Saturday Sandown Racing Tips For ITV4 Live Races

Tips for solario stakes day At Sandown

Mustajeer gave us plenty to cheer about last week at York. We had to wait until the last race for a winner, but at 18/1 it was worth waiting for. He was given an excellent ride by Colin Keane and his new owners should have plenty of fun with him Down Under. The ITV4 cameras will be at Sandown on Saturday and they will be showing 4 races live. Dave Stevos has previewed them all, check out his Sandown Saturday racing tips below…

Saturday Sandown Racing Tips: 1.55 Betway Handicap (Class 3)

This tricky little 5f handicap sees 12 speedy sprinters go to post. It looks wide open and from a handicapping perspective, Spoof looks worth an each way punt. His form figures this year don’t look great at first glance. However, they are a bit deceptive as he ran a couple of decent races in defeat earlier this term. He is now rated 90 having started the season off a mark of 98.

He is now 5lb below the mark he last won off at Chester lin May last year and his first two runs this year were solid. His seasonal return behind Stake Aclaim when 4th wasn’t too bad, while he was far from disgraced in a hot contest at York next time off 97. Slow starts cost him the last twice, so he will obviously need to break better today. If he does, this former course and distance winner is a very well handicapped horse. At odds of 25/1 he is worth a small interest each way.

Sandown Preview Saturday: 2.25 –Handicap (Class 2)

Nine will go to post for this 10f handicap and the progressive 3yo Country is a very warm order. William Haggas has kept the faith with Liam Jones who won on this fella at the first attempt 3 weeks ago at Redcar. That was Country’s handicap debut off 88 and he was completing a hat trick after two Novice wins. The ground will suit this son of Dubawi and off a feather weight he will be very popular with punters.

Migration is another 3yo that could be dangerous, but at bigger odds course specialist My Boy Sepoy could go well. Trained by Stuart Williams, this 4yo son of Sepoy boasts a 100% record over this course and distance. He scored off 78 here last time and previously won off 75 (gd/fm and gd). My Boy Sepoy gave a lot of weight (17lbs) to the runner up last time out and it was a better run than the bare form looks on paper. He is upped in class here but he loves the track and trip and the ground is fine too. At 20/1 he could give each way backers a good run for their money.

Saturday Sandown Racing Tips: 3.00 – Atalanta Stakes (Group 3)

The Group 3 Atalanta Stakes is the first of two pattern races at Sandown on Saturday. This is an 8f race for fillies and mares and with black type up for grabs, they all should be trying. Jubiloso looks the obvious one for Moore and Stoute after an unlucky 3rd in a G3 at Goodwood last time. Her previous Coronation Stakes G1 (8f gd) 3rd when just a length behind Hermosa represents serious form. By top sire Shamardal and out of a dual listed winning half sister to Frankel, Jubiloso is bred to be good and she should get her first Group level win on Saturday afternoon.

She is a very skinny price though and while she should win, Solar Gold is more tempting from an each way perspective. On a line through Billesdon Brook she has very little to find with Jubiloso and she never got into it at Goodwood last time. I am always prepared to forgive a below par run at that track, and this filly is better judged on her first three runs of the season. The step back up to a mile is going to suit this daughter of Sea The Stars, as will the quick ground. If Jubiloso doesn’t fire, Solar Gold could pick up the pieces and at 18/1 she looks a solid each way bet.

Sandown Racing Preview: 3.35 – Solario Stakes (Group 2)

A select field of seven colts will go to post in this year’s Solario Stakes and the bookies have installed Positive as the 6/4 favourite. He chased home Pinatubo last time in a Group 2 at Goodwood, finishing 5L behind arguably the best 2yo we have seen this season. He had Lope Y Fernandez a further 5L back in 3rd. That form was franked at the Curragh on Friday.

Al Suhail is next best in the betting for Pinatubo’s trainer Charlie Appleby. He hosed up in a 4 runner Yarmouth novice last time after a good 2nd at Newmarket on debut. By Dubawi and a half-brother to Telecaster, he is certainly bred in the purple. William Buick rides and it will be fascinating to see how he gets on upped in class. The bookies aren’t taking any chances though and he is short enough at 9/4.

An interesting one at a huge price is Hector Loza. He has raced exclusively on the all-weather so far, racking up wins over 6f and 7f at Chelmsford and Lingfield. His debut 3rd (beat 0.5L) looks rock solid and he is bred to be effective on grass. He is by Kodiac and out of a Shamardal dam from the family of Derby winner Sir Percy. He should be staying on strongly in the closing stages up the Sandown hill and at odds of 40/1, Hector Loza could surprise with a big run for Simon Dow, a very shrewd operator.

SANDOWN TIPS SATURDAY: HECTOR LOZA  E/W @ 40/1
