Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tips and Preview

It was tough going on Saturday afternoon but at least Josh Rock did the business for us. James Punt has another preview for tonight’s action. Check out his Saturday Evening European Darts Open tips below.

Luke Humphries vs. Darren Penhall

Humphries followed up his first Euro Tour title by losing his opening match last weekend. Forgivable, but he’ll want to get back to winning ways. He has won seven of his last ten and won two ranking titles in 2022.

Darren Penhall hit a ton average in his 6-0 thrashing of Luc Peters yesterday. That is 11 points above his seasonal average and his first ever Euro Tour win. He has hit three ton plus averages in his last 50 matches, so we have to expect something shy of it tonight.

Humphries is the 1.22 favourite and I suspect he will want to get back to winning ways and put in a strong performance.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 1 point Humphries to win -2.5 legs @ 1.73 with Boylesports

Nathan Aspinall vs. Karel Sedlacek

Evil Charlie is loving the Euro Tour in 2022. He reached the quarter final of ET2, got a bye into the second round of ET4, and another bye into the second round of ET5. That is £9k of very valuable ranking prize money. He has played ten Euro Tour and players championship matches in 2002 and won half of them and hit half of them with 94+ averages, so he can play at a good level.

Nathan Aspinall reached the semi-final last week without finding third gear. He has been playing very well despite carrying an injury all season. This could be a banana skin match for him if he plays like he did last week. He has beaten Sedlacek on both their previous matches, 6-0 and 6-5.

We have backed The Asp outright and that is enough for me in a match that could be anything.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: No bet

Gerwyn Price vs. Luke Woodhouse

Woodhouse pulled out a terrific performance to beat Micky Mansell 6-0 yesterday. It was a 109.98 average His seasonal average is 91.1 so it was a real outlier. He has lost six of his last ten and yesterday’s performance came out of the blue. His last two ton plus averages saw him lose and he is not an easy player to read.

Gerwyn Price hasn’t played on the Euro Tour since ET1, which he won. Since then he has been injured, tired or not bothered. He has that win, will make the finals and who can blame him for taking time out. Price isn’t in great form. Since fracturing his throwing hand his form has dropped which is no surprise. He is fit again now and with more practice, his game should be on the way back.

Price Not At Best

Price has lost six of his last ten, but he is playing most of those ten on the Premier League stage, against the elite players, but six of his last ten have seen sub 94 averages. That sort of level brings Woodhouse into the equation.

The money has been going down on Woodhouse and he is now a best priced 4.20. Their H2H record is 4-3 to Price and since 2020, 2-2. He knows he can beat Price, but this is their first stage match which is likely to help Price. However, with The Iceman not at the top of his game, he is worth taking on.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 1 point Luke Woodhouse to win @ 4.20 with Ladbrokes, Betfred

Michael van Gerwen vs. Daryl Gurney

The H2H record between these two is 25-11 to MVG. However, since Superchin beat him in the Players Championship Final in 2017 it is Gurney who leads 8-7. They have met once this season and it was Daryl who won 6-3.

It seems playing Van Gerwen brings the best (or the beast?) out in him. Superchin has won four of their last five matches and averaged 100.1 across the four.

Van Gerwen has won four ranking titles in 2022, including two Euro Tours, and his scoring is still top drawer, but his doubling at crucial moments is nowhere near what it was in his pomp. Daryl Gurney hasn’t won a title since 2019 but he has shown some decent form in 2022 with a couple of semi-finals.

Van Gerwen is the 1.29 favourite with Gurney 3.80. Superchin may not have been in his best form recently and he didn’t impress against Kevin Burness last night but put MVG in front of him and he is transformed into his best version.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 1 point Daryl Gurney to win @ 3.80 with Ladbrokes, Unibet

Peter Wright vs. Scott Williams

Wright has lost eight of his last ten matches and while most of them have been in the Premier League, he lost his last two Euro tour matches, and he has lost two matches against Scott Waites and Scott Mitchell. Can Williams make it a hattrick of defeats to Scotts? Has the Scot got a problem with Scotts, or will he get away Scot free?

Williams showed real bottle when beating Adam Gawlas 6-5 in a top class match yesterday. It was a classic and the lad has fancier pants than Snakebite and the game to go with them.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 1 point Scott Williams to win @ 4.50 with Betfair, BET365

Jonny Clayton vs. Rowby-John Rodriguez

Clayton has to be the best player in the world, for this week anyway. He has won eight of his last ten matches and averaged 101 in his two defeats.

Rodriguez beat Nico Kurz 6-4 in a modest match which could have gone either way. Both players averaged 86 and Rowby-John will need to up his game by several notches to compete.

Clayton is the 1.17 favourite and the only thing that might stop him is fatigue. He has had a day off, travelling of course, but this week’s venue is not so hard to reach.

They have met five times and Clayton has won four, but Rowby-John usually gives a good account of himself.

It’s hard to see any angles that the bookies haven’t covered here. No bet.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: No bet

Rob Cross vs. Martin Schindler

Schindler beat Ritchie Edhouse 6-2 last night. It was a very good match and very good performance. Both players averaged 97 and Edhouse hit five 180s but they just bounced off The Wall who was just not going to be stopped.

Rob Cross has been playing well and scoring well in the main but can’t get the ball over the line. Titles remain elusive but he has won seven of his last ten matches, but two defeats were soft ones with sub 90 averages.

Their H2H record is 5-2 to Cross and he is the 1.62 favourite to win, with Schindler a 2.35 shot. We are on Schindler for the title and while he could have hoped for an easier second round match, you have to beat these guys to get there. Hopefully the crowd can lift him and he progresses into the third round.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Damon Heta vs. Dave Chisnall

Another of our outright selections, will need to better than he did last week when he went out that this stage with a poor effort. Outside of that he is one of the best scorers in the game.

Dave Chisnall beat Gabriel Clemens 6-3 last night as the German Giant once again flopped on the Euro Tour on home soil. It was a business-like performance, he didn’t need for it to be much more. Chizzy has won six of his last ten matches, but his averages have been largely underwhelming.

Their H2H record is 4-1 to Heta, with the Aussie winning the last four. All of those last four have seen over 9 legs with the last being just last month.

Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.95 with Hills, Boylesports
Saturday Evening European Darts Open Tip: 0.5 point Heta to win 6-4 @ 6.50 with Boylesports, Betfair
