Night 11 Premier League Darts Preview

Aberdeen is the venue for tonight’s instalment of the Premier League of Darts and things are hotting up. On Night 10 The Machine James Wade eventually came out on top, can he make it two wins in a row? Check out James Punt’s Night 11 Premier League of darts preview and tips below.

Jonny Clayton vs. Gary Anderson

Gary Anderson is 11 points adrift of the play off places with just 6 more nights before the final places are decided. With a maximum of 5 points available every night, Anderson is technically able to pick up 30 more points, but it is unlikely. He has only scored 7 points from the first ten weeks, and he has won just four matches. He has lost seven of his nine opening matches, but one of the rare wins was against Jonny Clayton, a 6-5 win in a poor match.

Home Comforts

This weekend we are in Aberdeen and Anderson will have the crowd on his side. Anderson has played nine PL matches in Aberdeen and won seven, drawn one and only lost one. His recent form sees just three wins from his last ten matches. He reached the final of PC5 a month ago, losing to Damon Heta and he was playing at the top of his game, having won Night 5 on the Thursday before. Since then, his form has taken a dive. Will a return North of the border be enough to lift his game?

Jonny Clayton continues to play well but without winning a title since last October. He lies second in the PL table, winning twelve of his twenty matches so far. He has won six of his last ten matches and three of his last four against Anderson.

At almost any other venue, this would likely be a question of not who wins, but of how much Clayton wins by. But in fortress Aberdeen, we have to expect a better display from Anderson. Clayton is the 1.40 favourite, Anderson 3.20. No bet for me.

Night 11 Premier League Tip: No Bet

Peter Wright vs. Joe Cullen

Peter Wright has now lost four matches in a row and won just four of his last ten. He has not won a PL night since Night 1, but he has won seven of his ten opening matches and he sits in fourth place.

Joe Cullen has the lowest average in the league at just 92.3, but he has won one night and been runner up twice, including last week. Overall, he has lost five of his last ten matches and his form is very hard to predict.

Their H2H record overall is 22-6 to Wright, in 2022 2-1 to Wright and in this year’s PL, 1-1, both matches ending 6-4.

This is a hard match to call. Both players are not in good form and are hard to predict. Their last six best of eleven leg matches have seen five lasting 10 legs or more.

Night 11 Premier League Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.00 with Boylesports

James Wade vs. Michael Smith

Smith has won just five of his fifteen PL matches and is the only player not to have won any of the previous ten nights. He is above only Gary Anderson in the table and ten points off the play off places. Smith has won six of his last ten matches but lost his last four PL matches. It doesn’t matter what he does, he just loses. If he plays poorly, he loses. When he plays well, he loses. He hasn’t beaten a top 16 player for a month, and he probably doesn’t look forward to Thursdays.

James Wade is showing Smith what can be done when you are adrift in the league. A month ago, Wade was at the bottom of the table but in the last three weeks, he has made every final and finally won the full five points last week, moving him up into the top three.

Double Troubles

Smith’s game is better in pretty much every department, expect clinical finishing. Smith hasn’t been bad in terms of checking out, but Wade is better when it really matters. He is arguably the most effective player in the game and that is a match for Smith’s heavy scoring.

Their H2H record is 18-6 to Wade, but Smith has won both their matches in 2022. Smith thrashed Wade 6-1 when they met on night six. Both players averaged 102, but Smith won 6-1.

In terms of recent form, Smith has won six of his last ten, as has Wade. The market has Wade as the 1.90 favourite, Smith 2.00. I can’t argue with those odds. The side markets are equally lacking in value.

Night 11 Premier League Tip: No Bet

Gerwyn Price vs. Michael van Gerwen

Price has had a hold on MVG in the last few years. It took him a long time to get his first win against MVG, but Price is 4-1 since 2021 and in 2022, 2-0. However, Price, never a lover of the PL, is out of form. He fractured his hand which caused him to lay off practicing and his form has suffered.

He has lost five of his last ten matches and his scoring has taken a bit of a nosedive. In his last ten matches, he has hit just one ton plus average and 6 sub 93s. MVG on the other hand has hit seven ton plus averages in his last ten.

Unwell

Price withdrew from the German Darts Grand Prix at the weekend due to sickness. I assume he has recovered, but he has had a lot of things going wrong with his health and fitness this year and another tournament missed is not what he needed. Van Gerwen is playing more like his old self, but he’ll never get back to the win rates he had in his prime. His confidence is just not what it once was, the opposition is stronger, and we keep on seeing him miss the big darts nowadays.

MVG has struggled against Price recently. Price is now the bigger dog, the man. MVG may kid on that he is still the player everyone fears, but it is no longer true, and he knows it. However, Price is in poor form and unless he gets inspired by the chance to beat his old foe once again, he is there for the taking.

Van Gerwen is the 1.80 favourite and he is worth taking a chance on.

Night 11 Premier League Tip: 1 point Michael van Gerwen to win @ 1.80 generally available
