Saturday Evening Gibraltar Darts Trophy Tips – DS
Saturday Evening Gibraltar Darts Trophy Preview
It was a superb day for us on Friday but this afternoon was a bit of a struggle. James Punt is aiming to get back on the gravy train tonight, his Saturday Evening Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips are below.
Michael Smith vs. Josh Rock
The H2H record here is 2-0 to Smith but surely it is only a matter of time before Rock gets another big scalp. Smith will be helped by Rock’s pace of play, but that should work both ways.
Smith has lost five of his last ten. There is some inconsistency in his game, but he remains a heavy scorer. Rock has won nine of his last ten and he played well to beat Ryan Meikle 6-4 last night. He hit 4 maximums and these two could kick off on the treble 20. They hit ten between them in their first match, a players championship semi-final which Smith won 7-3. The other saw five 180s.

Luke Humphries vs. Kenny Neyens
Humphries is the overwhelming 1.09 favourite to win this and it is passed over as a betting match.

Peter Wright vs. Craig Galliano
Galliano was a nice winner for us yesterday. He wasn’t great but Super Mario was just dire, as the form suggested he might be. The local man now faces an altogether different proposition this evening.
Wright remains one of the big beasts despite his indifferent performance at the Grand Prix. This should be a matter not of who but by how much. Wright may have lost half his opening matches on the euro tour this year, but he isn’t losing this one, as odds of 1.08 suggest. It is hard to find any value in these one sided affairs.

Jonny Clayton vs. Stephen Bunting
Bunting fired in a 105 average when beating Daryl Gurney 6-3 last night and he has been hitting some big numbers recently. Can he keep it up is the question. In Euro tour 10, he averaged 103 when beating Callan Rydz 6-0 and followed it up with a 91.2 and a 3-6 loss to Nathan Aspinall.
Of his last ten matches excluding the Grand Prix, half have seen a ton plus average, so we should expect something good. His H2H record with Clayton is 5-9 and in 2022 2-2. They have had a lot of one-sided matches and in their last five best of eleven leg matches only one went beyond eight legs.
Clayton has won six of his last ten matches and continues to play well without threatening to win titles. He is the 1.50 favourite to win this, which is too short given Bunting’s recent form. At 3.00, Bunting is too tempting to pass over.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Steve Beaton
Steve Beaton got a bye into the second round which is a bonus, but his reward is a match with Van Gerwen. Their H2H record is 19-4 to Van Gerwen and Beaton has won just one of their last fourteen. He can still turn it on, like a 110 average when beating Martin Lukeman recently, but the fact is that he has won just three of his last ten matches. MVG is the 1.12 favourite for obvious reasons and this is another match with little of interest betting wise.

Gerwyn Price vs. Mensur Suljovic
Some players struggle with the slow pace of play against Suljovic, but Price isn’t one of them, and he has won their last nine in a row.
Suljovic produced a fine display when beating Keegan Brown 6-0 last night. He averaged 101 and something similar and he will give Price something to think about.
Price has won eight of his last ten matches and despite his very disappointing performance in the Grand Prix semi-final, he isn’t doing much wrong. He is the 1.33 favourite and that looks about right. If Suljovic brings his form from last night, we could get a cracker, but he is hard to call with so little darts played in 2022.

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Gabriel Clemens
Van den Bergh has won six of his last ten matches and is in decent, if not great, form. He has blown hot and cold in Europe this year, going out early or having good runs. Clemens has generally been cold on the euro tour this season, but he has shown a few signs that things are getting better for him. He has only won one of his last ten matches and despite hitting some good scores recently his ET record just isn’t good enough to back him against a decent player like Van den Bergh. No bet.

Joe Cullen vs. Ritchie Edhouse
Edhouse stumbled to a 6-4 win over the out of form John Henderson. He averaged just 87.5 and that won’t do him much good against Cullen, something of a euro tour expert. Cullen’s euro tour form has picked up since the end of the Premier League and overall he has won 7 of his 11 round two matches in 2022.
Their H2H record is 2-2 with Cullen’s two wins coming on the euro tour, 6-3 and 6-4. Something similar would be no surprise.
Cullen is the 1.50 favourite but he looks worth backing on the handicap markets.
