Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips
Due to the Dutch GP this weekend, James won’t be covering every match today. He has picked out a few potentially interesting bets, hopefully his winning streak continues. Check out James Punt’s Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips below.
Damon Heta vs. Josh Rock
What a match to start the day with. Two of the heaviest scorers in the game. Looking at the most recent stats, from the start of June, Heta averages 96.54, Rock 97.32. Rock also tops Heta in the 180s per leg stats, 35.4% compared to Heta’s 33%. However, Heta is the better on the checkouts.
Rock beat Darius Labanauskas 6-4 yesterday and it wasn’t his A game on display. He had pulled a muscle in his back and was on pain killers to allow him to play. That has to be a concern, but he still hit four 180s and averaged 93.7. That is his B game.
Close
They have played each other three times, all this season and Heta won all three, but it has been close, 6-4, 6-5 and 6-5. That shouldn’t be a surprise given they are very similar players.
Heta has won five of his last ten matches but lost all three in the recent World Series tour in Australia. He may just have been in holiday mode after a long time away from home.
Rock’s injury is enough to put me off his chances at 2.38, but hopefully he can play somewhere near his best and we get another close match with plenty of maximums. All three of their matches saw five 180s.
The bookies are wise to the 180 threat and 5.5 180s is an odds-on shot, so no value there. Total legs looks the better bet.
Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes
Danny Noppert vs. Rusty-Jake Rodriguez
This will be their fourth match and Noppert has won the previous three, two of them this year, a 6-2 win and the most recent a 6-5. Noppy is the 1.25 favourite which makes sense for a player with a 74% win rate.
Rusty-Jake beat Jeff Smith 6-2 yesterday, averaging 91.2. That is very close to his seasonal average and it is likely that he will need to play better today. He averaged 97.6 when losing their last match 6-5.
The bookies seem to have called this match right and as we have Noppert backed in the outright market, there is no need to be taking skinny odds on this match.
Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: No Bet
Ryan Searle vs. Karel Sedláček
The bank of Evil Charlie paid out again yesterday when he beat Tricole 6-4. He was poor on the doubles and should have won much more comfortably. This will be a much tougher task against the heavy scoring Searle.
Searle has lost five of his last ten matches and he is not a Euro Tour Specialist. He was inconsistent before the break, with three ton plus averages in those ten, but also four sub 90, including his last three. On the Euro Tour he has played 16 and lost 9. He usually gets through his first match but he has only won two in a row once in this season’s Euro Tour.
Is Searle worth taking on? Possibly. Some of the players looked a bit rusty yesterday and Sedlacek has the advantage of having played yesterday. He is perfectly capable of putting in a good performance and taking advantage if Searle is a bit rusty. If Searle brings his A game, then he wins, but I’ll take another chance on Evil Charlie.
Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Karel Sedlacek to win +2.5 legs @ 1.83 with Betfred
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Chris Dobey
Two heavy scorers but the difference being that Dirk has many more deep runs. He does tend to get nervous at the start of tournaments and I am never happy backing him in his opening match.
Dobey is 5-2 in the H2Hs but he looked a bit rusty yesterday when beating Ted Evetts 6-3. It was an OK performance and he may come on for it. He hasn’t won a last 32 stage match on the Euro Tour this season (0-4) and he will be aware of that.
Dirk is the 1.57 favourite, Dobey 2.60 and there is no standout value in this match. Hopefully Dirk can get into the 180s early and if so, he will be hard to beat. No bet.
Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: No Bet
Michael Smith vs. Daryl Gurney
It was vintage Superchin yesterday when he averaged 105 (a season best) and beat Nathan Rafferty 6-1. Every leg was won in 15 darts or under, a Euro Tour record. The question is, can he keep it up?
Their H2H record is 10-6 to Smith but they have not met in 2022. Smith has won six of his last ten and he played well in the World Series without reaching a final.
Smith is the 1.44 favourite, Gurney 3.10. It is a hard call. It is hard to follow up a season best performance with something similar and Daryl may need to to beat Smith, so long as Smith brings his usual game. Hopefully they both play well and we get a good match.
Saturday Afternoon Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Daryl Gurney to win +2.5 legs @ 1.67 with Betfred, Boylesports
Krzysztof Ratajski vs. Ryan Meikle
Both players are in decent form, but Ratajski is the better player. He hasn’t had a great season and has lost five of his eight last 32 matches in this year’s ET. He did reach the final of PC 22 just before the break so there were some signs of a return to form.
Ratajski is the 1.40avourite across the board and he makes little appeal at those odds. Meikle is an improving player but he isn’t at Ratajski’s level yet and will need to be a lot better than he was against Clemens, if he is to progress here. No bet.

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. William O’Connor
O’Connor beat a local qualifier 6-2 yesterday but only averaged 82 in doing so. These matches against low quality opponents often drag the averages down, but O’Connor is having a poor season and losing more than half his matches.
Dimitri van den Bergh will be playing with new darts today, but he will have been practising with them for a while, so I don’t expect any bother for him. Van den Bergh has a losing H2H record vs. O’Connor (5-6) but they haven’t met for over a year. It is hard to think that O’Connor will be able to raise his game enough to win on merit, but Dimitri makes no appeal at 1.30 to win.

Jonny Clayton vs. Dave Chisnall
A tasty match to end the session. Chisnall is a man in form, winning eight of his last ten and smashing up Daniel Larsson 6-0 yesterday. He has been scoring very heavily in recent months and Clayton will need to have his A game ready today.
The Ferret won one of the World Series events down under but his scoring has not been at his usual level in recent months. He just hasn’t quite been at his best, but that is still a high level.
Their H2H record is 8-3 to Chizzy, but it is 2-2 in 2022.
Chizzy is in good enough form to beat anyone right now. He struggles to get beyond the last 16 stage, but I’ll take him to best Clayton today.
