hannon but those wins came when he was a 2yo all the way back in 2021.
His most recent wins have come on the AW off 88 and 90 in early 2024 and he was sold out of the Hannon yard for 26k at the end of last season. The son of Profitable has had three runs for this yard and he wasn’t beaten that far on his second outing at Southwell. He wasn’t as good in a better race at Newcastle latest but he drops back into class 3 company here.
Bosh has had just two handicap starts on good to soft ground. He was beaten 4l when fourth off 10 off 97 at Goodwood in May 2022 over 7f and he was beaten a neck over 6f off 93 at Newbury last April. He’s 6lb lower now and if he can reproduce that, he may be able to outrun his odds of 40/1.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Bosh e/w @ 40/1 (5 places)
2.23 Haydock – Achilles Stakes (Listed)
We backed Jasour when he won on his seasonal reappearance last year and he ran a cracker behind Inisherin in the Commonwealth but his form tailed off badly subsequently. The fact he has had a wind-op is not encouraging and he has a bit to prove for now, although first time up might be the time to catch him.
The one that looks most overpriced here is the Ed Walker trained filly Balmoral Lady. By Invincible Army, she went close in a listed race at Doncaster on her final run of 2024 (6f, soft); hiked up to 99 for that, she ran another fine race off that mark on her return at Chester (5f, good) and that run deserves to be marked up as she was drawn 11.
She has another wide draw to overcome here but she’s versatile tactically so she won’t mind if she’s dropped in and held up. There should be a decent gallop here, which will suit her, and she won her only previous start over C&D. This looks a good opportunity for her to pick up more black type so Balmoral Lady is worth backing e/w at odds of 11/1.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Balmoral Lady e/w @ 11/1 NAP
2.40 York – William Hill Handicap (Class 2)
The Tim Easterby trained Spirit Of Applause could go well at a price in this competitive sprint. He has run well on his last two starts at Nottingham and Newmarket off this sort of mark and while they were class 4s, he did run very well in a class 2 at Newcastle in November so he has proven he can be competitive at this level.
He has run well here before, albeit over 7f when chasing home none other than Shaquille on debut but his last two wins have come over 5f. His last turf success came at Beverley last October off 67 but he has shown on his last couple of starts that he is capable off this rating.
Last time out at Newmarket he travelled well but got outpaced in the final furlong before staying on for a 1.5l third. I think he could be suited by a strongly run race at this track and there’s a few that like to get on with things in the field. He isn’t one for maximum stakes but at 25/1, a small e/w interest on Spirit Of Applause is advised.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Spirit Of Applause e/w @ 25/1 (4 places)
2.58 Haydock – Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes (group 3)
It is hard to make a case for any of the big outsiders here. Invisible Friend, Our Golden One and Sioux Life would all probably prefer much softer ground. The Irish raider Bay Of Sanibel would also appeal more on a softer surface. The only one at double figures I can see possibly reaching the frame is Chorus for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon.
This daughter of Kingman won a valuable fillies’ handicap at Newmarket (1m4f gd-sft) on her last start of 2024 off 83 when prominent throughout and going clear in the final furlong. She won her novice on good to firm so she won’t mind if the ground dries out here.
On her seasonal return Haggas stepped her up to listed company for the first time at Goodwood and while she was beaten 6l into sixth, she was only 3.5l behind the third. Chorus was held up that day and she may have needed the run. She will hopefully strip fitter now and if Fallon rides her a bit more forward today, she should be able to pick up some precious black type at odds of 12/1.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Chorus e/w @ 12/1 NB
3.15 York – Bronte Cup Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3)
Just seven runners here but a few firms are paying three places so I’ll take a chance on Allonsy for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. This filly surged through the handicap ranks last season, winning four on the trot. Her mark rose from 68 to 87 and she signed off with a good second in a Listed heat at Ascot last October, earning a rating of 95.
She had wind surgery in the off-season and finished behind a couple of these rivals on her return at Goodwood early this month. She was only beaten 4l for the win in fifth and she hasn’t got much to find with Scenic and Sueno, who are both much shorter prices here. Allonsy could improve plenty for that, especially as it was her first run since her wind op and at the prices, she is worth backing e/w.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Allonsy e/w @ 14/1 (3 places)
3.33 Haydock – John of Gaunt Stakes (Group 3)
Kinross won this in 2021 and the 8yo is back to try and win it for a second time. However, he hasn’t won on his seasonal reappearance for the last three years and the likeable veteran may need this run, although it would be no surprise were he to run a big race.
One that might go well at a working man’s price is last year’s sixth Quinalt. A three-time winner at Listed level, he was only beaten 3l for the win and 1.5l for the place and he will be better suited by the slight ease in the ground this year. He ran a blinder in Qatar in February to finish third behind Rogue Lightning and Washington Heights and they subsequently have run big races in Group 2 company.
Last time out he came up short in a Meydan Group 1 but he should be more competitive in this grade. Stuart Williams has been amongst the winners recently and if he can repeat the form of his run in this last year on this slightly slower ground, Quinalt might be able to sneak into the frame at odds of 20/1.
2025 Haydock & York Saturday tip: Quinalt e/w @ 20/1 (4 places)
