2020 York Day 4 Tips and Preview by Dave Stevos
2020 York Day 4 Tips and Preview of Live ITV Races
We went without a winner on Day 3 but at least we landed a couple of places. Dark Jedi ran a blinder in the opener, just bumping into one. Eagles By Day didn’t get home and connections probably regret not going for the Ebor now. I thought Roman Dynasty ran really well and he was only 2L off a place. Que Amoro landed our e/w bets at 40s and pushed Battaash all the way. Red Right Sand ran alright but faded late after being up with the pace. It is Ebor day on Saturday, check out Dave Stevos 2020 York Day 4 tips for all live ITV races below…
2020 York Day 4: 1.50pm Strensall Stakes (Group 3)
The opener on Ebor day at York is the 9f Group 3 Strensall Stakes and 9 go to post. Lord Glitters heads the market and he is an admirable sort. He usually runs to his rating and his last win came in a Group 1 last season. The son of Whipper shaped very nicely in a G2 here last time and he is a previous C&D winner. He deserves to be favourite and he should be bang there at the business end.
Those looking for one at a bigger price could do worse than take a chance on Miss O Connor. Winner of her first 4 starts, all on easy ground, she shaped as though the run was needed on her return to action at Ascot last month (8f gd).
Her trainer William Haggas is a proud Yorkshireman and he targets races at this meeting. Although she has yet to win on good ground there is no reason why she shouldn’t handle it. In fairness to her, it wasn’t that poor a run on it last time. This track suits prominent racers and I am hoping it was fitness that beat her last time. At odds of 9/1 Miss O Connor is the e/w selection.

York ITV Tips: 2.25pm – Melrose Handicap (Class 2)
The Ebor may be the headline act on Saturday at York but the Melrose is another heritage handicap that plenty will want to win. Run over the same distance as the big one, 14 3yo stayers will go to post. Favorite Moon heads the market. He scored on his first try at this distance at Haydock last time on soft and he has form on good ground too. Punctuation was 9L behind him that day off 89 conceding 12lb. However, he is 9lb better off here with that rival today.
Off 88 at Sandown last time he was only beat 3L (14f gd/fm) and he stayed on well at the finish. This son of Dansili looks like he lacks gears so he should be suited by a stronger pace. He’ll get that today and PJ McDonald looks a good booking. He has won 5 races from 28 rides for Balding, accumulating over £200k in prize money. Balding also runs Coltrane, who is on a 4 timer. However, at 33/1 I think Punctuation could sneak into the frame.
York Saturday Tips: Punctuation e/w @ 33/1 (5 Places)
ITV Live Tips York: 3.00pm – City Of York Stakes (Group 2)
Nine will go to post for this 7f Group 3 and One Master is a warm order for Haggas and Marquand. He won in gutsy fashion at Goodwood last time (7f gd/fm) and he won’t mind if there is some juice in the ground. This fella is a two time Group 1 winner and he has the best form in the race. He should be hard to beat if on song. However, the one I’ll be taking a chance on e/w at a big price is Beat Le Bon for on fire Jim Crowley and Richard Hannon.
This son of Wootton Bassett is clearly a very talented horse. He was a big eye catcher at Salisbury (8f) last time. He was extremely slowly away, losing many lengths, but he still managed to scythe through the field to finish 2nd, 3L behind a resurgent Regal Reality. There is nothing as good as him in this field and the drop back to 7f should pose no problems. Once the rain stays away and he gets a decent start, Beat le Bon has big e/w claims at odds of 16/1.

York Saturday Tips: 3.40pm – Ebor handicap (Class 2)
This is one of my favourite races and we were on Mustajeer in it last year. This year, at 33/1, I think Glencadam Glory is capable of producing a massive run here. You need a Group level horse to win the Ebor and this son of Nathaniel had form in Stakes races as a younger horse. Back then he was trained by John Gosden and he was viewed talented enough to contest the Epsom Derby back in 2017. He was only beat 7L in that and he subsequently ran with credit in a Group 2 at Ascot.
After winning a minor event at Wolves in April 2018 he lost his form and he was sold for just £8k. After a year off the track in 2019 he reappeared for Tim Easterby back in June. He ran a very nice race that day behind Red Verdon at Doncaster in a Listed heat (14f gd). He ran no sort of race on the all weather at Newcastle next time. However, his last two starts at 12f were much more like it. Easterby’s charge ran a cracker in the Old Newton Cup behind Deja off 100 (8lb better off now) and his last run at Ripon was even better.
If you backed him at Ripon you would not be happy with the ride this horse was given. His jockey claimed he was too free but he finished really well. Though he was only 5th I believe he would have won if David Allan got stuck into him. He only gave him one gentle tap of the whip and Glencadam Glory was only beat 1L at the line. Going back up to this trip will suit, the ground looks ideal and at odds of 33/1 Glencadam Glory is the e/w NAP of the day.
Saturday York Tips: Glencadam Glory e/w @ 33/1 NAP (6 Places)
2020 York Day 4: 4.10 – Julia Graves Roses Stakes (Listed)
We backed Queen Of Rio last weekend at Newbury but she could never land a blow. She still looked a bit green and it looked like things happened too quickly for her. She missed the break for a start and was always on the back foot. However, I thought she actually kept on pretty well and she could be worth giving another chance to.
The return to good ground should aid her cause and the first time blinkers might help her concentrate a bit better. The booking of Cieren Fallon catches the eye too. He has a fine record when riding for Adrian Keatley with 4 wins and 2 3rds from just 7 rides. It is only 6 days since her last run so she must have come out of it well to be taking her chance here and at odds of 50/1 she is worth backing e/w for small stakes.
