2022 Irish 1000 Guineas Ante-Post Tip

Dave Stevos has already had a look at the 2000 Guineas, click here to see his fancy. On Sunday it is the turn of the ladies and he thinks a 20/1 shot is worth backing e/w. Check out his 2022 Irish 1000 Guineas ante-post tip below.

2022 Irish 1000 Guineas Preview

If History is a 5/1 shot for the 1000 Guineas, there is no way that Panama Red is a 20/1 poke. Ger Lyons’ daughter of Showcasing has had two runs this season. On both occasions she was held up for a late run. Last year, she raced a lot more prominently for her two wins. So, it looks to me like Lyons was trying to teach her to settle better. On her comeback over 7f at Leopardstown, she was too far back. However, when they hit the straight and Gary Carroll switched her wide, she finished with a proper rattle.

On her next outing, again at Leopardstown, Lyons stepped her up to 8f. She broke well for Colin Keane but again, he reined her back and she was second last as they turned for home. When the leaders quickened Panama Red was still hard on the bridle. She was making up lots of ground on the inside for Keane. However, she just ran out of room at an absolutely vital stage. When she eventually found daylight, the birds had flown. Still, she finished a decent 5th, only 2.25L behind History.

Solid 2yo Form

This filly had pretty solid 2yo form. On her second start she ran at the Curragh (7f gd) and she flew home for 4th, 1.5L behind Concert Hall. I have no doubt that she would have won that quite comfortably over a mile. Next, she stepped up to 7.5f at Tipperary (gd/yld) and she put History in her place, beating her by 1.5L. On her final outing as a 2yo she landed a Listed heat at Leopardstown (7f gd), beating a subsequent Listed winner in Limiti Di Greccio.

She is a half sister to the useful Power Of States and he won over 9.5f so this 8f trip was always likely to suit. Her dam is from the family of French Derby winner Anabaa Blue and her sire, Showcasing, has produced plenty of classy sorts, including top miler Mohaather. Tuesday and Homeless Songs arguably have the best 3yo form but they have shown their hands. I don’t think we have seen the best of Panama Red yet and at odds of 20/1, she is worth backing each way.
