Sunday Evening Grand Slam of Darts Tips by James Punt
Sunday Evening Grand Slam Of Darts Preview
It was a tough afternoon for us at the Grand Slam Of Darts but at least we ended up with one winner. James Punt is back in action this evening and he is hoping to roar back to form. Check out James’ Sunday Evening Grand Slam of Darts preview and tips below.
Luke Humphries vs. Matt Campbell
Humphries got Mensured last night. He played well with a 101 average but lost 3-5. He has a chance of redemption tonight against a disappointing Matt Campbell. The Ginga Ninja was steamrolled by De Sousa but that what happens when a 83.5 average meets an elite player.
Campbell can do a lot better than that but in Humphries he faces another heavy hitter, or potentially heavy hitter. Humphries brought his A game against Suljovic and that hasn’t been seen too often lately.
Humphries is the 1.33 favourite, Campbell 3.60. It is hard to see any value here and the handicaps are a bit tight. No bet.
Raymond van Barneveld vs. Joe Davis
Davis is going through the painful motions here. He is suffering with tennis elbow, hasn’t thrown for weeks but couldn’t pass over the £4000 for turning up. He averaged 67 but did win a leg against Anderson, just to piss off the 5-0 punters.
Barney had the crowd in his pocket last night but still lost 4-5 to Michael Smith. He played like he has all year, quite well and a repeat will see him clean up. Anderson’s doubling was poor, and Barney can be a bit more ruthless. Anderson averaged 82 last night, Barney can do better than that and he knows that leg difference could be the deciding factor in the group.
Sunday Evening Grand Slam of Darts Tip: 1 point Van Barneveld to win 5-0 @ 3.25 with Boylesports
John Henderson vs. Lisa Aston
Lisa Ashton got the full MVG experience last night. He was in beast mode and there was no accommodation for playing a woman.
John Henderson was also whitewashed, a thrashing at the hands of Joe Cullen. This a real bottom of the table clash and there is money at stake as the player finishing third picks up an extra £3500.
Ashton and Henderson both averaged 87 in defeat. That is a couple of points higher than Ashton’s 12 month average but below Henderson’s 91.5.
These two have met twice before, both last year and it is one win each. Henderson has now lost seven on the spin and is lacking confidence but he will not get a better chance to end that run.
Ashton will be giving it her best shot and if she could get an early break, Hendo’s lack of confidence can be exploited.
The oddsmakers have Henderson as the 1.44 favourite. It has to be closer than that. Henderson favourite yes, but how can he be that short given his form?
It is just about worth having a bet on Ashton.

Mike de Decker vs. Fallon Sherrock
Sherrock is beginning to find out that life can be tough on the big stage. She played alright but it was a 1-5 defeat to Peter Wright. Mike de Decker also lost 1-5, very much second best to Clemens but he averaged 94 and his throw looked solid.
De Decker is the 1.57 favourite but he will have to play Sherrock and the crowd. He has the game to win but the odds are a bit thin given the environment. No bet.
Jose de Sousa vs. Mensur Suljovic
De Sousa didn’t have to do much to beat Campbell last night, a nice cruise to a 5-1 win. Suljovic had to work hard to beat Humphries and he came up with the goods, winning 5-3 and hitting a tone average.
Their H2H record is 3-1 to Suljovic including two this year and a 6-3 win just last week. That is as fresh form as you can get.
The bookmakers have De Sousa as the 1.57 favourite which is strange given their H2H record. Mensur may be coming back after a long lay off but there are signs that he is finding some good form. the value looks to lie with Suljovic.
Sunday Evening Grand Slam of Darts Tip: 1 point Mensur Suljovic to win @ 2.63 with Betvictor
Gary Anderson vs. Michael Smith
Anderson is 13-8 in the H2Hs and has won four of their last five. He was dreadful against Davis last night but it wasn’t really a darts match with Davis struggling with injury. However, Anderson does need to improve his finishing.
Smith averaged a ton when beating Barney 5-4. Barney couldn’t get Smith to drop his head at any point and that will be Anderson’s best hope.
Michael Smith is the 1.73 favourite, a bit short given their H2H form but it is hard to have much faith in Anderson after last night. If you can ignore that, then his odds are 2.20.
Two dodgy players in terms of turning it on or throwing in a duff one make this an unattractive tie. Smith does hit more 180’s and he looks better value in that market. He hit three to Anderson’s two last night and at odds against I’ll take it.
Sunday Evening Grand Slam of Darts Tip: 1 point Smith to hit the most 180’s @ 2.25 with Betfred, Betfair
Peter Wright vs. Gabriel Clemens
It was a handy 5-1 win for Wright against Sherrock last night but he will have more coming back at him. Clemens also won 5-1 and also averaged 96 just as Wright did.
Wright hasn’t been at his best recently and he was decent last night, hit four maximums and was in total control, keeping the crowd quiet and the job done.
Their H2H record is 3-2 to Clemens, which is a surprise, but they have not played this year. Wright hitting four maximums last night is a sign that he could just have too much for the German tonight. No bet
Michael van Gerwen vs. Joe Cullen
The battle for the group leadership. MVG averaged 105 when white washing Lisa Ashton last night, Cullen 99 when white washing John Henderson. These two have had some great matches. MVG leads 17-8 but Cullen is 2-1 up in 2021, including a 7-4 win just last week.
MVG is the 1.44 favourite despite that fresh form of last week. Cullen likes playing MVG and wants revenge for his group stage defeat last
