German Darts Championship Sunday Afternoon Tips
The darting drama continues on Sunday and we have some cracking matches. TXODDS’ new signing Karel Sedlacek will be in action after a superb debut for the team last night, as will Superchin Daryl Gurney. James Punt has previewed all of today’s matches. Check out his German Darts Championship Sunday afternoon tips below.
Michael van Gerwen vs. Martin Lukeman
It was another ton plus average for MVG when he beat Jose Justicia 6-3 last night. It wasn’t all one-way traffic but, in the end, he was too good for the Spaniard. That means MVG has won eight of his last ten matches and his coring has been very strong in most.
Martin Lukeman played the best match of the day yesterday, beating Damon Heta 6-5 with Heta averaging 108 and Lukeman 104. True, Heta fluffed his lines in the deciding leg, missing a big number when trying to checkout 65. Lukeman hit back-to-back maximums to leave double 4 and he took that out after Heta’s crucial miss.
Lukeman has won six of his last ten and his last five defeats have come at the hands of Clayton, Van den Bergh, Price, Wade and Cross. Clearly, he struggles against the very top players, of which MVG is still one.
No Pressure
There should be no pressure on Lukeman, he is overachieving so far, but this is the first time he has faced MVG and he may be somewhat in awe. That said, MVG is the one under pressure, expected to win and his confidence remains fragile. If Lukeman just has a go, doesn’t get ahead of himself and plays his best, a win would not be the surprise it once would have been.
MVG is the 1.14 favourite with Lukeman at 6.50. Lukeman played better than he has ever done in his 14 months on the pro tour and it is asking a lot to expect him to repeat that feat the next day. He has been playing quite well of late. He had not hit a ton plus average until 12th February and he has hit two more since then, so he is playing as well as ever.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 0.5 point Martin Lukeman to win @ 6.50 with Unibet
Peter Wright vs. Krzysztof Ratajski
Wright was playing with his Lucky Bag darts last night, but he quicky changed them and was then able to overcome a Martin Schindler who averaged 99.6 against him. Hopefully those joke darts have been consigned to the bin. Snakebite has won six of his last ten but half those matches saw him average over 100. He is playing well, but not converting enough into wins.
Ratajski beat Jamie Hughes 6-3 but it wasn’t a great win, averaging just 89.6. He too has won six of his last ten but his scoring is not in the same league as Wrights.
Wright has a 10-1 H2H record over Ratajski and he should improve on that.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point Wright to win -2.5 legs @ 2.23 with Unibet
Ryan Searle vs. Dimitri van den Bergh
Searle holds a 6-2 H2H record over Dimitri which is a bit of a surprise. They last met in last week’s UK Open, when Searle won 10-8. That was a bit of a surprise as it is Van den Bergh who has been playing better and winning more matches, but Searle has the game to beat anyone on the day.
Van den Bergh is the 1.75 favourite despite that H2H record and as we have backed him outright, I am not getting involved in what is a tricky match.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: No Bet
Michael Smith vs. Dave Chisnall
The H2H record here is 10-8 to Smith. They have only met once in the last three years and that was in this year’s Masters when Chisnall won 10-8. Smith has won eight of his last ten matches, but he wasn’t great in a 6-4 win over Devon Petersen last night.
Chisnall beat Gabriel Clemens 6-5 in a match where he had to play the crowd as well as his opponent. Chisnall has won seven of his last ten and he is playing well, if a little to inconsistently.
Smith is the 1.61 favourite and Chisnall 2.38. It is a hard match to call. These are two of the most experienced players out there, both very talented but ultimately have not made the most of that talent. Both are in good form and we could get a good match, a long match but there is no real pattern in their past form and this is a match best passed over betting wise.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: No Bet
Joe Cullen vs. Daryl Gurney
The H2H record between these two makes for grim reading for Superchin. Cullen leads 13-4 and he has won their two matches this year 6-2 and 6-4. Cullen has won five of his last ten matches, but his most recent form saw just one win from his last six before last night’s 6-3, 102 average win over Ricky Evans. Does that big average mean his mini slump is over? We shall have to wait and see but is only a few weeks ago that he won fourteen in a row and back-to-back players championship titles.
Daryl Gurney beat Luke Humphries 6-4 last night, averaging 95.9 which put paid to our outsider bet for another week. Gurney has now won seven of his last ten matches but isn’t quite at his best.
Given their most recent H2H record, you have to fancy Cullen to prevail. He is the 1.44 favourite with most firms but SpreadEx are out of line making Cullen 1.61 and 2.00 giving up a -1.5 leg handicap, which again, is a bit of an outlier and worth taking.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point Joe Cullen to win -1.5 legs @ 2.00 with SpreadEx
Rob Cross vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
These two have met just twice with one win each. Rob Cross beat Kleermaker 6-2 yesterday and averaged 99.6, ending a run of three straight defeats. He has won five of his last ten and it is hard to say where he is form wise.
Van Duijvenbode beat Labanauskas 6-3 and it was a comfortable win, averaging 96.5. He has won six of his last ten and like Cross, it is hard to pin down his form. I would say it is improving, but he is not quite at his best.
There two previous matches have been very close, a deciding set in the 2021 World Championship and 6-5 in a pro tour match in 2019. Another close match? Very possibly.
German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.95 with Boyle sports, Fitzdares
Jose de Sousa vs. Karel Sedlacek
Evil Charlie extended his winning run to 18 matches with his 6-0 demolition of Chris Dobey last night. It was a 95.9 average and while Dobey wasn’t great, the best player won. His confidence will be off the scale and he is racking up very useful prize money which will get him to the finals and the World Championship. The fact that he has been signed up by TXODDS, is just the icing on a very nice cake.
De Sousa limped to a 6-5 win over Kim Huybrechts in a very low quality match. Both players averaged below 86. The Special One is playing like The Ordinary One right now, low on confidence and he is a very poor value 1.44 favourite. The value here is with Sedlacek who has a real chance to reach his second euro tour quarter final.
