Sunday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tips

James Punt bounced back with a couple of tasty winners on Sunday afternoon. Clemens and De Sousa both won, advised at 3.20 and 1.80 respectively. His over 9.5 legs bet for Noppert v Cullen also landed, as did his Adrian Lewis -1.5 legs wager. Let’s hope for more of the same on Finals Night. His Sunday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips can be viewed below.

Andrew Gilding vs. Martin Schindler

Gilding wasn’t at his best when beating Zonneveld 6-3. We needed four legs from Zonneveld, but he missed darts to make it 4-4 and Gilding stole the leg and won 6-3, averaging 93 after a bit of a slow start. He has now won six of his last ten matches, but importantly, he has booked his place in the finals, so he can relax a bit here.

Schindler beat Rodriguez 6-3 and he was very impressive until he was leading comfortably and he went into neutral, finishing with a 94 average. Rodriguez was disappointing and threw in the towel too easily. Schindler has shown some great form in 2022, is this his chance to finally land a title, or will he come up short again?

Their H2H record is 3-0 to Gilding and the last two have gone to a deciding leg. More of the same?

Jonny Clayton vs. Gabriel Clemens

Clayton is 9-2 against Clemens and the German’s last win was nearly two years ago. The Ferret is a much improved animal since then and he showed us his A game when beating our final ante post selection, Dirk van Duijvenbode, 6-4 today with both players averaging over 105. It just isn’t my week.

If Clayton keeps it up, and he is a player who is consistent, he can give Clemens a bit of a kicking. He looks to be in the mood, enjoying the challenge and you just feel that if Clemens brings his A game, Clayton will just raise his to a higher level. He has more gears than the German.

First ET Quarter Final

Clemens has done his job by getting this far, his first ever euro tour quarter final. He got a leg up by getting a bye into the second round and while he was very good against Meikle he was just OK vs Cross, who it must be said was rubbish, averaging 86.

Clayton is the 1.25 favourite which is hard to argue with, but it isn’t my idea of a bet. They have met twice on the euro tour with Clayton winning 6-1 and 6-2 albeit a while ago, and in their only four best of 11 leg matches, Clayton has won two 6-2.

Jose de Sousa vs. Dave Chisnall

The De Sousa vs. Searle match was a feast for the eyes. Searle found his mojo and the two of them were killing the treble 20 with 4 180s each. Searle was 100% on the doubles but he lost 6-4. De Sousa had three 12 dart legs and while it got a bit scrappy at the end, his A game was on display for most of the match.

Chizzy beat his mate Nathan Aspinall in what was a bit of an exhibition match at times, but it was a very poor display from both players on the outer ring. Yes, Chizzy hit five 180s but he missed 21 doubles.

Business End

We are now in the business end of the event, and this is when Chisnall traditionally goes off the boil. He could have been, should have been beaten by Aspinall and he wasn’t playing as well as De Sousa has been this weekend.

Their H2H record is 1-1 and Chizzy won their only match this year, a euro tour match in May, 6-3. De Sousa was out of form back then and I expect a different result tonight.

Both players are well known 180 hitters and so far Chizzy has hit them at 0.44 per leg and De Sousa 0.43. If they get close to that, we should see an abundance of maximums, so long as it is not an overly short match.

Danny Noppert vs. Adrian Lewis

Noppert got off to a slow start against Joe Cullen, going 0-3 and down and out but he hit the gas and won 6-4 in a match where both averaged over the ton. It was good darts and underlines how much Noppert has improved in 2022.

Lewis won at a canter against Huybrechts who wasn’t going to get lucky twice in a row. Lewis will have to up his game, but we can’t judge him on that match as he only did what he needed to do. He has won both his matches 6-1 so far and hasn’t been tested.

Their H2H record 3-2 to Noppert and he has won their last three, including two euro tour matches.

Noppert deserves to be favourite, but he gets tight in the latter stages while Lewis is a bit more of an unknown at this stage in his career. He picked up a floor title a couple of months ago, so he can still do it, and this is a bit of a puzzle.

Noppert is the 1.53 favourite which is too short for me. I’ll happily sit this one out.

As for the outright winner? The Ferret looks in ominous form but 2.62 is not enough.
