2025 Goodwood & Galway Wednesday Tips

We made a bright start to the week thanks to Kilmeaden winning, advised at 17/2 on X on Monday afternoon. Dave Stevos was on target again on Tuesday with his NB Witness Stand winning, advised at 16s and returning 25s. Check out his 2025 Goodwood & Galway Wednesday fancies below.

1.55 Goodwood – Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3)

When I looked at this race first on Monday night I was half-tempted by Betty Clover at 33s. However, my main angle for backing her the last twice was the fact that I thought she was best at a mile and the 33s has gone now in any case as Paul Kealy has tipped her in the Racing Post.

However, all is not lost and I think there’s another former C&D winner in here with a not dissimilar profile to Witness Stand who could outrun her huge odds of 40/1. Havana Pusey, who is trained by John Gallagher, won a handicap easily on her last visit to this venue back in May.

That win came off 87, so she’ll clearly need to better that to be competitive here but on her penultimate start at Newcastle, she ran a cracker in a G3 over 6f at Newcastle so she has proven she can mix it at this level. In that contest she finished a 3l fourth behind Diligent Harry and Annaf and 0.5l behind the 107 rated Ferrous who was third.

On that run, her rating of 96 may underestimate her and I think she is well worth another go at stakes level. Kieran Shoemark is 1/5 with two places when riding for this stable, hopefully he can improve on that 60% frame hitting strike rate on Havana Pusey at odds of 40/1.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Wednesday Tip: Havana Pusey e/w @ 40/1(4 places) NB

2.30 Goodwood – Molecombe Stakes (Group 2)

He’s taking a big step up in class from a novice win over 6f at Windsor but Rydale Frosty is interesting at a price in this 5f Group 2 for the juveniles. He just held on in that Windsor race 16 days ago, showing a smart turn of foot around 1f out and then running green. The runner up has since run down the field in a listed heat at 7f but that trip may have stretched him.

I like the fact that David Simcock’s charge is drawn in stall 3 and also that Jamie Spencer has been booked. Spencer gets a lot of stick from some quarters but he is an excellent front running jockey and I am hoping he makes this horse’s mind up for him and goes from the front.

We know he stays 6f but he has plenty of speed and his dam made all to win over 5f at two and his sire won this race, making all, in 2017. Hopefully Rydale Frosty can follow in their hoofsteps at odds of 18/1.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Wednesday Tip: Ryedale Frosty e/w @ 18/1

6.40 Galway – Galway Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

Running off a chase mark of 145 with Jack Gilligan taking off another 5lb, the classy Buddy One may be able to make his presence felt for his local yard.

This son of Sans Frontieres may not have won a Grade 1 over timber but he has run huge races in defeat at the top table at both Cheltenham and Aintree and he’s rated 7lb higher in that sphere.

His best run from just four starts over fences came over this C&D when he hosed up in a beginners’ chase in October. He proved his well-being with a confidence boosting win on the level at Ballinrobe nine days ago and that should have teed him up perfectly for this.

It looks to me like he has been trained for this and they have done us a favour here before in the Blazers a few years ago with Born By The Sea. Buddy One is 2/4 at this track and he was third in the Tribes hurdle in 2023 so he clearly likes the place and that is often a big plus at Ballybrit. At odds of 20/1 Buddy One looks a cracking e/w bet.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Wednesday Tip: Buddy One e/w @ 20/1 (5 places) NAP
