German Darts GP Finals Night Tips

Another session, another trio of winners for James Punt. The tournament now moves into the quarter final stages and James Punt has previewed all four matches. Check out his German Darts GP finals night preview and tips below.

Martin Lukeman vs. Martin Schindler

Schindler averaged 109.2 in his 6-1 demolition of Ryan Searle. Our ante post selection just never got a look in. 109 is not his best average this year, he had a 111 last month and ten ton plus averages in the last month. It is what he can do. What he hasn’t done is win a senior PDC title.

Martin Lukeman did just enough to beat Keane Barry 6-5 in a scrappy match. He only averaged 87.5 and obviously he needs to do much better or hope that Schindler suddenly gets stage fright. He did beat Schindler 6-5 in their only previous match, last year.

Bullet Dodged

Schindler may have a bit of mental let down after that huge average, but he has followed a ton plus with another twice already this year, but his lack of titles suggests he finds winning six in a row is too much. That said, he dodged a bullet vs. Dolan yesterday, so maybe he has the bit of luck needed to finally land that first title.

The early odds have Schindler as the 1.40 favourite and Lukeman 2.90. It is hard not be to too fixated on Schindler’s huge average and he may be a little overrated as a result, but he has been playing well for a while now, and on home soil, who knows, he could go all the way, but being the big favourite can sometimes be a burden for a home player. Lukeman has won eight of his last ten matches, but his scoring is not as strong as Schindler’s and the German should prevail.

Damon Heta vs. Jonny Clayton

The crowd had little time to get their breath back before Damon Heta gave them his own display of uber darts. He started a bit slowly but then hit a purple patch with a 170 checkout, followed by an 11 dart leg and a ten dart leg to go 4-1 up. He then needed two 17 dart legs to get over the line.

It was a very hot spell that won him the match, but it wasn’t the same relentless display that Schindler put on. That said it was another ton plus average and he remains in great form, winning eight of his last ten matches. His last five averages have been 102.9, 103.4, 102.4, 99.7 and 100.1.

Top Class Display

Jonny Clayton continued the theme of top class displays by beating Max Hopp 6-1, with Hopp missing six darts to land our 6-2 bet. The Ferret came close to a nine darter, hit a 160 check out and averaged 96.99. He has won seven of his last ten matches and like Heta, his scoring is right up there.

These two played each other just eight days ago and it was Damon Heta who won 6-3. They have played six matches and it is 3-3, but in 2022, it is 2-0 to Heta.

The early odds have Clayton the 1.53 favourite and Heta 2.50. There has to be some value in Heta’s odds.

Trying to pick the winner here looks a coin toss job. Perhaps The Heat deserves favouritism given their most recent form, but they are very evenly matched.

German Darts GP finals night Tip: 1 point Damon Heta to win @ 2.50 with Ladbrokes

Keegan Brown vs. Michael van Gerwen

MVG is averaging 104.5 for the tournament so far and he didn’t have much to worry about when beating Rob Cross 6-3. That compares very favourably with Keegan Brown’s 89. Their H2H record is 10-3 to MVG and they have met in the Euro Tour five times. In those matches it is 3-2 to Van Gerwen, but Brown has won the last two, both back in 2019.

Brown will not mind being the underdog and he is free rolling now, no pressure on him, whilst MVG is still trying to rebuild his form. He is getting there but he is still prone to slipping up and offering opponents chances. However, it is Brown who is going to have to find his A+ game and we only see that in about one in ten of his matches.

MVG is the 1.18 favourite with Brown 5.50. MVG is unbackable at those odds but it’s hard to fancy Brown based on what we have seen so far. No bet.

German Darts GP finals night Tip: No Bet

Luke Humphries vs. Wesley Plaisier

Humphries was impressive in his 6-3 win over Michael Smith. Both players averaged 101 but after a sluggish start, Humphries had legs of 15 and 3x 13 dart legs which is hard to oppose.

Plaisier somehow beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-5. The Aubergenius was very poor on his doubles and from missing darts to go 4-1 up, he let Plaisier back into the game and the non-tour card holder took his chances. Dirk does get in his own way sometimes and that was a case in point. Losing with a 101 average, he gifted the match to his fellow Dutchman.

Humphries in good nick

It is less likely that Plaisier will get so many presents from Humphries. Clearly his is a capable player and he is under no pressure, but Humphries looked in very good nick this afternoon and hopefully the venue will be warm enough for him to play his best.

Plaisier has averaged 97.3 across his three games so far and Humphries is unlikely to just stroll through this. The Englishman has been made the 1.30 favourite with Ladbrokes, the first to price up the match. That may be a touch short and I expect Plaisier to play a part in the match. He’s enjoying himself and has put in three decent performances to get this far. They hit seven 180’s between them this afternoon and hopefully we will see plenty more in the quarter final.

German Darts GP finals night Tip: 1 point over 4.5 180’s @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes

That is me for this weekend. Hopefully Heta can give us a run for our money this evening.
