Sandown Saturday Racing Tips: 1.50 Coral Charge (Group 3)
A field of ten sprinters will go to post for the Coral Charge, a Group 3 run over 5 furlongs. Sergei Prokofiev is the market leader for Ballydoyle and Ryan Moore rides. The 3yo son of Scat Daddy is talented on his day, but he ran a bitterly disappointing race at Royal Ascot. This obviously represents a big drop in class and he is a previous Group 3 winner. He is around 7/2 and that is probably a fair price.
Garrus is by top sire Acclamation and arrives here looking to complete the hat trick. It is a big step up for him though and Charles Hills’ charge could find the going tough in this company. Muthmir ran a cracker in the Dash but he is a 9yo now. He is clearly talented but he usually finds one or two too good. At the prices, Signora Cabello could be worth chancing for in form John Quinn.
This filly won the Group 2 Queen Mary last year and showed it was no fluke, following up in France in another race at that level. She found just Pretty Pollyanna too good on her penultimate run last season in the Group 1 Prix Morny. The Quinn filly just didn’t get home over 6f, so it was surprising she was campaigned at that trip on her first three runs this term. She ran respectably back at 5f in the King’s Stand and Sandown could really suit. At odds of 14/1, Signora Cabello is the each way pick.

Sandown Saturday Racing Tips: 2.25 – Coral Challenge Handicap (Class 2)
With 14 going to post and extra place specials available, this handicap is tailor made for each way thieves. It is absolutely wide open and any of three or four horses could start favourite. It is 13/2 the field and you could make a case for plenty of them. One that looks well overpriced is Rum Runner for Richard Hannon and Martin Dwyer.
This 4yo son of Havana Gold has yet to fully deliver on his undoubted potential. He has always been held in high regard by the Hannon team and the fact that he remains a colt says a lot given he is rated just 84. He is related to some classy types, including Leger 2nd Unsung Heroine and the useful Ghostmilk. Most importantly, he loves it at Sandown and he shaped like he was returning to form last time out.
Rum Runner was 8th in this last year, trying to make all and fading close home. He was only beat 5L and that effort came off 90. The Hannon inmate won his previous two starts at Sandown, over 7f, the latest one on good to firm. He is bred to get a mile and he stayed on well over 7f last time. Mubhij has since franked that form too. This race is likely his target and at odds of 22/1 he is the each way selection off 6lb lower than last season.

Sandown Saturday Racing Tips: 3.00 – Coral Distaff (Listed)
This mile Listed contest is for 3yo fillies who haven’t won a Group 1. It is a high class affair and a total of 7 will line up at the start. Encapsulation is leading the market on her first start for Andrew Balding. She chased home Pink Dogwood in a Listed heat at Navan last time (10f yld). By Zoffany, she should appreciate quick ground but this is her first try at a mile. Her win came at 9.5f and dropping back in trip is a worry.
Muchly also drops back in trip from 10f, but she is well proven at a mile. In fact, she is 2/2 over the distance, one win on good to soft and one on good to firm. The horse she beat last time over 8f, Queen Power, won a Listed heat next time out. However, the horse that finished third that day, Modern Millie, definitely looks a shade overpriced.
She was 3L behind Muchly and Queen Power, but she took a keen hold early and still beat Hidden Message. That filly is 9/2, yet Modern Millie is a 22/1 shot. Mick Channon’s charge ran way better than the result suggests at Ascot last time. Few were travelling better 2f out but she was denied a clear run at a crucial stage. If she settles early and gets a kinder passage, she could run a big race at rewarding odds.
