Sunday Racing Tips From The UK, France and Ireland
We had a torrid start to the day at York on Saturday but we finished pretty well. Miss O’Connor broke down and thoughts go out to connections. We were on the wrong Balding horse in the Melrose and Punctuation set the race up for his stablemate. The easy ground was no good for Beat Le Bon, who again was tardy from the gates. Glencadam Glory went out on his shield and I am gutted he didn’t win. At least we got place money at 33/1. We rattled the crossbar with Queen Of Rio in the last at 50/1. There is top quality action on the menu in Ireland, France and the UK today, check out Dave Stevos’ Sunday racing tips below…
Sunday Racing Tips Deauville: 1.35pm Prix Morny (Group 1)
We head to France for our first tip of the day in the Prix Morny at Deauville. There is plenty of British interest in this race but I am taking a chance on one of the French horses. Livachope, a daughter of Goken, is unbeaten after 3 starts at 5f. Trained by Jane Soubagne, this filly is very quick and she has won each of her three starts easily. She has moved through the grades and her Group 3 win at Longchamp last time was very impressive.
This filly is usually quick from the gates and she will be up there early. She had them all in trouble over 2f out last time and it was such a good performance the owners of the horse she beat bought her. It looked like she still had plenty up her sleeve going across the line and she should be able to stay the extra furlong here. Her dam is related to winners at up to 10f so there is hope in her pedigree that this trip will suit too. In receipt of a 4lb weight for sex allowance, Livachope could make them all go here. At odds of 16/1 she is the e/w pick.
Sunday Racing Tips: Livachope e/w @ 16/1 NAP
Naas Tips: 1.50pm – Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed)
First up at Naas on Sunday is this 7f Listed contest for 3yos or older yet to win a Group race. Current Option has taken the step into Stakes company in his stride and he looks a worthy favourite for Ado McGuinness and Gavin Ryan. He handles soft ground, he stays well and he won with a bit in hand last time at Cork.
We were on Miss Myers at massive odds when she last ran at Naas and she just missed out on a place over a mile. She disappointed on better ground on her next two starts over further but it was more like it at Galway last time back at 7f. Okay, she was beat 9L behind Champers Elysees in 4th but A New Dawn was just 2L in front of her in 3rd and she went close at Gowran on her next outing in a Listed contest. Plenty of these have it to prove on testing ground but Miss Myers ticks that box and at odds of 50/1 she might nick some black type.
Naas Sunday Tips: Miss Myers e/w @ 50/1
ITV3 Live Tips Naas: 2.50pm – Ballyhane Stakes (2yo)
A pot of £320k is up for grabs in this 6f sales race and a field of 20 go to post. Tom Dascombe tends to do well with his raiders in Ireland and he has the jolly here in Devious Company. Rated 107, he has gone close on his last two starts and one of those was in Group 2 company. He is well treated by the conditions of this race and if he goes on the ground he could be tough to beat.
Karl Burke is another trainer that does really well in Ireland, especially at Naas. He is 3/4 with his runners at the Kildare track and he runs two in this. Inhaler is a shorter price than Rebel at Dawn, but I think the latter could be worth chancing each way. He ran really well in the same sales race as the favourite at York and there was just over 2L between them. By Dandy Man, soft ground should suit on pedigree and this looks the right trip for him. Given Devious Company is only 3/1, the 33/1 about Rebel at Dawn looks huge and he is the e/w selection.
Sunday Racing Tips: Rebel At Dawn e/w @ 33/1 NB (4 Places)
Sandown Sunday Tips: 3.05pm – Atalanta Stakes (Group 3)
This mile contest for fillies and mares has attracted a field of 10. The ground is good at Sandown but there are showers around and there should be a little bit of juice in it. We were on Lady Bowthorpe at big odds when she won at Ascot last time. She hosed up and she looks a really smart performer for William Jarvis. She has run well over C&D before and it would be no surprise if she won again here.
However, the one that looks overpriced today is Onassis. This filly scored from a terrible draw at Royal Ascot under a well-judged ride by Hayley Turner (8f sft). She was beat 5L by Summer Romance on her next start at Epsom in a G3 (8f gd). However she got back to winning ways in France last time out at Chantilly in a Listed heat (8f gd). That form doesn’t look anything special but it was a good confidence booster. The daughter of Dubawi will be held up and produced late and if she gets a clear passage, Onassis could sneak into the frame at odds of 18/1.
Sunday Sandown Tips: Onassis e/w @ 18/1
Naas Tips: 3.20pm – Stanerra Stakes (Group 3)
10 go to post in this 14f Group 3 contest, another one for fillies and mares. Kastasa has won her last 5 in a row, the last two coming in Listed and G3 company. She returned to action a month ago at Gowran and scored by less than a length in a Listed heat. That should have put her spot on fitness wise and with improvement likely and her trainer in such good form it is no surprise to see her as the favourite here.
Yaxeni was far from disgraced in the Oaks last time and she could outrun her odds here. She has produced her two best runs on easier ground so she should enjoy the soft conditions this afternoon. Her sole start on soft resulted in victory on debut and she was only beat 2.75L in a G3 on yielding down in Cork (12f). She gets a nice chunk of weight from her older rivals and there is loads of stamina on the dam side of her pedigree so this trip could suit. At odds of 14/1 Yaxeni could sneak into the frame with Colin Keane back in the plate.
