Newmarket Friday racing Tips For ITV4 Races
Preview of ITV4 Live Races At Newmarket
We had a tough day on Saturday last weekend, though at least most of our selections ran well. Bubble And Squeak ran a blinder, just missing out on place money when looking like she might win at one stage. Commanche Falls was advised for 5 places and you guessed it, he finished 6th at 66/1. Madeleine Must ran a decent race too, she was just given too much to do by Harry Bentley. At least Waldgeist ended our losing run at 20/1 in the Arc on Sunday and what a horse he is. Dave Stevos is back in action today, check out his free Newmarket Friday racing tips for all live ITV4 races below…
Newmarket Friday Racing Tips: 1.50 Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3)
We plunge straight into pattern company in the opening race at Newmarket, the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes. A field of 14 juvenile fillies (9) and colts (5) will go to post. and Godolphin, who sponsor the race, provide the two market leaders. Platinum Star is the one that heads the betting for Bin Suroor and Murphy.
The son of Lope De Vega boasts strong form with 2 wins from 6 starts, including a Listed heat last time. He has had just 1 start at today’s trip of 5f, a close 2nd in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. That came on soft, so he won’t be inconvenienced if the rain arrives. He is a solid favourite. He has a very nice pedigree too, his Acclamation dam being a half sister to Arcano.
Unbeaten Lazuli hails from the Charlie Appleby yard, a son of super sire Dubawi. He has won both his starts so far, but those victories came on fast ground. One of his four winning siblings handled soft, but the other three didn’t so the percentage call is to oppose on easy ground. One that looks overpriced at massive odds is Poets Dance from the ultra-shrewd Rae Guest yard.
Rated just 78, this half-sister to Beckford has heaps to find on paper but she has some half decent form in the book. She has 2.5L to find with Flaming Princess on debut running and Poets Dance fell out of the stalls that day at Nottingham. Flaming Princess is 14/1 here while Pets Dance is 66/1. She has 2.5L to find with Jouska too (25/1 today) and with a faster pace/stiffer track here she could get a lot closer. Platinum Star should win, but at the prices a small e/w interest on Poets Dance is the way to go.
NEWMARKET FRIDAY RACING TIPS: POETS DANCE E/W @ 66/1 (50/1 4 PLACES AVAILABLE)
Newmarket Preview Friday: 2.25 – Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3)
Another favourite for Saeed Bin Suroor and Oisin Murphy in this Group 3 for 2yo fillies. Just like Platinum Star, Final Song probably has the best form in the race. She was a fine 3rd in the Queen Mary at Ascot behind Raffle Prize. Upped in trip last time to 6f she was 2L behind the same horse and a head behind Daahyeh, form that earned her a rating of 103. Easy ground holds no fears and while her 3 month absence is a worry, she will have plenty of supporters at 2/1.
Stylistique has form with Daahyeh too and at the prices, she probably represents value against the fav. However, it could be worth taking a chance on Valeria Messalina at double figure odds. This filly was only unleashed at Naas 3 weeks ago and she scored on debut by a nose (7f gd). She is the pick of Shane Foley (Harrington also runs Nope). While the form of her win hasn’t worked out, significant improvement could be forthcoming. She has a lovely pedigree, by Holy Roman Emperor and a half sister to Pincheck (soft ground winner), so a chance is taken on her e/w at 14/1.
NEWMARKET FRIDAY RACING TIPS: VALERINA MESSALINA E/W @ 14/1
Newmarket Friday Racing Tips: 3.00 – Godolphin Challenge Stakes (Group 2)
This 7f Group 2 has attracted the smallest field of the day with only 5 going to post. It is a tight and trappy looking affair and it is hard to find a good angle. I am a Solar Gold fan but she was very disappointing last time when I fancied her. She could outrun her odds but with just 2 places for e/w bets, I won’t be getting involved. No bet.
NEWMARKET FRIDAY RACING TIPS: NO BET
Newmarket Racing Preview: 3.35 – Fillies’ Mile (Group 1)
The feature race on Friday at Newmarket is this Group 1 for 2yo fillies. Quadrilateral is the jolly after a spectacular win last time for Roger Charlton. The hype train is in full effect for the daughter of Frankel who is the 1000 Guineas favourite (12/1). This is a huge step up in class though and the form of her last win has yet to be tested.
Cayenne Pepper is 3/3 and her form is much stronger. She beat Moyglare 3rd So Wonderful easily in a Group 3 last time (8f gd/yld). A bit of cut shouldn’t bother her, but proper soft ground would be a worry as she is by War Front. Love won the Moyglare (7f gd) and she has won 3 of her last 4. Her defeat came on yielding so her supporters will be watching the weather. She also was no match for Cayenne Pepper on her debut, though it is unwise to read too much into that effort.
The ground is a worry for Powerful Breeze and Boomer, closely matched on May Hill form. I was very taken with Ananya’s win here on the July course earlier this season (7f gd). She ran a massive race after blowing the start by 10L in the Sweet Solera (7f gd/fm), finishing just 3L behind the winner West End Girl.
The ground is an unknown for her too, but her pedigree offers hope she will handle it. 2 of her 3 half siblings won on easy ground (gd/sft and heavy) and her grand-dam is a half sister to soft ground Group 1 winner Rafha, the dam of Invincible Spirit. Those looking for a bet at a big price could do worse than have a small e/w bet on her, but Cayenne Pepper looks the most likely winner.
NEWMARKET TIPS FRIDAY: CAYENNE PEPPER WIN @ 11/4 NB; ANANYA E/W @ 66/1
Newmarket Racing Preview: 4.10 – Old Rowley Cup Handicap (Class 2)
The last live ITV4 race at Newmarket on Friday is the Old Rowley Cup Handicap. This 12f contest has ‘only’ attracted 19 runners so finding the winner should be a piece of cake! Plenty of bookies are paying out on 5 places e/w so backing one e/w at a big price for small stakes makes sense. The early money has come for Kiefer and back on easy ground and dropped in trip he should run well.
However, the one I like a lot here at odds of 16/1 is Skymax for red hot Ralph Beckett and Richard Kingscote. This son of Maxios hosed up on his last start over 12f (gd/sft) and he ran well over 14f on quicker ground in the Melrose. He won a nice handicap over 10f here last season and he has the look of a horse that has been laid out for this race. Soft ground should be fine for him and Beckett won the last two races at Kempton on Friday so clearly his string is thriving. At odds of 16/1 Skymax is the each way NAP of the day.
NEWMARKET TIPS FRIDAY: SKYMAX E/W @ 16/1 NAP
