2026 Barcelona-Catalunya GP Qualifying
Free practice has established that Mercedes remain the team to beat, followed by McLaren and Ferrari, who look neck and neck in terms of pace. Red Bull come next but well separated from the top three.
Leading the midfield this weekend are Audi and the Racing Bulls. Then a drop of a few tenths to the disappointing Alpines. Williams and Haas follow them and then the usual suspects at the back.
Antonelli has dominated qualifying so far in 2026, four poles and all front rows, but he hasn’t been on the pace so far this weekend. He sat out FP1 and wasn’t great in FP2. Today, he didn’t get to set a representative time as he was blocked by traffic on at least two occasions. He just gave up trying to set a time and it is hard to say where he stacks up. I assume another front row, but maybe Russell has the edge today? Hard to say.
Tyre Degradation
The McLarens look in good shape for the race. Tyre degradation is very high and while being gentle on their tyres in a cool weather qualifying session is a problem, the same characteristics mean they look after the tyres better in high degradation situations. It isn’t a great help in qualifying, although they may be able to hang on to the tyres better in the final sector.
Russell is the 2.00 favourite for pole, with Antonelli 3.25, Norris 8.00, Piastri 9.50, Leclerc 19.00, Verstappen 29.00 and Hamilton 41.00.
Russell looks a bit on the short side and Antonelli a bit too big. He is on the back foot having sat out FP1, but he still has Q1 and Q2 to get dialled in before a final push.
2026 Barcelona-Catalunya GP Qualifying Tip: 1 point Kimi Antonelli to be fastest qualifier @ 3.25 with Livescorebet
I can’t find any qualifying group bets this weekend but there is one match bet with a bit of value. Piastri is a bit of a forgotten man in 2026, but he is 4-2 with Norris in GP qualifying. Norris was one of the drivers to sit out FP1 but was straight on the pace in FP2, setting the best time.
Piastri was 2nd in FP1, 3rd in FP2 and 2nd in FP3, ahead of Norris in 4th. Piastri was on pole last year, so he knows his way round the track and maybe deserves favouritism in the battle of the teammates.
Sadly, in the time it took me to write that paragraph, the odds on Piastri went from 2.08 to 1.95 with Unibet, but 2.05 will do.
2026 Barcelona-Catalunya GP Qualifying Tip: 1 point Oscar Piastri to beat Lando Norris @ 2.05 with Betfred
