Night 13 Premier League of Darts Preview – JP
Night 13 Premier League Darts Preview
It was six losers from six last week, surely this week has to be better? Well, it is the Premier League, so who knows. It’s Glasgow tonight, and if Aberdeen was anything to go on, we can expect the crowd to play a big part, but not in a good way. Check out James Punt’s Night 13 Premier League Darts tips below.
Gary Anderson vs. Peter Wright
The organisers are getting the all Scottish match out of the way early, just to get the beer flowing. Of course, in the crowd’s eyes, there is only one Scotsman playing tonight, unless Anderson goes out early, and then the other one will have to do.
St. Gary of Anderson is dead and buried. Adrift at the bottom of the league, 13 points off the bottom of the play off places. He has lost nine of his eleven opening matches and comes here on the back of five consecutive defeats, the last four all 2-6.
Anderson does have a very good record in Glasgow, winning six of his seven PL matches here and the crowd will be on his side against the not quite Scottish enough Wright.
Snakebite Play-Off Bound
Peter Wright is now looking likely to make the play offs. He is five points clear of Joe Cullen in fifth place, and while he has not won a night since the very first one, he has at least won five of his last seven opening matches. His PL win rate in this format is 50%, which isn’t great but looks like being good enough. Wright comes here in worse form that Anderson, having lost seven of his last eight matches.
Their H2H record is 32-24 to Anderson but more telling is that in 2022 it is 4-1 to Wright and in the PL, 3-1. All three of Wright’s wins went over 9.5 legs.
Hard To Call
Peter Wright is the 1.44 favourite, Anderson 3.00. It is a hard game to call, Anderson is a god like figure to his adoring, very pissed up fans, but he is playing poorly and probably can’t wait for the whole PL thing to be over. Can he dig deep and keep the Anderson ultras happy? It would be an upset. Wright, despite, losing so many matches, has been scoring better than Anderson. He has got into a losing habit, but he has played well enough in the quarter final matches.
In his last four quarter final matches he has averaged 99.5 and won two. Anderson has averaged 94.1 in his last four and lost all four.
I’ll go for Anderson to dig deep at ‘home’ raise his game and narrowly lose again. Either that or Anderson loses 2-6 again.

Jonny Clayton vs. James Wade
The table topper, Clayton, vs. man of the moment, Wade.
Jonny Clayton’s consistency, so well suited to a league format, has won more matches than anyone else, 17, but only two more than Wade’s 15. In the last five weeks they have both won two nights, but Wade has scored 15 to Claytons 14 points. They are the two form players coming into Night 13.
Their H2H record is 12-10 to Wade, in 2022 4-2 and in the 2022 PL 2-2. They met in last week’s final and it was as close as it could be with Clayton missing a match dart to win before Wade snatched it 6-5.
Both players are in good overall form. Wade has won eight of his last ten, Clayton seven. It looks like another close match is likely. Of their four matches so far, three have been over 9.5 legs.

Gerwyn Price vs. Michael Smith
I have a feeling that the crowd are going to try and play a part in this one. Price will be getting pelters from the by now well lubricated ‘fans’. It has become part of the PL tradition. The Scottish fans will never forgive Price for beating Anderson in ‘that’ Grand Slam final, and they think its great sport to try and get him beat. It is pathetic, but the PDC are never going to try and do anything about it.
The crowd might not even to have to try too hard as Price is not in great form, losing six of his last ten matches. He has won two of his last three PL matches, but I could have beaten Joe Cullen last week, and two weeks before that, Wright put in a duff performance against him.
Going Through The Motions
Michael Smith is a good sport and does not like when the crowd is being unfair on his opponent. If anything, it demotivates him. He is pretty much out of contention now, ten points off the play off places with just four nights to go. He is going through the motions, not in great form having lost six of his last ten, and just one of his last six PL matches.
Two players who are in poor form and out of contention doesn’t make for a great match. Price is the 1.67 favourite, Smith 2.50. With the crowd going to be spewing vitriol on Price, there might be a case for Smith, but I’ll be giving this a swerve.
Night 13 Premier League Darts Tip: No Bet
Michael van Gerwen vs. Joe Cullen
MVG won his second Euro Tour title of the season last weekend and his fourth ranking title of the season. He has won seven of his last ten matches and while his scoring has been very good throughout his slump, his confidence was not. Is it back?
He will say yes and there is nothing like winning titles to get him going. Van Gerwen is sitting in second place in the table and that will rankle him. Traditionally he wins the league phase and pockets the bonus. This year there is no bonus money, but he will still want to be top of the pile.
Joe Cullen is in 5th place, five points off the play offs. He can pick up 5 points tonight, but first he must beat Van Gerwen. He has lost six of his last ten matches and trails MVG 10-20 in their H2Hs. They have met three times in the PL and MVG won the first two easily, 6-1 and 6-3, but Cullen won their last match, 6-5.
Michael van Gerwen is the 1.40 favourite and given his success last weekend, he will be giving it full booms and looking to close the gap to The Ferret. MVG has not lost in Glasgow since 2015 and I expect he will be the winner here.
