Newmarket Saturday Racing Tip – Dave Stevos
Saturday Newmarket Racing Tip
I had fully intended to take this weekend off but I can resist everything except temptation. We had an incredible week at Glorious Goodwood and Galway. It was capped off by another 16/1 winner on Sunday and I reckon it’ll be a long time before we do as well at those two meetings again! There is a horse in the Sweet Solera on Saturday who it might be worth reinvesting some of our winnings in. Check out Dave Stevos’ Newmarket Saturday Racing Tip below.
3.40 – Sweet Solera Stakes (Group 3)
We have had to suffer not just one, but two racing ‘team events’ this week. The Racing League and Shergar Cup are hard concepts to get excited about and they certainly don’t float my boat. At least we have some traditional racing on Saturday, including the G1 Phoenix Stakes in Ireland and this race, the G3 Sweet Solera for the fillies. Only six go to post in Ireland so I am swerving that race, but in the Sweet Solera I am going to have a few quid e/w on Inanna.
Trained by Sean Woods, this filly was a bit of a madam in the prelims on her first run at Haydock. She got loose before the race but she still took her chance and won by a head from Satirical (7f gd). A further head back in 3rd was Lakota Sioux, a 7/2 shot for today’s race. That filly hacked up by 6L on her next start before running with credit in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Inanna, on the other hand, has only had one run since and it came in the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown (7f gd/fm).
Troubled Passage
Tom Marquand was in the plate and he couldn’t get her into a prominent position early like she had at Haydock. Instead, she got squeezed out just after coming out of the stalls. Marquand had to take his medicine and he settled Inanna in rear. As the pace began to lift in the home straight, Inanna was caught in a bit of a pocket. Tagline was more or less pulled up and as she dropped back it was another inconvenience for the Woods’ filly. By the time she got full daylight the race was over but she did manage to stay on well to nick 5th.
Back behind her in 7th was Ipanema Princess. She came out and ran a massive race behind Sydneyarms Chelsea in a Deauville G3 earlier this week. Lady Alara was 2.5L ahead of Inanna in 3rd and she is a 6/1 shot today. If things had gone more smoothly for our selection in that race I think she’d have finished a lot closer to the Hills’ filly and on this track, she could well turn that form around. I don’t think Inanna should be 8x the price of Lakota Sioux or over 4x the price of Lady Alara and if she doesn’t act the maggot in the prelims, she could sneak black type at 28/1.
