France vs Belgium Match Preview

Both these teams know each other well and it would be fair to say that neither are showing their best form in this competition, both finishing runners Up in the Group.

My ratings make France a 0.4 goal better team, which runs similar to the odds. Mbappe will continue to wear his face mask to protect his broken nose but this doesn’t seem to have had too much impact on his game.

Belgium stuttered in their group and really should have done better in what looked a soft group on paper. Sure, they had a trio of VAR decisions go against them but they underperformed in their last match against Ukraine.

On paper, both teams have good players and either could win this match up. All the betting money will be going on France as they are perceived to be the better side.

Even with both teams having talented strike forces it could still be a match with few golden opportunities. The goal line suggests a low scoring affair and this may be another game that could go into extra time.

Portugal vs Slovenia Match Preview

Portugal are just coming off what is probably their worst defeat in a very long time. Yes, they had already won the group but they would have wanted some rhythm going into the knockout stages.

They put out a strong side against Georgia and although they dominated possession, they failed to score or make many good impressions. Star player Ronaldo was acting like a spoilt brat and remonstrating with the officials for most of the match. Portugal will know a much improved performance is badly needed.

Slovenia somehow qualified through to the knockout stages with 3 draws. However, my ratings suggest they were the second best team in all these matches, meaning they’re overperforming. They soak up pressure quite well and they will have to do that here. Their probable goal is to take the match to penalties, which will give them a near 50% chance of qualification. However, I think the Portuguese can secure the win.
