2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips For Live ITV Races

Tuesday went okay for us at Glorious Goodwood on Day 1. Nicholas T got no run but Walkinthesand managed to grab 6th at 33/1, advised e/w for 6 places. Gortyus ran a very nice race but could only manage 4th. He will surely go up in trip next time. Duke Of Hazzard ran a blinder to grab 2nd, advised e/w @ 13/2. He didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs and he could have got closer to the winner. Ornate didn’t get to the front and spat the dummy out. The star studded Sussex Stakes is the highlight on Wednesday. Check out Dave Stevos’ 2020 Goodwood Day 2 tips for live ITV races below…

Day 2 Goodwood Selections: 1.45pm – Unibet Handicap (Class 2)

The stayers take centre stage in the first live race on ITV on Wednesday. 16 go to post in this 20.5f contest and stamina will be crucial. One horse that looks like he will enjoy returning to this trip is the veteran Its’afreebee. Trained by Richard Spencer, this 10yo ran a blinder on his last start at around today’s distance at Royal Ascot in the Queen Alexandra.

In that 21f conditions race he got tapped for toe turning in but he stayed on really well in the final furlong for 5th. He was 6L behind the first two (rated 107 and 104) off level weights and just 1.5L behind Nate The Great (rated 94) conceding 1lb. The admirable old boy races off a mark of 85 in this and with his jockey’s claim he is effectively in off 80. He again finished 5th over 16f at York last time in a race that wasn’t run to suit. With 5 places available, Its’afreebee is the each way pick at odds of 33/1.

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: Its’afreebee e/w @ 33/1 NAP (5 Places)

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: 2.15pm – Unibet Handicap (Class 2)

This is a very tricky looking 11 runner 12f handicap. Mark Johnston has a fine record in it and he runs two. Glenties is the shorter one and he will have the assistance of William Buick in the saddle. He won well on quick ground last time and off 4lb higher he could go well again. Stable jockey Joe Fanning will ride Kings Caper. He bounced back from a couple of poor runs with a fine effort in Italy last time. He carries a lot of weight but it would be no surprise were he to run well.

Sound Of Cannons is a horse with serious ability but unfortunately he is a bit of a headcase. He has some seriously good form in the book as a 2yo but he has pulled his chance away on his last three outings. The application of a hood made him even worse last time and unsurprisingly that is discarded. If he got his act together the son of Nathaniel is well handicapped on his old form, but it is too big an if to justify a bet. If he looks calm and collected in the prelims I might back him. Kings Caper looks a more solid option at odds of 20/1 with 4 places available and he is the e/w pick.

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: Kings Caper e/w @ 20/1 (4 places Skybet)

ITV Live Selections: 2.45pm – Molecomb Stakes (Group 3)

The first pattern race of the day at Glorious Goodwood is this 5f Group 3 for 2yos only. Steel Bull heads the market for Keane and O’Callaghan after his impressive win at Naas. The son of Clodovil hosed up, beating a horse of Joseph O’Briens with more experience easily. This is a very tricky track for older horses, let alone 2yos with just a solitary run and that lack of experience has to be a massive worry for his supporters.

There is loads of early pace in this race and it could turn into a proper burn up. If they set it up for a closer, Internationaldream could be the one to pounce late. He was just behind Significantly (9/2 here) at Sandown and he kept on really well for 3rd. This is a very different track and his sole win so far came over 6f, but he might just get away with it if they go quickly enough in front. In comparison to Significantly he looks massively overpriced at odds of 25/1 when you consider there was only 0.75L between them last time. At those odds an each way bet is most definitely warranted.

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: Internationaldream e/w @ 25/1 NB

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: 3.15pm – Sussex Stakes (Group 1)

A lot of the top races this season have underwhelmed but that isn’t the case with this one. This year’s Sussex Stakes could be one of the best Group 1s in recent memory. The Irish and English Guineas winners Siskin and Kameko line up, as does the ultra-impressive Royal Ascot winner Mohaather. Ballydoyle are represented too. O’Brien runs three, Queen Anne winner Circus Maximus, Newmarket Guineas runner up Wichita and the Irish Guineas runner up Vatican City. San Donato completes the field and he chased home Mohaather at Ascot.

So who wins? To be honest, I haven’t the foggiest! Siskin remains unbeaten and you had to love the bravery he showed to win last time at the Curragh. Mohaather looked a machine when winning at Ascot, while Kameko was all out to score in the Guineas. If it was a stiffer track Vatican City would have a good chance of turning the Curragh form around with Siskin.

The track should suit both Circus Maximus and Wichita who have more natural pace than Vatican City. Even San Donato has a chance of playing a part if he improves on his seasonal return behind Mohaather. You could truly make a serious case for almost all of them and I will be sitting on the fence. I hope Siskin does it for Keane and Lyons but with only 2 places on offer for each way bets I won’t be getting involved.

2020 Goodwood Day 2 Tips: No Bet

ITV Live Selections: Goodwood 3.45pm – Conditions Stakes (Class 2)

A disappointing turn out of just 5 for this fillies’ conditions race for 2yos. Spright heads the market after her decisive win at York over 6f last time. She has plenty of speed and should be okay dropped back a furlong in trip. Miss Jingles, Furlong Factor and Country Carnival all have claims too. Spright looks the most likely winner but at the odds I won’t be getting involved. Nothing looks terribly overpriced and this is another race I’ll just be watching. No bet.
