Friday Night Austrian Darts Open Preview & Tips – JP
Friday Night Austrian Darts Open Betting Tips
James Punt sat out this afternoon’s session at the Austrian Darts Open. He has posted three outright tips for the event, if you missed them earlier you can check them out here. His Friday Night Austrian Darts Open preview is below.
Matt Campbell vs. Ian White
This is a repeat of a Euro Tour qualifier played on Monday, which Campbell won 6-5. That is 2-0 in the H2Hs for the talented Canadian, both close matches, 6-4 last year and 6-5 last week. Campbell is talented, but not yet consistent, which makes him a risky bet. He has won five of his last ten matches and his best performance was against White when he averaged 104.6.
Ian White is coming back from a spell of very poor form, caused by him having to play while in a great deal of pain caused by gallstones. Coming back is not like switching on a light. Confidence has to be built up and he is doing that by winning matches, he has a 70% win rate and has won seven of his last ten matches. Eight of his last ten have seen 96+ averages, so he is playing well and consistently.
White is the 1.73 favourite and Campbell 2.15. If Campbell plays somewhere near his best, he can repeat his win, but a White win looks more likely, given his general level of form. Perhaps the best course of action is to back a long, close match.

Kim Huybrechts vs. Simon Whitlock
Huybrechts has been showing some flashes of good form but his last five matches have seen four sub 90 averages, with a best of 90.87. He is blowing hot and cold, but more cold of late.
The same can be said of Whitlock. The Wizard has lost five of his last ten matches but has won the last four, all Euro Tour qualifiers. Whitlock’s highs are not as High as Huybrechts’, but he is the ultimate grinder and never gives up.
Their H2H record is 10-9 to Whitlock and seven of their last ten best of eleven leg matches have required ten legs or more. Another close one would be no surprise.

Brendan Dolan vs. Raymond van Barneveld
Dolan has won seven of his last ten matches and reached the semi-final of PC9 last Saturday. His scoring has been patchy and unpredictable, but he can win ugly.
Raymond van Barneveld is another veteran and another player whose form is good, winning seven of his last ten matches. His scoring is stronger than Dolan’s, but no less patchy. He has had four ton plus averages, including a 113.5, but also three sub 90s.
The H2H record is 13-7 to RVB but since his return to the game after his brief retirement, 2-2. Brendan Dolan does get involved in a lot of matches that end 6-5 and these two have had eight best of eleven leg matches that required a decider. That is eight from fifteen best of eleven leg matches and of those fifteen, ten went to more than nine legs.

Daryl Gurney vs. Stephen Bunting
The H2H record between these two is unusual. Usually there are a lot of floor matches making up the list, but of their previous thirteen matches, six have been on the Euro Tour (including six of their last seven) and eight of their last nine have all been stage matches. Overall Bunting has won nine, Gurney four. Bunting has won five of their last six matches, including a 6-5 win in ET2 a month ago.
Superchin has been very good at qualifying for these Euro Tour events, but he hasn’t taken his chances when he plays in the actual events. Of the first four Euro Tour events played so far, he has won just one match, a very good 6-5 win over Gabriel Clemens in ET1 in Kiel. Since then, he has lost his first round matches against Gilding, Bunting and most recently, Cameron Menzies.
Double Trouble
That was a terrible match with Gurney missing 16 doubles and losing a match that was there for the taking. Clearly, he is very frustrated and that match was a setback. Getting drawn against Bunting will have been salt in the wounds.
Bunting has won six of his last ten matches and on the Euro Tour he has played in two events and reached the final day in both, losing in round three. He will feel fairly comfortable playing Gurney, given that he has won their last four matches, three of them on the Euro Tour.
Friday Night Austrian Darts Open Tip: 1 point Stephen Bunting to win @ 1.72 with SpreadEx
Ricky Evans vs. Mensur Suljovic
An interesting match to end the night. Home crowd favourite, Mensur Suljovic, will be cheered to the rafters, but he will need all the help he can get. His form in 2023 is very poor with a win rate of just 29% and he has lost six of his last ten matches.
Ricky Evans isn’t pulling up any trees himself in 2023. His win rate is 47% but he is playing better than last year and has upped his seasonal average to 93.0 from 91.3. He has won seven of his last ten matches, he has a 5-2 H2H record over the Austrian and he has won their last five in a row. That is a bit strange as quick players have tended to struggle against the sloth like pace of Suljovic. Rapid Ricky, is by definition, rapid.
Evans is the marginal 2.00 outsider with Suljovic the 1.85 favourite. Clearly the market thinks that home advantage will be the deciding factor. I have to go against a player with such a low win rate and there are signs that Evans is heading in the right direction.
