York Ebor Meeting Day-4 Tips For ITV Live Races

Saturday Tips FOR All ITV Live Races At York

Both of our runners on Day-3 didn’t manage to reach the money. Fairyland got upset in the stalls and never raised a gallop. She is a better filly than that and she could bounce back before the season ends. Summer Sands was far from disgraced and with a clear run might have challenged for a place. Threat looked a decent winner though and Richard Hannon has a couple of talented 2yos on his hands. The Ebor Handicap is the highlight on Saturday but there are a couple of interesting Group races live on ITV too. Check out Dave Stevos’ York Ebor Meeting Day-4 tips below…

York Ebor Meeting Day-4 Tips: 1.55 Strensall Stakes (Group 3)

A 9f Group 3 kicks off proceedings on the final day of the Ebor Festival. Only 6 will go to post and it looks a tight little contest. Wissahickon represents the all conquering Dettori and Gosden team and he is the 7/4 fav. This will be his first start on turf since he won the Cambridgeshire in 2018 (9f gd/fm).

He has only run on the all weather at Lingfield since, disappointing behind Matterhorn when last seen on Good Friday (10f). He has an absence to overcome but he is 2/3 on good to firm ground (including here) and he will go close if fully fit. Of the rest, Escobar is interesting upped in trip after a couple of solid handicap runs, including here over a mile. However, with just 2 places available each way this is a race to just watch and enjoy.

YORK EBOR MEETING DAY-4: NO BET

York Preview Saturday: 2.25 – Melrose Handicap (Class 2)

With over £77k going to the winner, it is surprising that only 13 3yos go to post for this 14f handicap. Dettori and Gosden have the favourite again in First In Line and he is a fascinating contender. Since finishing 2nd on debut at Nottingham (10f) he has landed a couple of Novice heats over the same trip. His 6L romp at Doncaster was particularly impressive and his Lingfield form has worked out well. He will need to be good to defy a mark of 96, but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he did just that.

One that could go well at a price is Just Hubert. This stoutly bred son of Dunaden has improved with every run this season. He has won his last two, including his first try at this trip at Sandown. He swerved badly close to home that day but still managed to win. William Muir reckons he could be a Melbourne Cup horse in the future, just like his sire. He could have a bit more improvement in him and off his revised mark of 86 he could go well for each way backers at 22/1.

York Ebor Meeting Day-4: 3.00 – City Of York Stakes (Group 3)

This Group 2 has attracted ten horses and yet again, Gordon Lord Byron looks overpriced. Okay, he is an 11yo now and it is 7 years since he won this very race . However, he is still clearly loving his racing and this year he has showed he still retains a lot of ability. He hasn’t been disgraced on any of his runs in handicap, Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 company this season, apart from his seasonal return.

His superb run when 4th behind Romanised on his last start at 7f would give him each way claims here. Mr Lupton was only 6th that day, 2L behind the selection, yet he is half the price of Tom Hogan’s veteran. All of Gordon Lord Byron’s best recent form has come on decent ground and conditions will be perfect tomorrow. He was a fine 2nd to Expert Eye in this last year, despite Billy Lee losing an iron. 33/1 looks huge, he has a top class partner in Colin Keane and his form figures at York read 1372. It would be no surprise if he sneaks a place and Gordon Lord Byron is the each way pick.

York Racing Preview: 3.35 – Ebor Handicap (Class 2)

At odds of 18/1 I think Mustajeer has outstanding claims here. He races off the same mark off which he was an excellent 4th in this race last season. He was held up and didn’t get the clearest of runs so he did well to finish as close as he did. Ger Lyons doesn’t send many over to England, but when he does he usually means business. This race has likely been on Mustajeer’s radar ever since last year and he had a lovely prep run behind Twilight Payment at the Curragh (14f gd).

He stayed on nicely from the back for 5th and was just over 3L behind the winner. Thankfully the handicapper left his mark alone and the 6yo son of Medicean should be fine on the quick ground at York tomorrow. It was good to firm here last year and he earned a career best RPR of 109. Ger Lyons is flying (8 winners from last 34 runners) and at odds of 18/1 Mustajeer should give each way backers a big run for their money.

YORK TIPS SATURDAY: MUSTAJEER E/W @ 18/1 5 PLACES NAP
