Saturday Night International Darts Open Tips
It was tough going for James Punt this afternoon. He is back for more punishment tonight, check out his Saturday Night International Darts Open tips below.
Jonny Clayton vs. Brian Raman
Fresh from winning his first Premier League night of the year, The Ferret will be trying to follow that up with a good run this weekend. He has won five of his last ten matches and has not been pulling up any trees, but he did beat three world champions on Thursday night. Raman should be a lot easier, surely?
Raman averaged 91.8 in his 6-2 win over Ryan Meikle who reverted to type when I was not betting on the match. Raman has a win rate of just 41% and a 2023 seasonal average of 88.4. He has lost seven of his last ten matches and is there for the taking.
Clayton is the 1.22 favourite but I’ll take him to cover a -2.5 leg handicap.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point Jonny Clayton to win -2.5 legs @ 1.83 with Ladbrokes
Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Niko Springer
Dimitri has been playing some good stuff with the exception of his 3-6 loss to Michael Smith on Thursday. He averaged just 87 in that one thanks to poor doubling. His last three defeats have all seen checkout rates of under 30% and it is his Achilles Heel. If he struggles on the outer ring again, Springer is good enough to take advantage.
Niko looked a proper prospect when beating Scott Williams 6-4. It was a very good match, Williams averaging 97, Springer 99, and the German is an impressive player. He has won eight of his last ten matches and while the Euro Tour is a big step up in class, he has an A game to beat anyone.
Van den Bergh is the 1.50 favourite with Springer 3.00.

Peter Wright vs. Jose Justicia
Wright has lost seven of his last ten matches and he is impossible to back at odds of 1.25. His wife had to have another operation and then his father in law suffered a stroke. All that has knocked him out of his stride.
He was sporting the full Snakebite look on Thursday, so his off oche issues may be behind him, but his game has been so flat for so long that he might take a bit of warming up. He started brightly against Price on Thursday, but his game fell apart under pressure.
Justicia beat Ian White 6-4 in a poor match with both players averaging under 86. White was very poor on the doubles and Justicia will be very lucky to get even an out of form Wright playing like that against him.
Journeyman
The Spaniard is an experienced journeyman pro, and he does have his moments. He beat Gerwyn Price last month and he does have a reasonable A game, but it is rare enough to be on the extinction watch list.
He has lost six of his last ten matches and while opposing Peter Wright has been profitable lately, maybe Justicia is a step too far? Their H2H record is 2-1 to Wright and it was the Spaniard who won their last one, 6-3 just a year ago. I can’t help it, and I have to have something on the Spaniard, just in case Wright is still off his game.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: 0.5 point Jose Justicia to win @ 4.33 with SpreadEx
Michael van Gerwen vs. Matt Campbell
Campbell was playing with someone else’s darts yesterday after his luggage went missing enroute to Germany. He took advantage of some poor doubling by Keegan Brown to win 6-4. That made it eight wins from ten for the Canadian and he has hit some big numbers, including a 102 average and a couple of high 90s. His seasonal average is just 90.3, so we shouldn’t expect too much, especially if he still doesn’t have his own darts yet.
MVG has won six of his last ten matches. Three defeats were to Gerwyn Price and Campbell is not in that league. MVG only averaged 89.1 on Thursday night’s 5-6 loss to Jonny Clayton. He was dreadful and I am not sure how he manged five legs.
If MVG repeats his form of Thursday, Campbell can take advantage, but it looked like he was just cold and out of sorts. MVG is the 1.18 favourite and Campbell 5.00. No bet.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Gerwyn Price vs. Ross Smith
This should be a cracker. Price is our number 1 outright selection, but this is a tough opener. Smith is 4-2 up against Price and he is in great form, winning eight of his last ten matches. He only averaged 90.5 in his 6-3 win over the Finnish qualifier last night thanks to some poor doubling. He did hit five maximums and that is where he is dangerous.
Price is playing great stuff right now, winning nine of his last ten and he averaged 99 in his sole defeat, a 4-6 to Clayton on Thursday. It will take a very good performance to beat him.
Ross Smith is ranked 3rd for 180s per leg, Price 14th and hopefully we get a close, heavy scoring match. They haven’t met since 2021 but Smith has won their last three meetings, all requiring ten legs or more. Their last three matches produced 22 maximums across 33 legs, the last 12 from 10 legs.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 6.5 180s @ 2.10 with Boylesports
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Gabriel Clemens
Last week’s runner up and two-time Players Championship winner in 2023, Dirk van Duijvenbode is the 1.53 favourite to win, Clemens 2.63. The big German was very relieved to finally win a Euro Tour match in 2023 and it went to his third Euro Tour deciding leg in a row, but he was the winner this time.
Van Duijvenbode has won seven of his last ten matches, Clemens five. The German has played some good stuff and some not so good. They have only played each other once and that was in a Players Championship final last year and Dirk won 8-0.
Clemens is a dangerous opponent and we have to wait and see how he reacts to having missed match darts to win last weekend. We have backed Dirk outright and that is enough interest for me. No bet.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Raymond van Barneveld vs. Martin Schindler
Barney beat Stephen Burton 6-3 last night. It was a straightforward win, no drama, no fuss, nothing outstanding, but a nice nerve settler. He has a 4-2 H2H record over Schindler but the German won their last match 6-3 just a couple of weeks ago. He has lost all three of his matches since then and has won five of his last ten.
I expect this to be a fairly competitive affair. Barney is playing steady and won’t roll over. Schindler’s form is inconsistent, and he will need to play better than in his last three matches if he is to repeat that recent win over Barney.
Saturday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.95 with Betfred
Michael Smith vs. Mike de Decker
De Decker let Callan Rydz beat himself yesterday and won 6-3 despite averaging just 90. He hit three 180s and he is one of the bigger 180 hitters in the game, ranked 6th for 180s per leg over the last three months. Smith is a fraction better, ranked 4th.
Their H2H record is 1-1 but it’s pretty old form with the two matches played in 2021 and 2017.
Smith is the 1.30 favourite, De Decker 4.00. I expect Smith to win but the odds are of little interest. The 180 betting is more tempting. Two big maximum hitters should produce plenty, but their previous two matches have not been close, 6-3 and 6-1, and another uncompetitive match means fewer legs to rack up the maximums. Over 5.5 180s is just 1.67 and that is too short. No bet.
