Saturday International Darts Open Tips
Another respectable session for James Punt last night with three nice winning tips. The action continues in Germany today with some interesting match ups. Check out James’ Saturday International Darts Open tips below.
Danny Noppert vs. Liam Maendl-Lawrence
The German youngster beat Ritchie Burnett 6-4 in a tedious match. He only averaged 81.4 but was able to bore Burnett into submission, such was the pace of his game. Noppert isn’t exactly a fast player so he is less likely to succumb to a very slow pace of play.
Noppert is the 1.11 favourite and he should have no problems here, but it is not a betting match.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Damon Heta vs. Brendan Dolan
Heta won his second-round match last weekend against Andy Boulton and followed it up with a win over Ryan Meikle. He averaged just 86.7 in that match and he subsequently lost to Danny Noppert in the quarter final. He has won six of his last ten and his win rate in 2023 is just 50%, with a seasonal average of 93.8. Heta is far from being at his best.
Brendan Dolan averaged 97.2 in his 6-3 win over Pascal Rupprecht. His 2023 win rate is an impressive 68% and his seasonal average 92.6, so he is not a long way off Heta in that department this season. He has won seven of his last ten matches but four of them saw sub 90 averages and he will need to bring something closer to his A game.
The H2H record is a surprising 4-0 to Dolan. They have not played since last November when Dolan beat Heta 7-4 in a players championship semi-final. He has also beat Heta to love twice, so Heta seems to have a problem with Dolan.

Jose de Sousa vs. Lee Evans
Evans certainly didn’t play like a man who has lost eight of his last ten matches when he beat Kim Huybrechts 6-5, averaging 99.9. He has only bettered that once this season. A flash in the pan? We shall see, but against De Sousa, he is not without a chance, especially if he can keep that form going.
The Special One will welcome getting elevated to seeded status after the withdrawal of Luke Humphries. That means he gets a minimum of £2500 which is ranking money, win or lose. He has been on the slide for a while now, but he did win four matches in a row at the recent Euro Tour qualifiers, including a 107 average. He was beaten 6-0 by Ted Evetts last week and it is hard to know what you are going to get, and that goes for both players. Definitely a no bet match.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Rob Cross vs. Steve Lennon
There was a welcome win for Lennon yesterday, beating Andy Boulton 6-4 in a match marked by very poor doubling from both players. Lennon has lost six of his last ten matches, he is low on confidence, and he knows he just got lucky yesterday.
Cross has also lost six of his last ten matches, but he showed much better form last week when he reached the semi-final of the European Darts Open. He was only narrowly beaten 6-7 by Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Their H2H record is 2-0 to Cross, but they haven’t met since 2018 and that was when Cross was in his pomp.
Lennon is a good player on his day, but those days have been few and far between. Cross may be hitting some good form and he should win, but odds of 1.33 are of no interest.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Joe Cullen vs. Alan Soutar
Soutar made things difficult for himself in his first-round match yesterday. He was strolling to a very easy win at 5-1 but kept on missing doubles and he fell over the line with a 6-4 win. He has won five of his last ten matches and is playing with no consistency. There are high 90s but mostly sub 90 averages and he is hard to fancy.
Cullen is not in good form, losing six of his last ten matches and hitting six sub 90 averages, much like Soutar, he is hard to fancy.
A match between a couple of dodge pots is never a good betting proposition. No Bet.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Dave Chisnall vs. Andrew Gilding
Goldfinger marked his return to the stage with a 6-4 win over Daryl Gurney. It was a decent match which was won by Gilding’s excellent doubling. He hit six from nine and he was very effective in not hanging around, not giving Daryl any chances, and broke his opponent’s spirit. He averaged 100 and it was a good performance.
Chizzy flopped badly last week. He had been dazzling on the pro tour leading up to the European Darts Open, smashing in huge averages, but he was as flat as a pancake in Leverkusen. He has been winning plenty of matches and won ET1 in Kiel last month. Which Dave Chisnall will we see today? Chisnall is ranked 2nd for 180s per leg over the last 12 months, but he hit just one over two matches last week. Surely that was just a blip?
Chizzy Leads H2H
Their H2H record is 7-3 to Chisnall and he has won their last five in a row, including in the final of the Belgian Darts Open last year. Gilding has become a major champion since then, something that Chisnall has not got on his extensive CV.
Chisnall is the 1.54 favourite, which is warranted given that H2H record. The odds are not great, and we haven’t really learned about how Gilding is going to react to being a major champion. Will he improve, become a more confident player, or will it just be one of those freak results?
There is one bet to make here and that is on the 180s. We got burned last week on the maximum betting but so long as Chisnall reverts to something like type, we should see quite a few here. Gilding hit three over the ten legs last night and in his last seven best of eleven leg matches, he has hit two on five occasions and three in the other two. He can make a decent contribution and hopefully Chizzy can do the rest.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 5.5 180’s @ 2.10 with Betfair
Josh Rock vs. Florian Hempel
No stats were collected for the Hempel vs. Wilson match last night, but I can imagine they were not good. It was a 6-4 win in the end for the German, but he has been in poor form and last night’s win has not ended that. He has lost seven of his last ten matches and he usually has been averaging in the mid 90s.
Josh Rock is one of the heaviest scorers in the game, averaging 96.4 in 2023 and winning seven of his last ten matches. He is becoming a regular quarter finalist in these events but has yet to get beyond that point.
Rock occasionally has a bad game but even if he does, he should still beat Hempel and if he plays near his A game, he will thrash the German.
Saturday International Darts Open Tip: 1 point Josh Rock to win -2.5 legs @ 1.80 generally available
Nathan Aspinall vs. Mario Vandenbogaerde
Super Mario makes the most of his talents and he beat Madars Razma 6-4 in a low quality match yesterday. It was just an 87 average, but his 2023 average is a decent 93.3 and he will not make things easy for Aspinall.
The Asp seems to be putting all his efforts into the Premier League and trying to win a match per week, hence he has won five of his last ten matches. He lost to Steve Beaton in his opening match in ET 1 and didn’t play in Leverkusen last week. If he has his head screwed on and isn’t already thinking about next Thursday, he can have a good run. He has averaged over the ton in five of his last ten matches and he is scoring very well, better than his win rate suggests.
Aspinall is the 1.33 favourite with Mario 3.60. The odds are a bit dismissive about the Belgian but so long as Aspinall plays to his recent standard, he should progress, but he is likely to be made to work for it.
It is hard to find any value here. Aspinall is the 1.33 favourite, Mario 3.60. The Asp is just 1.50 giving up a -1.5 leg handicap, but I’ll have a small bet on the correct score.
