2022 PC Finals Sunday Darts Preview and Tips

It was another solid session for James Punt at Minehead last night. He fired in winners at 2.10, 1.83, 1.70, 1.75 and 1.90. He is back in action again tonight with one last preview, get James’ 2022 PC Finals Sunday Tips below.

Callan Rydz vs. Jonny Clayton

Neither of these two players has really fired so far. Rydz’ tournament average is just 88.4, Clayton’s 93.2, not the sort of numbers you think would get players into a major quarter final. The draw and how that has panned out has certainly helped, especially for Rydz.

Clayton had to beat the in-form Ross Smith, but O’Shea and Joyce are players that he should beat, and he did. Rydz was lucky that Razma was off his game, averaging less than 80 but still going to a deciding leg. Pietreczko took out the number 1 seed, Damon Heta, but was unlikely to win again given it was his first time on TV and Keane Barry, for all his promise, is only the world number 45. But, whatever the reasons for getting here, one of them will go into a semi-final.

Clayton Edges H2H

Their H2H record is 2-1 for Clayton and on TV 1-0. He is the more experienced player at this sort of level. He has played in three players championship semi-finals and won two. The Ferret has played in eight ranking major quarter finals and won five. Rydz has played two ranking major quarter finals and lost them both.

There has been very little to suggest that Rydz is going to find his A game out of the blue and Clayton deserves to be favourite. He hasn’t shown us much more than that his experience allows him to do the right thing at the right time and when he needs to. He can dig something out and that will be enough to win this. Easily? That is harder to say. It is hard to see him destroying Rydz, we haven’t seen any sort of killer form from Clayton.

Clayton is the 1.40 favourite, Rydz 3.10. There is no value there. Of the last 32 quarter finals in the best of 19 leg format, 7 have ended 10-6 and this match has that sort look about it. Rydz will win legs, but Clayton should just have that bit more class and be able to control the match.

Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Rob Cross

The Aubergenius played one of the best matches of the year against Ryan Searle yesterday. He averaged 112 in a 10-9 win with eleven 180s and a 55% checkout rate. And he only won by 1 leg but had to come from 3-7 down. His tournament average is 102.7. Rob Cross has a tournament average of 95.4, perfectly good, but rather tame by comparison to Dirk’s.

Their H2H record is 2-2, in 2022 1-1 but on TV 2-0 to Dirk.

Cross is the more experienced and successful player in ranking majors. He has played 12 quarter finals and won 7 while Van Duijvenbode has played six and won two.

Dirk Odds On

Dirk van Duijvenbode is the 1.61 favourite, Cross 2.50. There might be a bit of an overreaction to Van Duijvenbode’s massive score yesterday and it may be that the match took something out of him. His match against Daryl Gurney was an easy 6-1 win and he had plenty in the tank against Searle, but he was knackered by the end of it. He now needs to press reset and start from scratch. Cross had to survive a match dart from Anderson but he hasn’t really been under the cosh so far and will be the fresher player.

The H2Hs suggest that either player could win. I am surprised that Dirk has the better TV record and he deserves to be favourite, but I do worry that he may be a bit flat after such a big performance last night. Cross has a lot of big match experience and he doesn’t give up. He will grind and can hit the high notes himself and this might be another gruelling match for Dirk when want he needs is a bit of a stroll.

Luke Humphries vs. Joe Cullen

Their H2H record is 4-3 to Cullen but in 2022, it is 2-1 to Humphries and he has won three of their last four. They have never met on TV, nor in anything other than a best of 11 leg match.

Humphries’ tournament average is 101.1 and for Cullen 94.6. Joe Cullen has had an easy passage to this quarter final, never under pressure in any match and he will be nice and fresh for this. Humphries has been the better player, maybe the best in the tournament. He had to cope with a comeback from Ratajski last night and from 4-1 up it was 7-7, but he was always able to pull out what he needed. He was pushed by De Decker as well so he has spent more energy, but he also showed his class.

Humphries The Better Player

Humphries is the 1.62 favourite, Cullen 2.38. He is the better player, but Cullen’s A game is very good and he is not without a chance. Humphries has played six ranking major quarter finals and won two, including last weekend’s Grand Slam, when he beat MVG 16-10.

Cullen has played in seven and won two. He reached the 2020 players championship quarter final and lost that 9-10 to Gerwyn Price. He lost last weekend’s quarter final to Michael Smith 15-16 and win or lose, his quarter finals have been fairly close affairs.

2022 PC Finals Sunday Tips: 0.5 point Humphries to win 10-9 @ 10.00 with Betfair

Both players were good on the maximums yesterday, Humphries hitting 13 at 0.48 per leg, Cullen 10 at 0.41. A close match and we should see well over 10.5.

Danny Noppert vs. Michael van Gerwen

A fascinating all Dutch clash. There has been a bit of niggle between the two in the past, with Noppert unhappy with a bit of gamesmanship by MVG. Their H2H record is 8-5 to MVG, but Noppert has won four of their last six. In 2022 it is 3-2 to Noppert and on TV 2-1. That will surprise a few people. Many Dutch players are in fear of MVG but Noppert no longer is.

Noppert’s tournament average is 99.2, MVG’s 101.6.

Noppert is becoming more experienced in these big TV matches. He has now played six ranked major quarter finals and won four, including two from three this year. MVG has won shed loads.

Noppert is the 3.10 outsider and given his record against van Gerwen, he is worth taking a chance on. MVG went down quite tamely in his quarter final with Humphries last weekend and that will be fresh in his mind. He may be back winning big titles again, but the doubts are still there.

2022 PC Finals Sunday Tips: 1 point Danny Noppert to win @ 3.10 generally available

That will be all from me this weekend. We still have two live outright bets in the hat and fingers crossed we can have a decent run today and bit of interest running to the last match of the night.

World Championship next!
