Euro 2020 Matchday 21: Semi Final Previews

Just as I hoped, Federico Chiesa got his name on the scoresheet last night. However, a late Morata equaliser meant that our 6/1 tip was a loser. The match went all the way to extra time and penalties and both teams looked absolutely exhausted by the end of the game. Italy eventually went through with Jorginho slotting home the winning spot kick. Tonight at Wembley the second semi-final sees England take on Denmark. This has the potential to be a real cracker and both teams will fancy their chances of making the final. Check out our Euro 2020 Matchday 21 semi final preview and betting tip below.

England v Denmark

Match Odds: England 8/11; Draw 13/5; Denmark 17/4.

Venue: Wembley, England.

Kick Off Time: 8.00 pm.

Back in the late 8th century, the Vikings invaded English shores for the first time. They never made it as far south as London, but this Danish team will be looking to finish the job and conquer the capital on Wednesday night. England, yet to lose and yet to concede a goal, are unsurprisingly the favourites at 8/11. The Danes, galvanised by the Eriksen incident vs Finland, have lost twice but they have still managed to reach the last four. They are the underdogs tonight at odds of 17/4 and the draw is available to back at 13/5.

England have had home advantage for all but one of their matches at Euro 2020. Luckily for them, that game in Rome was against a Ukrainian side that had shot their bolt in their 2-1 extra time win vs Sweden. England scored early via Kane and bar a 10 minute spell before half-time, it was easy street for the English once they added a second just after the interval.

Harry Kane ended up with a brace, Luke Shaw with two assists and Harry Maguire and Henderson got on the scoresheet for England too. Sancho slotted back into the team seamlessly, Rice and Phillips continued their good form and Maguire and Stones looked rock solid at centre back. Grealish and Foden didn’t even come off the bench vs Ukraine, illustrating just how much depth England possess. While Southgate’s conservative approach may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so far it has been ultra effective.

Dangerous Danes Look Overpriced

After what happened to Denmark’s star player in their opener, it was hard to know how things would go for them. They have answered those questions in emphatic style and they now find themselves in a Euro semi-final. Kasper Hjulmand and his players deserve huge credit for what they have achieved at this tournament so far and their adventure isn’t over yet.

Denmark will not fear England. They played them twice in the Nations League, drawing 0-0 at home and winning 1-0 at Wembley. The Danes won’t have Christian Eriksen this time but the likes of Dolberg, Maehle, Hojbjerg, Poulsen and Damsgaard have all stepped up in his absence. They are a well organised and well drilled outfit capable of creating chances and I think odds of 17/4 about them getting the win tonight are too big.

Judging by how their two matches in the Nations League unfolded, this could be a close game. Southgate could easily revert to the formation he utilised vs Germany, playing with three centre backs, wing backs, two holding midfielders and three genuine attackers. That is the same formation that Denmark usually use and it has worked well for them throughout the tournament. England could go out and win this game comfortably and they deserve to be the favourites, but I don’t think the Danes should be as big as 17/4. In my opinion, they should probably be half that price so I am keeping it simple and backing Denmark to win in 90 minutes.
