Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy Preview

James landed two winners in a row with his last two tips last night, his Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips are below.

Luke Humphries vs. Wesley Plaisier

Big Wes is being offered up at quite dismissive odds here. Yes, he has no tour card but he is playing well and has a very decent ET record this season, played 12 won 8. This weekend he has beaten Jeff Smith 6-0 and a very in form Dave Chisnall 6-3, even with Chizzy averaging 100. Yet he is being offered at 3.95.

Humphries is a four time ET title winner and the deserved favourite, but only 1.30. He beat Kenny Neyens 6-3 yesterday, averaged 99 and looked in good nick after his short break on parental duties.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Wesley Plaisier to win @ 3.95 with Unibet

Peter Wright vs. Ryan Searle

Wright leads the H2H stats 8-3 but Searle won their only 2022 match 7-5 back in February. He is in good form winning seven of his last ten matches. Searle has lost seven of his last ten and has lost five of his six ET last 16 matches.

Searle did play well when beating William O’Connor 6-3 yesterday but he has found winning hard recently. Wright may not be quite at his best right now but given Searle’s struggles in Europe, Snakebite is the call on the handicap market.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Peter Wright to win -1.5 legs @ 1.85 with Ladbrokes

Josh Rock vs. Jonny Clayton

Rock got his first win over Michael Smith with a 6-3 result last night. It was a decent performance but not his best. There is more in the tank. He has won nine of his last ten matches and while many of those were at junior level, he won them in style. He has not faced Clayton before.

The Ferret beat Stephen Bunting 6-2 last night and it was another poor display by The Bullet. A 105 average when beating Daryl Gurney followed up with an 89 against Clayton. The Welshman has won seven of his last ten matches, but he isn’t at his best. He doesn’t need to be to win matches with an opponent averaging 89.

This will be tougher. Rock still lacks experience but he is picking it up at a rapid rate and another ET final day is no surprise. Clayton is the 1.57 favourite and Rock 2.60. The odds are not massively wrong, but Rock is good enough to beat anyone and he gets the nod.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Josh Rock to win @ 2.60 with Ladbrokes

Rob Cross vs. Ryan Joyce

Cross is 4-2 in their previous matches. He has won six of his last ten and isn’t in the same sort of form he was before the summer break. He had an easy win over Rusty-Jake Rodriguez as the Austrian was all over the place.

Joyce was indeed relentless when beating our man Danny Noppert 6-5. It was another good performance on the doubles and it is that skill which makes him such a dangerous opponent. He may not be the heaviest of scorers, but he takes his chances well. He is in decent form, winning seven of his last ten matches and remains underrated.

Cross is the 1.62 favourite, Joyce 2.50 and Joyce has to be the call.

Michael Van Gerwen vs. Jose de Sousa

MVG won the match of the day yesterday, beating Steve Beaton 6-3 with both players hitting ton plus averages. Van Gerwen has now won six in a row and he looks in ominously good form.

De Sousa beat Rowby-John Rodriguez 6-3 in a very forgettable match. De Sousa has won six of his last ten matches but there is little in the way of consistency about him. At his best he has the game to beat MVG but their H2H record is 7-3 to Van Gerwen. De Sousa beat Van Gerwen in an ET final in 2020, but his standard has slipped since then.

MVG is the 1.40 favourite, De Sousa 3.10. I’ll take MVG to continue his winning run and cover the handicap.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point MVG to win -1.5 legs @ 1.75 with BET365

Nathan Aspinall vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode

The Asp produced a comeback that would have made Lazarus blush when beating Vincent van der Voort 6-5 yesterday. 0-5 down, he reeled off six straight legs to steal the match. He was very poor in the first five legs, but woke up when it all looked to be over and he played well in the second part of a strange match. He will need to be on it from the start today. Aspinall has won six of his last ten matches and leads Dirk 5-3 in the H2Hs.

Dirk van Duijvenbode beat Jason Lowe 6-5 and he made hard work of it. Lowe was no better than OK but he was allowed to come back from 2-5 down to take it to a decider. Dirk sort of fell over the line and definitely dodged a bullet.

The Aubergenius is the 1.91 favourite, Aspinall 2.00. They are very close in terms of scoring ability, both are in similar form, neither was convincing yesterday and this could be a match to skip, but I’ll go for a close match between two similar players.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Hills, SpreadEx

Mensur Suljovic vs. Gabriel Clemens

Mensur ended the hopes of Gerwyn Price last night, averaging 97.6 to win 6-4. He came from 3-4 down and won the last two legs with 13 darters. He clearly has been practising during his time off.

Clemens is getting the hang of this ET thing, winning four of his last five ET matches. However, he didn’t have to do much to beat Van den Bergh who only averaged 80 in his 1-6 defeat to the German. It looks like he will have to do a lot better if he is to get the better of a resurgent Suljovic.

Sunday Gibraltar Darts Trophy tips: 1 point Mensur Suljovic to win @ 1.73 generally available

Damon Heta vs. Joe Cullen

The Heat won the dodge pot derby 6-4 yesterday but only averaged 87 against Dobey. That was just his third win in his last ten matches and it was far from convincing. One of his recent defeats was to Joe Cullen, a 2-6 loss in the World Series.

Cullen has a 5-2 H2H record over Heta and has won five of their last 6. He beat Edhouse 6-4 in a perfunctory performance. Hopefully he can carry out hopes into the quarter finals and maybe beyond, but MVG is looming large in the bottom half of the draw. Cullen looks the value pick here at 1.91.

That’s all from me this weekend.
