Saturday Night German Darts Championship Preview

James Punt kept things ticking over with another couple of nice winners this afternoon. Check out his Saturday Night German Darts Championship tips below.

Joe Cullen vs. Arron Monk

Monk beat the struggling Florian Hempel 6-4 but he only averaged 85. He was a rarity in terms of hitting doubles yesterday, checking out at 66.6%, and that won him the match. He has won six of his last ten matches but his scoring lacks the kind of depth required here.

Joe Cullen has won six of his last ten matches and he averages five points more than Monk. Cullen is having a good season, but he will be frustrated to have so many good runs then losing no less than seven semi-finals in various tournaments, including a couple of Euro Tours.

He was a real Euro Tour expert but he hasn’t won one this year, however he has reached two major semi-finals, including the Grand Prix last weekend.

Surprising H2H

Their H2H record is surprising, very surprising. Monk leads 7-3. That said, seven of those matches were played more than 10 years ago. They played earlier this year and Cullen won that 6-4. Their last match before that was back in 2019.

Cullen has lost five of his eleven opening matches on the Euro Tour in 2023 so he is not a rock solid proposition. He is the 1.25 favourite with Monk 4.00. The odds on Cullen are too short but he should be good enough to win. No bet.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: No Bet

Dave Chisnall vs. Gabriel Clemens

Clemens beat Danny Jansen 6-3 last night but he now faces a proper test. Clemens has a terrible record in the second round of Euro Tour events having played six and lost five in 2023. It won’t have been much better in 2022.

The only second round win in 2023 was in an event not played in Germany and he is a player that seems to get no advantage from playing ‘at home’. His recent form is very poor, losing seven of his last ten.

Chisnall is a three time Euro Tour winner in 2023 and a runner up once. Four finals from twelve events is a great record. Chisnall lost in the first round at the Grand Prix and that disappointment has to have been put to bed if he is to have another big run this weekend.

His recent form is still very good, winning eight of his last ten matches and picking up his third Euro Tour title three weeks ago, followed by PC23 four days later.

Their H2H record is 4-0 to Chisnall and 2-0 on the Euro Tour. Chisnall is the 1.48 favourite but I’ll take him on the handicap.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: 1 point Dave Chisnall to win -1.5 legs @ 1.80 with SpreadEx, Livescorebet

Nathan Aspinall vs. James Wade

Wade was able to take advantage of some poor doubling by Jelle Klassen last night, winning 6-2 with a solid 94 average. That is six wins from his last ten matches.

Aspinall has lost six of his last ten matches and he is not in great form.

Their H2H record is 11-7 to Aspinall and he has won four of their last five with one draw. He is 5-1 on the Euro Tour.

Recent form suggests Wade, their H2H record says Aspinall. I say, no bet.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: No Bet

Martin Schindler vs. Ricardo Pietreczko

An all German clash and the home fans are guaranteed a home player in the final day, but which one will it be?

Pietreczko beat Micky Mansell 6-4 in a tight match with Mansell missing a chance to take the match to a deciding leg. He has won seven of his last ten matches and has cemented his place in the European Championship, so he will be feeling a little more relaxed tonight.

His Euro Tour record in 2023 is not great, losing three of his four second round matches.

Prize Money

Schindler has won six of his last ten matches and his season of prize money farming continues. He doesn’t win things, but he banks nice cheques.

His normal pattern in recent Euro Tours is to win his second round match and then get stuffed in the third round. Overall, in 2023 he has played twelve second round matches and won eight, including six of his last seven.

Their H2H record is 1-1. Schindler is a heavier scorer but Pietreczko a better finisher. Schindler is the 1.67 favourite but the money is going down on Pietreczko who is into 2.30. I can’t make a strong case for either and it is a no bet match.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: No Bet

Michael van Gerwen vs. Steve Lennon

Lennon is fighting to make sure he keeps his tour card and even last night’s win has moved him further into the safety zone. He needs to win the tournament to make the European Championship but that is unlikely as he is will probably be on his way home after this.

His H2H record with MVG is 0-10. They have met at this stage of a Euro Tour event three times and MVG won them 6-5, 6-0 and 6-2. He also beat Lennon 8-5 in a Euro Tour final in 2018.

MVG is the 1.17 favourite and Lennon the 6.00 outsider. There have been plenty of shocks this weekend, I doubt this will be another. No bet.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: No Bet

Peter Wright vs. Chris Dobey

Dobey has won seven of his last ten matches but only just got past Lee Evans with a 6-5 win last night. However, he played well enough, especially on the doubles, checking out at 66.6%.

Wright has won six of his last ten matches and he is starting to hit some big numbers and do it more regularly.

Their H2H record is 4-4 but Dobey has won their last three. Dobey is the 1.73 favourite with Wright the 2.23 outsider.

It is a hard one to call, Wright is on the comeback trail and Wright is a top class operator when he gets his A game going. Dobey is playing as well as he ever has done and playing with more confidence.

Hopefully both players can give a good account of themselves and we get a good, close match.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Hills, Ladbrokes, Boylesports

Luke Humphries vs. Boris Krčmar

Boris was the beneficiary of some horrible doubling, or lack of, from Ryan Joyce in yesterday’s opening match. The Croatian was lucky to win but he took the many chances given. He is up against a Euro Tour specialist and the new World Grand Prix champion.

Krcmar has played Humphries four times and he has won two of them. Both his wins came in the Players Championship but Humphries won their last match, which was on the Euro Tour, 6-3 last year.

Humphries is the 1.20 favourite and Krcmar 5.00. After the bloodbath for the seeds this afternoon, Humphries should be avoided at such short odds, but he should win. No bet.

Saturday Night German Darts Championship Tip: No Bet

Michael Smith vs. Alan Soutar

Sod’s Law demanded that Soutar suddenly found his A game when I’d tipped him to lose. He averaged just 91 in the end but he had nine 140+ plus throws and dominated the match to beat Sedlacek 6-1.

That makes it four wins from his last ten matches and his form remains poor. Soutar needs to win this to provisionally qualify for the World Championship. He is still under a bit of pressure.

Smith has won seven of his last ten and starting to play nearer his best since switching his darts manufacturer. There is still the odd sub 90 average in his game and he is not yet at his best, but he is much closer.

Smith Dominant H2H

Their H2H record is an emphatic 5-0 to Smith, all Players Championship matches and their last was just five weeks ago and Smith required a deciding leg to win it.

Smith is the 1.25 favourite, Soutar 4.00 and being backed, no doubt on the back of so many seeds falling this afternoon. They can’t all keep losing and Soutar hasn’t shown enough to suggest a surprise is on the cards. There isn’t any value in the odds. No bet.
