Goodwood and Beverley Saturday Tips Dave Stevos
Goodwood and Beverley Saturday Tips
It was overall a disappointing evening for us on Friday at The Curragh. Flirting Bridge got to the front but used up too much petrol and faded late. Drombeg Banner was dropped out and he couldn’t get into the race. At least Shabaaby gave us some relief. He drifted like a barge to 50s but Donagh O’Connor got our NAP up for place money in 5th. In From The Cold was poor and Pierre Lapin didn’t get home. Let’s hope for a better day tomorrow. Check out our Goodwood and Beverley Saturday tips for all live ITV4 races below.
1.50 Goodwood – Prestige Stakes (Group 3)
First up on Saturday on ITV4 is this Group 3 for 2yo fillies. A field of 11 are due to line up in the stalls and the ground will be on the quick side. Daneh heads the market for the Crisfords and James Doyle. She ran an excellent race in a Deauville G3 last time out behind Oscula. The ground was soft that day though and her maiden win came on the all weather so this ground is an unknown. She is by Dubawi and her dam Rizeena relished fast conditions. So, the chances are, she will be fine on it.
Hello You also has some quality form in pattern company in the book. She was placed in successive Group races at Ascot (6f hvy) and Newmarket (6f gd/fm) behind Sandrine before disappointing behind Zain Claudette at York in a G2 last time out. In her defence she didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs that day. However, she’ll need to improve for the step up to 7f to win this. She is very speedily bred so there is no guarantee she’ll get this trip.
Course Form
Goodwood is a tricky sort of track and not all horses handle it. Previous course form is always a big positive in my book, especially winning form. Andrew Balding is having a fine season with his juveniles and Wilderness Girl scored on her second career start over today’s C&D a month ago. That came on good to soft but she showed on her debut that she could handle quicker conditions too when 4th behind Ardbraccan.
She beat Brazilian Beach when winning here. While she let the form down next time, her stablemate Typewriter who was over 5L back in 4th subsequently shed her maiden tag at Nottingham. Cieren Fallon is 1/1 for Balding and he takes the ride. Jason Watson rides Balding’s other filly, Star From Afarhh, and she would be of interest only for flopping badly at Sandown a week ago. I wouldn’t be too surprised if she ran a better race today. However, Wilderness Girl’s previous course experience gives her the edge. At odds of 14/1, she is the each way selection.

2.25 Goodwood – Tote Quadpot Handicap (Class 2)
As I’ve mentioned already, course form is crucial at Goodwood and Kimifive is a horse with plenty of it. Formerly trained by Joe Tuite, he is now in the care of David Bridgewater. He is better known for his exploits with NH horses but he has trained winners on the flat in the past. Bridgy has inherited a nice horse with Kimifive, a previous C&D winner who has hit the frame on four of his six previous runs at this track.
Last season this fella was beaten by the width of a cigarette paper in the Steward’s Cup here over 6f off 92. His C&D win came off a mark of 88 and he races off the same rating today. Nicola Currie gets the leg up and the Scottish jockey has form figures of 116246 aboard this son of Born To Sea. Kimifive was 3rd off 92 on his last visit to Goodwood (7f gd/fm). The more the ground quickens, the better his chance will be. If he can repeat the form of his last two runs at this track, Kimifive will be hard to keep out of the money at odds of 9/1.
Goodwood and Beverley Saturday Tips: Kimifive e/w @ 9/1
2.45 Newmarket – Hopeful Stakes (Listed)
This 10 runner Listed heat looks a very tricky puzzle to solve. Former G3 winner Tabdeed is the market leader after a fine run behind Happy Romance at Newbury last time out. He is by far the best treated by the conditions of this contest. He is rated 110 but he only carries 9st 1lbs. He’d be giving the likes of Mums Tipple and Summerghand weight in a handicap. However, in this race he is receiving 3lbs and 5lbs from those lower rated horses respectively.
