Wednesday 2023 PDC World Championship Preview
James Punt got back on the winning trail last night with his over 6.5 sets bet on the Clemens v Williams thriller at 3.10. He is back with another preview for this afternoon at the Ally Pally. Check out his Wednesday 2023 PDC World Championship tips below.
Ryan Searle vs. Jose de Sousa
Searle had a low scoring win against Adam Gawlas in his opening game, which would have been a welcome change from throwing a ton plus average and losing. He has lost five of his last ten but hit five ton plus averages in those ten.
His H2H record with The Special One is 1-3 and he has lost their last three in a row. Two of them required a deciding leg in players championship semi-final and a final. Jose getting it done in important, close matches. De Sousa has also lost five of his last ten matches and he has had some woes on the outer ring and that is where he is vulnerable.
More Experience
Searle is the more experienced in these third round matches, winning two from four, whereas De Sousa has lost both of his. This will be their first time playing on TV and neither can be said to be in good form or feeling very confident. Searle is playing the better darts but losing too many matches and De Sousa is losing too many matches but not showing many signs of an A game.
Searle is the 1.67 favourite, De Sousa 2.30. That looks about right and if De Sousa loses his radar on the doubles, he could be under a lot of pressure very quickly.

Danny Noppert vs. Alan Soutar
Danny Noppert must end his run of three losing 3rd round World Championship defeats, all 2-4. Soutar, on the other hand, has a 100% record of played one, won one. He has taken a liking to the Ally Pally stage having won five of his six matches here. He has never averaged more than 93, but he certainly isn’t getting battered, despite what the football fans think.
They have only met once before, a recent players championship match which Soutar won 6-5.
If this was just down to fire power, Noppert wins. Soutar just doesn’t have the heavy scoring that Noppert processes, but he is a very effective player. Both players have won seven of their last ten matches and both will fancy their chances.
Noppert Favourite
Noppert is the 1.40 favourite with Soutar 3.10. That looks a bit short about Noppert, who will be aware that he has yet to get past this stage in three attempts. He has improved this season, he is a major winner and has become a more accomplished player, reaching two major quarter finals, a semi-final and winning the UK Open in 2022.
Soutar can’t hope to keep on winning World Championship matches with paper thin averages and I’ll take the Dutchman to get his first third round win, but he may have to work for it.

Gary Anderson vs. Chris Dobey
This is a repeat of their last 16 match in 2018 when Anderson won 4-3 in something of a classic match. Anderson has a great third round record here, winning all but one of his thirteen matches and that was his very first one. He doesn’t make things easy for himself or his fans. Six of his third rounds have gone to a decider and his last four in a row. He is in decent form having won six of his last ten and was solid in his 3-1 win over Razma in the opener.
Dobey has also won six of his last ten matches and didn’t have to do much to beat Kleermaker 3-0 in the first last round. He has played four third round matches here and won two, a 4-3 win over Van der Voort And a 4-2 win over Fallon Sherrock. Gary Anderson is likely to be a much stiffer task.
Their H2H record is very much in Anderson’s favour, 8-2. He has won seven of their last eight and on TV 2-1.
Anderson is the 1.80 favourite with Dobey 2.00. It seems to me that Anderson is being written off too early. This is Ally Pally, Anderson country. He practices for this.
