2022 Saturday PC Finals Darts Preview and Tips

James had a decent afternoon, landing a nice few winners throughout the day. It could have been more only for some missed doubles. He is back in action again tonight, get James’ 2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: below.

Callan Rydz vs. Keane Barry

Barry’s love affair with Butlins Resort in Minehead continues. He beat Andrew Gilding 6-5 and averaged 100. That is two strong performances in a row and he will be in good fettle.

Rydz, on the other hand, has had two sub 90 averages to beat Razma and Pietreczko. The young German missed a dart to square the match at 4-4 and the score line flattered Rydz. He capable of better but he needs to start showing it, but his last four matches have been sub 90’s.

Their H2H record is 2-1 to Rydz but they have never met at senior level. They have not met since 2020 and Barry is an improved player since then. Rydz is as well, but he has just gone off the boil recently.

Rob Cross vs. Martin Schindler

Cross was able to take advantage of Anderson’s missed match dart to pinch the match 6-5. This has been something of a theme for the tips this week, players missing doubles. Cross averaged 97.6 and deserved the win having come from behind three times. Anderson should have won but Cross stuck in and took his chances.

He now attempts to do something he hasn’t done since 2017 and reach the quarter finals. He has a 6-3 H2H record over Schindler and in 2022 it is 2-1, although it should be 2-1 to Schindy, but he blew a lead in the recent Grand Slam.

Schindler hit five 180s on his way to beating Chris Dobey 6-5. It was a bit scrappy to be honest and he only averaged 91.6. He will be trying to reach his first major quarter finals and he is in with a chance, but he needs to play better than he did this afternoon.

Between the two of them they have hit 14 180s, Cross at 0.35 per leg, Schindler 0.33. I expect there to be a healthy amount in this tonight. Schindler is ranked 7th for 180s per leg in the last 12 months and Cross is doing better than usual.

Jonny Clayton vs. Ryan Joyce

The Ferret scraped past Ross Smith this afternoon, winning 6-5. Smith just had a bad day on the doubles (26%) and it was enough to let Clayton through. It was hardly vintage Clayton, averaging 92.3, no 180s and just 33% on the doubles.

Smith missed three darts to got 4-2 up, two to go 4-3 up, one to go 5-4 up and a 16 dart leg was enough for Clayton to win. He dodged a lot of bullets, but he is now into the longer format which should help, but he isn’t at his best.

Ryan Joyce had the luxury of Wattimena not turning up and he went 5-1 up without playing well. He then let Wattimena back into the game, losing back-to-back legs before hitting a 158 checkout to win 6-3.

A classy finish, but he’ll need to play even better against an under par Clayton. Joyce has made one major quarter final in the past, but he will be getting a bit of a nosebleed getting this far.

Joyce has done Clayton a big favour, and the rest of the field, by knocking out Price, but this is a longer format and Clayton has so much more experience in these big TV matches.

Close Matches

Their H2H record is 2-0 to Clayton, both were close, 5-4 and 6-4 but they have never played a long format match. I have to expect the big match experience of Clayton to be enough but Joyce, a good player on the doubles, could be a tougher proposition than the bookies think, so long as Clayton continues to be a bit flat.

Clayton is the 1.40 favourite which is fair enough. Joyce has played in two best of 19 leg matches on TV this year and lost both, 9-10 to Dirk van Duijvenbode in the World Series Finals and 8-10 to Martin Schindler in the UK Open.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 1 point over 16.5 legs @ 1.91 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports

Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Ryan Searle

Dirk averaged 101 in a 6-1 demolition of Daryl Gurney this afternoon. 60% on his doubles was impressive and he looks in good nick. He has won six of his last ten matches and he can hit a flat spot out of the blue, as he did last week when losing 4-10 to Joe Cull in the last 16 match at the grand Slam.

Ryan Searle has won six of his last ten but he is starting to find his best form again after a spell of poor results. He is averaging 100 across his first two matches and he is a player who can match Dirk in terms of fire power. He reached the final here last year, beating Rob Cross 10-7 at this stage. That was after struggling in the first two rounds (he should have lost both).

Their H2H record is 4-1 to Dirk van Duijvenbode and they last met on TV at the World Matchplay which Dirk won 10-8. They have met twice in 2022 and Dirk has won both, the other being a players championship final which he won 8-7.

Dirk van Duijvenbode is the 1.62 favourite with Searle 2.50. Dirk has been hitting the 180s at 0.33 per leg, Searle has only hit two at 0.11. If those rates stay roughly the same, it is going to give Dirk the edge.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 2 points over 16.5 legs @ 1.83 with Boylesports

Luke Humphries vs. Krzysztof Ratajski

Humphries looked majestic at times against De Decker this afternoon and it was credit to the Belgian to be able to make him have to dig very deep to get the 6-4 win. It was a 101 average for Cool Hand in the end but he was up at 109 at one point.

Ratajski didn’t have to do much to beat De Sousa, who averaged just 84 and went down 1-6 to the Polish Eagle. This will be a very different challenge for Ratajski who hasn’t shown much in the way of firepower this weekend or in recent weeks.

Humphries is the 1.50 favourite despite Ratajski having a 4-1 H2H record. Humphries beat him 6-4 a few weeks ago but Ratajski won their only long format match 11-5 in last year’s Matchplay. Humphries is a winner these days and Ratajski has regressed in 2022, but it is a worry.

I still expect Humphries to be too good for Ratajski who has been struggling lately.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 1 point Humphries to win -1.5 legs @ 1.70 Ladbrokes

Matt Campbell vs. Danny Noppert

Noppert is the massive 1.30 favourite here and he has looked very good so far, dropping just two legs. Campbell lacks long match experience and he is out of his depth here. He has a good A game but in a first to ten leg match? You’d take Noppert every time.

They have met twice this year and it is 1-1, both short matches. This is a different ball game and I’ll take Noppert to cover the handicap.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 2 points Noppert to win -2.5 legs @ 1.73 with SpreadEx

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Michael van Gerwen

MVG will be glad to see the back of the first to six format. He very nearly tripped up against Menzies this afternoon, but he came through 6-4.

Van den Bergh was very unimpressive when beating Edhouse 6-5. He has been playing poorly for a while, just not himself, and over this format I fear MVG will do damage to him.

Their H2H record is 10-1 to Van Gerwen and with Van den Bergh lacking confidence he is likely to get beaten by a margin.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 2 points MVG to win -2.5 legs @ 1.75 with Ladbrokes

Scott Williams vs. Joe Cullen

Williams smashed Dave Chisnall up earlier. He hit seven 180s, hit a 156 checkout and was 60% on the doubles. Chisnall averaged 102 but was 0-4 before he got a leg on the board. He hit a couple of 11 darters to get back into the match but eventually Williams fell over the line. It may be that the fact that this is a long format match which is going to be the deciding factor.

Cullen is used to them, Williams has played a single one. Cullen has averaged 92 in both his matches, only dropped three legs and he has the experience to ride out any Williams storm.

Williams had the puncher’s chance in the short format, but he might just punch himself out in a long match.

Cullen hasn’t impressed so far but he has not had to do anything more than he has.

2022 Saturday PC Finals Tips: 1 point Cullen to win -1.5 legs @ 1.90 with SpreadEx
