Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy Preview
Our darting doyen James Punt has already posted an outright preview, check it out here. You can get his Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips below.
Mario Vandenbogaerde vs. Craig Galliano
Super Mario is the better player here and the 1.25 favourite, but he has only won three of his last ten matches and has lost both his euro tour matches in 2022. His confidence can’t be great and I’ll take a chance on the local qualifier here.
Galliano is a development tour player and he is improving. He has been getting his average into the high eighties recently and that may be enough against an out of form player. It is probably a good value loser, but the odds are big enough for a small wager.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 0.5 point Craig Galliano to win @ 3.80 with SpreadEx
Jim Williams vs. Willy O’Connor
Both players need to make some progress this weekend if they are to make the European Championship. Both need a minimum of a quarter final, so this is a big match for both. O’Connor, a recent ET finalist has won six of his last ten, Williams five. This will be their first meeting and across 2022 Williams has the higher average, but O’Connor will be feeling more confident after his run to the final of the Hungarian Darts Trophy last time out.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point O’Connor to win @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes
Ritchie Edhouse vs. John Henderson
Hendo is looking likely to lose his tour card unless he gets his finger out pronto. He has lost six of his last ten matches and lost his last ET match 0-6 to Danny van Trijp. That has been his only match in the last two months.
Edhouse is a bit of grinder, a steady player who does his best without setting the world on fire. He is capable of taking his chances and this must be a good one to take. He has lost his two previous matches to Henderson heavily, 1-6 and 2-6, but they were both over 4 years ago and Henderson’s game has regressed since then.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Ritchie Edhouse to win @ 1.73 with Ladbrokes
Jeff Smith vs. Wesley Plaisier
Big Wes may not have a tour card but he has played in four euro tour events this season and won six of his nine matches. He is perfectly capable of playing at a high level. He has knocked out some big names along the way and has enjoyed his opportunities on the euro tour.
Jeff Smith is under pressure to keep his playing rights for next season. He is 64th on the OOM, has lost seven of his last ten matches and the last four in a row.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Wesley Plaisier to win @ 1.80 with Ladbrokes
Evening Session
Rowby-John Rodriguez vs. Kean Barry
Rowby-John has had to take time out to be with his poorly daughter and he hasn’t played for a couple of months. His form was OK before his enforced break, but what shape he is in now is just a guess.
Kean Barry played a lot of Development matches last week and also reached the quarter final of the World Youth Championship. He has won eight of his last ten, albeit at development level. His euro tour form hasn’t been great, losing five of his last eight matches.
I have a hunch that Rodriguez might be a bit rusty and Barry is good enough to take the chances if presented to him.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Keane Barry to win @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes
Stephen Bunting vs. Daryl Gurney
Two of the big names in the first round draw go head to head early on. Bunting has lost five of his last ten but his scoring has generally been good and he has lost a couple of matches despite ton plus averages.
Superchin is stuck with a lot of inconsistency in his game, losing five of his last ten and his scoring isn’t what it once was. He has played well here in the past so he has some good memories of the tournament.
Their H2H record is 7-4 to Bunting and he is the 1.80 favourite. The odds look about right to me. No bet.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: No Bet
Martin Schindler vs. Vincent van der Voort
Schindler has lost five of his last ten matches and he isn’t in the kind of form that he was in earlier in the year. He has lost four of his six matches against an opponent who towers over him. That includes a 5-6 loss in ET 6 earlier this year.
Van der Voort can be anything but he is generally playing well enough in 2022. He has won six of his last ten matches and with a good H2H against Schindler perhaps deserves to be favourite here. As it is, he is the backable 2.30 favourite.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Vincent van der Voort to win @ 2.30 with Ladbrokes, SpreadEx
Keegan Brown vs. Mensur Suljovic
Suljovic is a two time runner up here but he is a rarely spotted character these days. He hasn’t played since August when he reached a players championship quarter final. What kind of form he is in is anyone’s guess.
Keegan Brown is fighting to save his playing rights as he is 65th on the OOM. He won PC23 just before the summer break. He has won seven of his last ten matches but like Suljovic he hasn’t played since August. Their H2H record is 3-3, so nothing between them there.
I will go for the more motivated player here at reasonable odds.
Friday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Brown to win @ 2.30 with Ladbrokes
Gabriel Clemens vs. Adam Hunt
Clemens has not had much joy on the euro tour this year, losing 8 of his opening matches. His recent form sees him losing four of his last six.
Adam Hunter is one of those players who exists in the background but keeps his card without seeming to do much. He has lost 75% of his matches in 2022 and his last four in a row.
Clemens is the 1.44 favourite, Hunt 2.80 and it is tempting to back the Hunter. However, their H2H record is 4-1 to Clemens, including a 0-6 drubbing back in July. No bet.
