Sunday 2023 Players Championship Finals Tips
James Punt just keeps firing in winner after winner. He was on target with five of his six bets in last night’s session, including a lovely correct score bet on Humphries vs Searle at 8.00. Can he keep up the good work on the last day of the tournament? We certainly hope so, check out his Sunday 2023 Players Championship tips below.
Stephen Bunting vs. Michael van Gerwen
We saw two very different MVGs yesterday. The record breaker, averaging 118.5 when beating Ross Smith 6-1 and the B spec MVG who laboured to a 10-6 win over the sloth like Marion Vandenbogaerde. The lack of pace in the game didn’t help and he was just going through the motions.
Bunting beat Huybrechts 10-8 in a match not marked by great darts but it was a good scrap. What we did see was Bunting getting very tight at the business end. He was thinking about it, about not just that match, but the title. He was struggling in that final leg, taking 20 darts to get it over the line. That was against Kim Huybrechts who was averaging just 88.5. This is likely to be very much harder.
MVG Dominant H2H
Their H2H record is a very convincing 19-3 to MVG. The one glimmer of hope for Bunting is that he did win their last match, a euro tour second round match in February. This is a very different arena. A big TV quarter final.
MVG has played nine Players Championship finals quarter finals and won eight. Bunting has played two and lost two. He has played twelve major ranked quarter finals and won just five. They have played eight matches on TV and MVG won the lot.
Van Gerwen is the 1.40 favourite to win, Bunting 3.33. I wouldn’t argue with those odds. MVG may not be the biggest beast in the jungle anymore but he has Bunting’s number. They have played two best of 19 leg matches and MVG won both, 10-1 and 10-4.
I would expect a closer match today, Bunting is in good form, but it is very likely that MVG will just put too much pressure on Bunting, and Bunting will put too much pressure on himself. Bunting’s last quarter final here was a 3-10 loss to Gerwyn Price in 2019, the other a 7-10 loss to Danny Noppert in 2018 and he averaged 100 in both.
Sunday 2023 Players Championship Tip: 1 point Michael van Gerwen to win -2.5 legs @ 1.91 with Unibet
Luke Woodhouse vs. Gabriel Clemens
I am liking the way Clemens is playing this weekend. He is playing his A game and looks in great form.
Woodhouse will have been delighted that Dave Chisnall didn’t turn up for their 3rd round match. It was bound to happen at some point but Woodhouse was able to average 95 and win 10-8.
This is his first major quarter final and it does reflect that he is having his best ever season. Can he live with a Clemens playing his A game?
Their H2H record is 6-3 to Woodhouse and he has won their last three. He will take a lot of confidence from that, but it is how he copes with the occasion which will decide the outcome.
Clemens has never won a title of any sort and eventually he will shit himself, but he has played more big matches than Woodhouse. Not a lot, but he did win the quarter final at the World Championships and they don’t come much bigger than that.
Clemens is the 1.73 favourite despite that H2H record and I agree that he looks the better player right now. If he can put pressure on Woodhouse, he can get him flustered and the job is done.

James Wade vs. Luke Humphries
Wade said that he felt his performance against Van den Bergh was one of his worst. It was a 91 average with 34.5% on the doubles and it must be said that both his matches yesterday were quite poor.
Humphries continues on his path to World Domination. He beat Searle 10-7 for the second time in a week. It was a 103.7 average and that’s just what he does.
Humphries is 9-5 against Wade and they met last weekend in the Grand Slam semi-final which Humphries won 16-10. There is no reason to think that Wade can reverse that. Humphries prefers playing in the evening, which is a glimmer of hope for Wade, but Humphries averaged 107 in his afternoon match yesterday.
Wade did beat Humphries in the European Championship quarter final, so this is not a done deal, but If Humphries played close to his A game, he wins.
Humphries is the 1.30 favourite and it is hard to see any value options for this match. No bet.
Sunday 2023 Players Championship Tip: No bet
Damon Heta vs. Ryan Joyce
This is a bit of a head scratcher. I can’t back Heta in anything with the word final in it. He starts to get very tight at the business end which is a shame as his game should be winning him more titles. We have him to win the quarter, so we are invested in this match already.
Ryan Joyce has been a nice cash generator this weekend. Underrated when in form, and he will be a dangerous opponent. Joyce has a good record vs. Heta, winning two of their three races.
Heta is the 1.62 favourite and Joyce 2.50. I am happy to hedge with a bet on Joyce.
