Sunday Horse Racing Tips and Preview by Dave Stevos
Sunday Horse Racing Tips – Goodwood, Doncaster and Leopardstown
I thought it was going to be one of those days when three of our tips were withdrawn. However, it turned out to be a pretty decent day anyway. Century Dream got us off to the perfect start. James Doyle gave him a super ride and he won at 5/1 (advised e/w NAP 11/1). Things got even better at the Curragh with Edification. He looked all dressed up with nowhere to go but Ryan got him through to win. Advised at 25/1 e/w NB and won at 14s. Smash Williams ran alright but couldn’t cope with the top two. We preview another 6 races tomorrow, check out Dave Stevos’ Sunday horse racing tips below…
Sunday Horse Racing Tips: 2.00pm Doncaster – 5F Handicap (Class 2)
Small fields are the order of the day for the most part but 12 go to post for this 5f handicap. Those with the benefit of a run could be at an advantage and Encore D’Or was back out at Newmarket 8 days ago. He ran a decent enough race to finish 6th of 12 on quick ground and the return to an easier 5f should suit him.
Robert Cowell’s charge has had two runs at Doncaster, both in Listed company. They resulted in a win (5f sft) and a close 3rd (5f gd/sft). Richard Kingscote is riding well and he gets the leg up today. He has yet to win on this horse (2 previous attempts) but he has a few winners on the board for Cowell. The trainer is in superb form too, sending out 4 winners in the past fortnight. At odds of 10/1 Encore D’Or is the each way pick.

Sunday Preview: 2.20pm Goodwood – Cathedral Stakes (Listed)
I thought that Lyzbeth had a right chance at Newbury on Saturday but connections opted to come here instead. The reason for that is probably because one of her best runs came at Goodwood. She was only 4L behind the classy Billesdon Brook in a G3 over 7f here last season. That came on good ground but her reappearance win last season was on good to firm. She clearly appreciates it quick and conditions look ideal for her today.
Richard Kingscote was due to ride yesterday but Oisin Murphy is an able replacement. This will be his 60th ride for Martyn Meade and he has amassed 9 wins and 27 top 4s from the previous 59. Meade has no winners from 8 runners since racing has returned but a couple have gone close. It would be nice if Lyzbeth could get him off the mark here and at 10/1 she is the each way selection.

Sunday Horse Racing Tips: 3.10pm Doncaster – 10F Handicap (Class 2)
The horse I fancy for this handicap was formerly trained in Ireland by Tom Cleary. Hillwalker won a maiden at Gowran Park last season but was badly outclassed in the 2000 Guineas. He was sold for just 9,000 guineas and he is now with Tim Easterby. The son of Foxwedge made his first start for his new connections 12 days ago at Newcastle (8f).
He got outpaced between the 4f and 1f poles but he stayed on nicely enough into 5th. The way he finished his race off for James Sullivan suggested a step up to 10f would suit. He is down to a mark of 84 and on his maiden winning form that looks workable. Sullivan keeps the faith and if the good to soft ground doesn’t inconvenience him Hillwalker could reward each way support at 18/1.

Sunday Racing Preview: 4.45pm Leopardstown – 10F Handicap (3yo Only)
The last three races we preview are all 18 runner handicaps from Leopardstown. First up is a 3yo only heat over 10f and it is 8/1 the field. One potential improver on the forecast good ground could be Springbank for Johnny Murtagh. Gary Halpin takes the ride on this son of Galileo who is rated 78 after his 3 maiden runs last season. His best effort came on yielding on debut at the Curragh (7f) when he chased home Wichita and Fiscal Rules, two seriously talented animals.
It was soft and heavy for his next two maiden runs and that clearly didn’t suit. He was put away after that and gelded and he now gets good ground for the first time. On pedigree this step up to 10f ought to really suit this fella and he was doing his best work late on in that strong Curragh maiden. Murtagh got a nice winner on the board at the Curragh over the weekend and hopefully Springbank goes well here too. At odds of 16/1 he is the each way pick.

Sunday Horse Racing Tips: 5.15pm Leopardstown – 8F Handicap (45-70)
A mile is the trip for this 45-70 handicap and it is another maximum field of 18. The ultra-consistent Miracles Of May is the 6/1 jolly but that gelding has shown his best recent turf form on an easy surface. One horse that will enjoy the good ground and that has previous C&D placed form is Paris Duvet. Henry De Bromhead’s charge was 3rd in a similar race to this off 64 a year ago and she is back for a second bite at the cherry off just 1lb higher.
Top jumps jockey Rachael Blackmore gets the leg up and she was unlucky not to win on her only previous ride for De Bromhead on the flat since racing returned. This filly broke her maiden at Dundalk in Dundalk in December at today’s trip so there are no worries about the distance. She will need luck in running from stall 18 but hopefully Blackmore can work her magic. At odds of 16/1 Paris Duvet is the each way pick.

Sunday Racing Preview: 5.45pm Leopardstown – 7F Handicap (50-80)
A nice and easy 7f 18 runner handicap closes the show at Leopardstown on Sunday. This looks a minefield and I am going to take a chance on Ivaquestion for Sheila Lavery. This fella ran some nice races in maidens last term, including when a good 4th over today’s C&D. He was only a length behind Armory (3rd) now rated 110 and 2.5L behind the winner Beauty Smile who went on to win a listed race and get a rating of 106.
That was the only time Ivaquestion got good ground last season. His other three outings came on soft and heavy ground and he didn’t like it. The handicapper has handed him a rating of 75 and on his debut run that is workable. He has a decent draw in stall 11 and while Lavery is yet to have a winner, two of her four runners thus far were thereabouts. Robbie Colgan keeps the faith and at odds of 20/1 Ivaquestion is worth backing each way.
