2024 European Darts GP Sunday Preview
Now, it is time for James Punt’s 2024 European Darts GP Sunday preview. James has had an outstanding weekend so far and even landed a 7.00 correct score tip last night, hopefully our good run continues.
Josh Rock vs. Michael Smith
Rock had a funny game against Jeffery Sparidaans yesterday. He only averaged 90.9 but hit two 170 checkouts and won 6-2. Michael Smith needed a deciding leg to beat Van Barneveld and averaged 94.8.
Smith has lost five of his last ten matches and is hard to call, Rock has won seven of his last ten, but hasn’t been rock solid. We are on Rock outright, hopefully he gets through a tricky match.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: No Bet
Gary Anderson vs. Gerwyn Price
The two old rivals renew hostilities. Anderson’s 6-3 win over Perez yesterday means he has won eight of his last ten matches and he managed a 110 average against the Filipino. Gerwyn Price also averaged 110 in his 6-1 win over Brendan Dolan. That made it six wins from his last ten.
Two of the heaviest scorers in the game, both in form, so they will average about 85?
Their H2H record is 13-12 to Anderson, and he has won four of their last five. They last met in ET1 back in early March, and Price won that 6-4. Both averaged over a ton and there was ten 180s.
Price is the 1.80 favourite, Anderson 2.10. I might have reversed those odds. Price still has a bit of a tendency to miss big doubles, and missing just one could be the difference today.
I will have a rare bet on the 180s market. Both players are banging them in and I suspect we could have a long match.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: 1 point over 6.5 180s @ 1.80 with Boylesports, SpreadEx
Rob Cross vs. Danny Noppert
Noppert won an excellent match against Daryl Gurney 6-5 yesterday, and Cross broke the hearts of the home fans by beating Martin Schindler 6-5. Both hit ton plus averages and this could be close.
Cross has lost five of his last ten matches, Noppert has won nine. Their H2H record is 4-4 and they have already met twice on the Euro Tour in 2024, both winning one, and both were very one sided affairs, 6-1 to Cross in ET1 and 6-2 to Noppert in ET2.
Their last three best of eleven leg matches have produced just five maximums and even in two 6-5 results, neither saw more than five. I will have another bet on the 180s. Another short match would help.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: 1 point under 4.5 180s @ 2.05 with Ladbrokes
Luke Humphries vs. Stephen Bunting
Humphries survived a match dart in a deciding leg against Littler last night. That was a kick in the nuts. Not only did we have Littler to win 6-5, but he was our number one outright selection. It was another ton plus average for Humphries and it will be interesting to see how he gets on today. He has commented on tiredness and he may have to play four matches.
Bunting has averaged 98 in both his two matches this weekend, so he can give Humphries a match. However Bunting averaged 98, and lost 2-10 in the UK Open, so maybe not.
Their H2H record is 7-5 to Humphries but Bunting won their last match, a 6-4 win just last weekend. That was a strangely poor match, Bunting averaging just 89 and winning. In 2024 it is 2-1 to Bunting.
Humphries is the 1.44 favourite, Bunting 3.10. The odds look about right and I’ll sit this one out.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: No Bet
Ritchie Edhouse vs. Ross Smith
The Edhouse band wagon rumbles on. Hopefully the wheels come off today as he faces one of our remaining outright selections, Ross Smith.
Their H2H record is a depressing one for Smith, he is 0-5 vs. Edhouse. It is a strange record as Smith is normally the heavier scorer, but today he faces an Edhouse who is in peak form and who fears no one.
Smith is the 1.62 favourite, Edhouse 2.38. That doesn’t make a lot of sense given Edhouse’s form and their H2H record. I have no option but to hedge and back Edhouse.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: 1 point Ritchie Edhouse to win @ 2.38 with Boylesports, BET365, Betvictor
Damon Heta vs. Scott Williams
Heta made mincemeat of Micky Mansell, averaging 117.48, but Mansell did us proud and won the required two legs, and averaged 104 himself. I don’t know what was going on yesterday, but the scoring was off the charts. We had had twelve ton plus averages and three over 110. Clearly, if Heta can keep it up, Williams is toast.
Williams does have a good A game but he is averaging around 90 for his first two matches so far.
Williams famously beat Heta 4-1 in the World Championship but Heta got a little revenge with a 6-5 win in PC8 a couple of weeks ago.
Heta is the 1.44 favourite. There is no guarantee he can get close to how he played yesterday, and he hasn’t dominated Williams in their two matches so far. I can’t find any value in this match. No bet.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: No Bet
Michael van Gerwen vs. Jonny Clayton
Jonny Clayton knocked out our outright selection Chris Dobey 6-5 yesterday. It was harsh on Dobey who did very little wrong but Clayton was hitting ton plus checkouts for fun and we was robbed.
MVG beat Johan Engstrom 6-1 and averaged 100.75. That means he has won seven of his last ten, but he is still not playing with a lot of consistency.
Clayton has won five of his last ten matches and he is playing OK, he can be a dangerous opponent, just ask Dobey. He has a good H2H record vs MVG. The Dutchman is 21-17 and in their last ten, it is 5-5. Five ended 6-3.
I am just going to take a flier and back Clayton to win 6-3, which he has done three time in their last nine best of eleven leg matches.
2024 European Darts GP Sunday Tip: 0.5 point Clayton to win 6-3 @ 15.00 with Hills
Dave Chisnall vs. Gabriel Clemens
Chizzy laboured to a 6-3 win over Keane Barry yesterday, but it was only an 86.64 average. At least it was a win as he had lost four of previous five. He is not in good form.
Clemens has come through two German derbies in not very convincing fashion. His two opponents didn’t turn up. Can he get lucky again? Possibly. Chizzy has not been scoring well and is there for the taking, but Clemens is in worse form.
Chisnall is 5-1 with Clemens, but two player who are out of form makes little appeal. No bet.
