Newmarket Saturday Racing Tips for ITV4 Races

Preview of All ITV4 Live Races At Newmarket

Last weekend was a struggle again with none of our three runners making the frame. Pyledriver ran no sort of race and he may need more time to mature. Dark Lady beat Millisle on her previous start but the form was turned around spectacularly. Siskin got upset in the stalls but thankfully will live to fight another day. Nicholas T wasn’t disgraced, he just couldn’t land a blow for us despite attracting support in the market. There is more high class action at HQ this weekend with a trio of races live on ITV4. Check out Dave Stevos Newmarket Saturday racing tips below…

Newmarket Saturday Racing Tips: 1.40 Fillies’ Handicap (Class 2)

This valuable 10f handicap kicks off proceedings on Sun Chariot Day at Newmarket. The remnants of Storm Lorenzo are due to bring heavy rain on Friday so conditions could be very testing. The current favourite Scentasia has done all her winning on good to firm and soft and heavy ground is an unknown. In fact, none of the top 6 in the market have worthwhile form on anything worse than good to soft ground.

This race could cut up considerably if the rain arrives and one horse that has decent form on very soft ground is the rag, Bubble And Squeak. This former course winner (9f gd) has also won twice on good to soft and she ran well in a Listed race in France last November on very testing ground. She is only 3lb above her last winning mark and William Carver’s 5lb claim could be crucial. He is 1/3 when riding for Kirk and with 25/1 widely available, Bubble And Squeak is the each way selection.

Newmarket Preview Saturday: 2.15 – October Auction Stakes (Class 2)

A monster field of 28 2yos will line up in the stalls for this £150k sales race. Under The Stars is extremely well treated by the conditions of the race and is the 7/4 fav. However, soft or heavy ground is a complete unknown for James Tate’s daughter of Night Of Thunder. One horse that has a bit of form on heavy at a huge price is Commanche Falls.

This fella is trained by Michael Dods and he is a half-brother to Dakota Gold. That gelding is a multiple soft ground winner for the same trainer and was 5th in this in 2016. He won nicely on good to soft on debut before running poorly on good to firm next time. Last time out at Ayr he was 4th of 5 on heavy at Ayr (6f) but he was only 1.25L behind the winner Fuwayrit. Commanche Falls was conceding 5Lb to that colt (now rated 89) and he was closing rapidly on him at the finish.

He was backed off the boards too, so he clearly he must be highly thought of by connections. He has looked as though he lacks concentration at times, including when he won on debut, so the cheekpieces could help him to focus. This stiff 6f at Newmarket could really suit him and if it comes up soft or worse Commanche Falls could ambush his rivals. At 40/1 (5 places), he is the each way selection in an open looking race.

Newmarket Saturday Racing Tips: 3.25 – Sun Chariot Stakes (Group 1)

The feature race of the day on Saturday at Newmarket is the G1 Sun Chariot Stakes. For fillies and mares aged 3yo and up, a field of 9 have been declared. Of the main contenders, only Hermosa has winning form on soft ground and that was only in a maiden. Iridessa has placed form on soft while last year’s winner of this race Laurens didn’t go well the only time she encountered it.

One filly that comes into this race under the radar is French raider Madeleine Must. This daughter of Motivator hosed up in her maiden on soft, though it was admittedly a moderate race. However, she proved she was pattern class next time, going close in a Listed heat at Longchamp (8f gd). She was very impressive last time at the same track, winning a Listed race easily (8f gd). That race was the first ever time she was dropped out in rear and the change of tactics really suited her.

In her previous races she was very keen in the early part of her races, including for her maiden win. The fact she was able to be competitive despite being so headstrong is an indication of just how talented she is. I am hoping they go a strong pace early on and that Harry Bentley gets this filly settled. If he does, she has a very nice turn of foot and she could finish fast and late for a place at least. At odds of 25/1 Madeleine Must is the each way pick.
