Lingfield Friday ITV Racing Tips and Preview
The Lingfield All-Weather Championships kick off what promises to be a cracking bank holiday weekend of racing action. The ITV cameras will be there and some seriously talented horses will be on show. With races over trips from 6f all the way up to 16f there is something for everyone. Hopefully we can get a couple of places and maybe even a winner on the board. Check out Dave Stevos Lingfield Friday ITV Racing Tips below…
Lingfield 2.00 – All-Weather Marathon Championships (Class 2)
The first live race of the day from Lingfield on ITV is the marathon. Just 7 stayers are due to go to post and with the Betfair Sportsbook playing 3 places e/w, I am backing Island Brave. This horse owes us nothing after winning for us at monster odds at Ascot back in August. He wasn’t as good in three runs afterwards. However, his last two runs of 2020 at Kempton and Newcastle make him of interest here.
He was beat just 1.5L in a handicap at Kempton in November off a mark of 97. He then followed that up with a lovely win in a class 2 conditions race at Newcastle (16f). Island Brave had Australis and today’s favourite Rainbow Dreamer in behind and he was given a three month break after that stellar effort.
The reason for this fella’s big price is that he ran poorly on his comeback at Newcastle last month. However, I reckon Heather Main was using that race as a pipe opener for a crack at this huge pot. Martin Dwyer usually rides this fella cold but last time out he was up with the early pace. I fully expect the waiting tactics to be re-deployed on Friday and Island Brave has career form figures of 31312 at this track. At odds of 16/1 Island Brave is the e/w NAP of the day.

Lingfield 3.10 – All-Weather Sprint Championships (Class 2)
A dozen sprinters will go to post for this 6f heat and the one I like at a decent e/w price is Tinto. This horse is rarely beaten far and he is often a hostage to fortune given his running style. He is usually dropped out and produced late and in recent runs he hasn’t had the rub of the green. The son of Compton Place has some solid form at Lingfield and he ran a huge race on his last visit when chasing home Exalted Angel.
He was last turning in and Joe Fanning went for the brave man’s route up the inner. That move backfired though and he could never really get fully stuck into his mount. At the finish Tinto was only 1.5L behind the winner in 5th and he had a couple of today’s rivals in behind. Clearly, given his running style and his propensity for starting slowly, luck will be required if he is to win. However, he most definitely has the ability to feature if things fall into place and at odds of 14/1 an each way bet is advised.

Lingfield 3.45 – 3yo All-Weather Championships Stakes (Class 2)
I was extremely sweet on Water Of Leith the last day when he flopped at this track. However, he went absolutely nuts before the race and Charlie Bennett had to walk him down to the start. After those antics it wasn’t surprising that he ran flat. However, he is a far better horse than he showed that day. He has since moved yards to Rebecca Menzies and I think she has got herself a very promising horse.
This son of Kodiac blotted his copybook last time but he looked a horse with huge potential on his previous two outings at Wolves. He scored on his all-weather debut at that track in a December Novice over 6f. He followed up in good style in a similar heat on his next start. The form of his first win isn’t great on paper but the horse he beat on the second occasion has since won a handicap off 88.
Those two pulled a fair distance clear of the remainder and I think it is solid form. John Egan takes over in the plate and his draw in stall 6 shouldn’t be an issue. He was held up for his first win and he raced prominently for the second one, so he is versatile tactically. I am willing to forgive him that poor last run and at odds of 40/1 a small e/w interest is advised.

Lingfield 4.45 – All-Weather Mile Championships Stakes (Class 2)
Marco Botti has his horses in super shape and I think Mission Boy could outrun his odds for him here. This son of Paco Boy has been a model of consistency in 2021. His three runs at Lingfield, Kempton and Wolves have yielded form figures of 243 respectively. His 2nd at Lingfield on his return from a break was a cracker when you consider how keen he was.
That came in a handicap off a mark of 100 and he was beat just a length off 99 last time out at Wolves. This horse was a solid performer in Italy where he scored at Listed and Group 2 level. His rating of 99 leaves him with a fair chunk to find with the highest rated of these. However, if he can build on his last three outings I believe he can be competitive. Adam Kirby has ridden heaps of winners for Marco Botti and he gets the leg up for the first time. Hopefully he can get a good tune out of him and nick some place money at odds of 22/1.

Lingfield 5.15 – 3yo All-Weather Championships Apprentice Handicap (Class 2)
7f is the distance for this apprentice handicap and at odds of 14/1 I’ll be taking a punt on Oh This Is Us. Richard Hannon has started the season very well and Luke Catton takes a handy 5lb off this fella’s back. This 8yo son of Acclamation is a really talented type and he will come on bundles for his comeback run when well beat at Wolves. He was an excellent 3rd behind Astro King on his final run of last season off 104 and he is in off 1lb lower today.
With his jockey’s allowance he is effectively running off 98, 3lb lower than he was when winning for Ryan Moore at Chelmsford in September (7f). He won the mile race at this meeting a couple of years ago and he was a handicap winner here off 110 in Feb 2019. I think he is too well handicapped to ignore and this jockey has placed on him before. At odds of 14/1 he looks sure to give e/w players a good run for their money from stall 1.