The interesting one at a deent price is Adaay To Remember for Patrick Owens and John Egan. This 3yo filly carries a nice low weight of just 8st 7lbs. She absolutely hosed up in a C&D fillies handicap last time by 3.5L, despite racing a touch awkwardly. That was her second win from four starts, with both defeats coming on easy ground. The filly she beat is a progressive type and that was her only defeat from five starts this season. She went on and won her next outing by 2.5L.
Hollie Doyle rode her that day and you would imagine she recommended going for black type with this filly. She is engaged at Windsor tomorrow but John Egan is a more than able deputy. Trip and ground both look ideal and this filly could yet rate a good bit higher than 89. She has won her two starts on good ground by a combined distance of over 8L and at odds of 12/1, Adaay To Remember looks worth chancing each way.
Newmarket Saturday Tips: Adaay To Remember e/w @ 12/1
3.00 Goodwood – March Stakes (Group 3)
Just the five go to post for this 14f Group 3 and Nagano is even money for Varian and Egan. A handicap winner over 12f here last time on soft ground, he has now won three of his last four starts. However, both those wins came on ground with an ease. His two runs on faster surfaces both resulted in defeat. When he was 6th at Ascot over 12f in June it didn’t look like he was crying out for this kind of a trip so he doesn’t look bulletproof
Gavin Cromwell’s raiders are always worth keeping an eye on and he runs 3yo filly White Pepper here. The booking of Frankie takes the eye but surely she would need slower ground than she is likely to get at Goodwood. It was yielding for her impressive win at Tramore last time out and her rating of 84 leaves her with a mountain to climb. Dancing King has pattern form in the book and he gets this trip. The ground looks ideal for him and he looks the most likely to cause an upset. However, the bookies aren’t taking any chances with any of them. This is a definite no bet race for me.
Goodwood and Beverley Saturday Tips: No Bet
3.15 Beverley – Beverley Bullet Stakes (Listed)
This 5f dash will be contested by a dozen speedsters and the winners of the last two renewals are at the top of the market. Dakota Gold won it in 2020 but he has failed to hit top gear so far this season. He’d prefer softer ground too. Last year’s victor Judicial is also back for another crack and he has already beaten Dakota Gold by 2L when they crossed swords at Chester earlier this month. He is 3lb worse off today hut he should be capable of upholding the form.
Those looking for a bit of each way value could do worse than take a chance on Wise Words at double figure odds. This ultra consistent daughter of Sepoy has rattled the crossbar on all three starts in Listed company this season. She was beat a head by Declaring Love on her return at Bath (5f gd/fm). On her next start in another Listed heat she was just 1.25L behind the 108 rated Keep Busy. Then last time out she had another near miss in a Listed contest at Deauville. She deserves to get her head in front and hopefully she gets the breaks today. At odds of 11/1, she looks a solid e/w bet.

3.35 Goodwood – Celebration Mile (Group 2)
On his day, Benbatl is an absolute Rolls Royce of a racehorse. Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge would win this doing handstands if he was fully revved up. The triple Group 1 winner is rated 118 but on his day, he is capable of running to 7 or 8lbs higher than that. However, he has been very lightly raced in recent times and you would imagine he will come on for the run.
One horse that won’t lack for fitness or race sharpness is Goodwood specialist, Duke Of Hazzard. The 2019 winner of this race is 3/5 at this track. The only time he finished outside the first two, the ground was soft. He needs good ground to show his best and he gets his optimum conditions today. James Doyle has had a couple of sighters on him on his last two outings and he keeps the faith in him this afternoon. He finished 6th on him in a G3 at Salisbury and then he ran a nice race over 9f at York in similar company, finishing 3rd behind Real World.
He was only a length behind Lord Glitters that day and it looked like the trip just stretched his stamina. It was a fine run though and it looks like he is coming to the boil nicely. Connections have probably had this race in mind for Duke Of Hazzard since the start of the season as it probably represents his best chance of adding another Group 2 to his CV. He has a lovely draw in stall 1 and with trip, ground and track all to suit, he is the e/w NAP of the day at odds of 12/1.
