Vicario raced far too keenly off a muddling pace at Haydock on Saturday and found zero when it mattered. Danny Tudhope had a day to forget on Haunted Dream and due to the non-runners, we didn’t get paid for him nicking third. However, Power Blue pulled off a shock in the Phoenix and those who follow me on Twitter hopefully took my advice and backed him e/w. Hopefully we can find another big priced winner in the 2025 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
French Fare
We have more Group 1 sprint action in France on Sunday at Deauville. Jerome Reynier’s rapid son of Territories Lazzat is a warm order to defend the crown he won in scintillating style last year and he’ll probably be hard to beat. However, I am going to take a punt on last year’s third Beauvatier at a working man’s price.
He proved no match for Lazzat and ended up over 3l behind him in third but he’s a year older and stronger now and he produced arguably his best ever performance when beating Spycatcher and Tribalist in a 6f Group 3 here last month.
Perfect prep
That was a perfect prep for another crack at this Group 1 prize and given his record at this venue (form figures of 13331) I would imagine Monsieur Barberot has had this date circled in his calendar ever since Beauvatier passed the post in this last year.
This son of Lope De Vega has yet to score at higher than G3 level but when he has run in G1s at 6f-7f, he has produced form figures of 33334 and when he finished fourth, he was beaten only 1l in the Champions Sprint at Ascot. His draw could be better but given his overall credentials, 18/1 looks way too big a price. At those odds, Beauvatier has to be worth backing e/w.
