Sunday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips
James fired in a lovely 3.50 winner last night, Simon Whitlock to beat MVG. He is back with one last preview for finals night, Get his Sunday evening Hungarian Darts Trophy tips below.
Rusty-Jake Rodriguez vs. Joe Cullen
Cullen has coasted to his quarter final with two 6-4 wins with 90 averages. He is going to have find a bit more soon, maybe as soon as this match.
Rusty-Jake has pouted his way to the semi-final and played some good stuff. He destroyed Danny Noppert 6-1, averaging 99 in the process. He was a bit ordinary when beating Razma 6-4 this afternoon, but the job was done.
They have never met before, so no H2H form to go on. Cullen is a former Euro Tour winner while Rusty-Jake is just trying to establish himself at senior level. He is a bit cocky so unlikely to freeze just yet. Cullen will be sniffing an opportunity to go deep but he hasn’t won three matches in a row since July. He is also the only one of the World Series players still in the tournament, so maybe fatigue is an issue.
It’s worth taking a chance on the Austrian.

Dave Chisnall vs. Josh Rock
I am regretting not backing Rock ante post now. Our actual selection, Dirk van Duijvenbode, missed six match darts to beat Rock and it is the Northern Irishman who makes it to his second euro tour quarter final.
Dave Chisnall, who has been winning plenty of matches in 2022, makes his first quarter final of the season, having fallen at the last sixteen stage so often this year. He has now won nine of his last ten matches and he hasn’t found top gear yet.
Twitchy Bum Time
We are now in a quarter final. Dave’s arse will start to get twitchy, and he is up against the hottest up and coming player in the world. How Rocky will react to playing his second quarter final is harder to say. He has only played one and he lost that 1-6 to Dimitri van den Bergh. He played OK, but it was his worst performance of the tournament.
That was back in May and he has improved, even in that short space of time. He will be a bit better prepared this time. He will also know that he has played Chisnall twice this year and thrashed him both times, 6-1 and 6-2.
Rock Shock Is On
Rock is the 2.00 marginal outsider with Ladbrokes, 1.91 each at Betfred. Not a lot of value there. It has been a tournament for the outsiders so far. There only three seeded players left in it. At what point do the youngsters get tight? Or is this one of those very rare events where we get a true shock result. Rock beating Chizzy would not be a shock result, he has done it twice an in style. Chizzy is as likely to get tight as Rock and I’ll take the youngster from Norn Iron to win and do so in style.
Sunday evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Josh Rock to win -1.5 legs @ 2.60 with Ladbrokes
Jose De Sousa vs. William O’Connor
O’Connor beating Michael Smith this afternoon was perhaps the biggest surprise of the tournament. The Magpie wasn’t even on his own radar coming into the event and here he is in a winnable quarter final.
Jose de Sousa is showing better form of late, but his confidence will still be fragile. He scored well vs. Barney but struggled to beat a player averaging nearly 10 points less. He dropped 4 legs against De Zwann who was averaging 84.
O’Connor averaged 98.8 when beating Smith and a repeat of that, or something close and De Sousa will be in bother. These two have met twice before with De Sousa winning both, including a 6-3 this at the start of this year.
De Sousa is the 1.50 favourite and O’Connor 2.62. I would want 3.00 before backing O’Connor.
Sunday evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: No Bet
Nathan Aspinall vs. Ryan Meikle
At least we have one man standing on Sunday night. The Asp is now the favourite to win the tournament and he has got a very decent chance. Meikle has rained on my parade before, so he can’t be dismissed, but he nearly blew a 5-2 lead against Simon Whitlock, falling over the line to win 6-5.
Aspinall now has a seasonal win rate of 75% and he has won 16 of his last 18 matches. He was runner up to Keegan Brown in PC 23 last month having won PC23 the day before. He is having good runs in almost everything he plays in, so getting this far is not a surprise. The Asp just needs to start converting more good runs into titles.
This will be their fifth meeting and Aspinall has won three of the previous four. This will be the biggest match of Meikle’s career and there were signs of tightness against Whitlock. Hopefully The Asp can move through to the semi-final and then who knows. No bet for me.
That is it for this week, but there is more Euro Tour action coming next weekend with the German Darts Open.
