Afternoon Reflections

It was a mixed bag this afternoon, but we was robbed! Ross Smith was poised to win 6-0. He was 5-0 up and ready to check out, before Burton checked out a 146 to win a leg. Martin Schindler missed a dart to win 6-4 and made a complete mess of the final leg to hand the match to Nijman. It was still a profitable session thanks to Menzies winning 6-3 and landing the 11.00 correct score bet. +1.80 points profit for the session.

Gian van Veen vs. Jeffrey de Graaf

De Graaf has won seven of his last ten matches and is playing with good consistency with a lot of low to mid 90 averages, like his 94.21 in his 6-3 win over Niels Zonneveld last night. He has also qualified for the next two European tour events, so he is in a good position to pick up some good ranking money. This is a tough second round match, however.

Van Veen has been off his A game since his gallstone operation in the spring, but he seems to be getting back to something closer to his best. He averaged 98 when reaching the quarter finals last weekend and he has won six of his last ten matches.

These two have met three times and Van Veen has won all three 6-1. De Graaf played poorly in all three, all sub 90 averages. So long as he has not got a mental block when facing Van Veen, I expect he will win more than one leg this evening. How many? That is harder to say, but I will take Van Veen to cover a -1.5 leg handicap.

Jonny Clayton vs. Damon Heta

Heta beat local hero Karel Sedlacek 6-4 last night and now faces a man who has won two recent matches against him. Clayton beat Heta 6-3 in the Australian Masters world series event and won 10-7 in the World Matchplay. Heta has won six of his last ten matches and is scoring well, if a little inconsistent.

Clayton has won seven of his last ten matches and is playing much the same as Heta, a bit inconsistent. He has only lost one of his last nine second round matches.

Their H2H record is 9-8 to Clayton and on the Euro Tour, it is 2-2. Clayton is the 1.67 favourite, Heta 2.30. Fair enough given their recent H2H form, but there is nothing to get me excited in what is a tricky match to call. No bet.

Gerwyn Price vs. Callan Rydz

Wiggy beat Cristo Reyes 6-1 yesterday and played well, averaging 96.14. He has won seven of his last ten matches and played some good stuff. He doesn’t often do much on the Euro Tour and has only ever won four second round matches from his 31 previous appearances.

Price has won ten Euro Tour titles and has won ten of his last twelve second round matches. Price has won seven of his last ten matches but he hasn’t played for nearly two weeks, so he may be a bit rusty.

Their H2H record is 3-3 and in their best of eleven leg matches, all five have been over 9.5 legs. Four went all the way to a decider. Maybe Wiggy has a chance here? He is a 3.25 shot, but I will just go for an overs bet.

Luke Littler vs. Niko Springer

Littler makes his return to the Euro Tour after missing the last eight events. He would like to get more ranking money on his European Championship tally as he currently sits in 22nd place (one ahead of Springer) and the further up the O.O.M. you go, the better your draw, in theory at least.

He has won eight of his last ten matches, both in short format games in the Players Championships. Littler still played very well, but it is a harder format in which to dominate.

Springer warmed up for this with a 6-0 win and a 102.48 average. He is, of course, a German, and we know Littler has a bit of a problem with the Germans. There are likely to be a few Germans in the crowd and Littler may not be in his comfort zone.

Their H2H record is 2-0 to littler. There was a 6-5 win on the floor last year and then a 10-6 win in this year’s Matchplay.

Littler is the 1.13 favourite, Springer 6.50. Littler has only ever lost one second round match on the Euro Tour and is unlikely to lose this one, but Springer loves to be the underdog and he is fighting for German honour. Maybe he makes a match of it.

Luke Humphries vs. Beau Greaves

Beau Greaves became the first woman to win a Euro Tour match, but more importantly landed our bet to beat Gurney. This is a much tougher task, but Humphries did lose his second round match last weekend to Dirk van Duijvenbode and only averaged 92.67.

Greaves has won just four of her last ten matches at senior level, so we shouldn’t expect too much. Her job has been done. These two have once before and that saw a 10-7 win for Humphries at the UK Open.

Humphries is the 1.36 favourite to win, Greaves 3.40. We have seen five of the eight seed lose this afternoon, but Humphries should be fine here. No bet.

2026 Czech Darts Open Saturday Tip: No Bet

Michael van Gerwen vs. Mario Vandenbogaerde

Super Mario got the better of a hopeless Dirk van Duijvenbode last night. Dirk averaged 77.51, and Mario’s 80.70 was more than enough. Mad. Vandenbogaerde has only played six second round matches on the Euro Tour and won just one, beating Jonny Clayton last year. He can be very good, but he usually isn’t.

MVG is vulnerable and will be happy to be facing a fellow Dutchman who might be in awe of him. However, Mario did win their last match 6-4 in a Players Championship match last year.

MVG is the 1.29 favourite, Mario 4.00. Van Gerwen is worth opposing in most matches these days, but this isn’t one of them for me. No bet.

2026 Czech Darts Open Saturday Tip: No Bet

Josh Rock vs. Ryan Searle

Being second last on may mean that Rock will be ‘over refreshed’. He certainly was when beating a terrible Joe Cullen last Saturday night. He was lucky that Cullen was absolute dog shit.

Joyce ground out a 6-5 win over Huybrechts yesterday and he was far from his best. Winning with his B game really is something of a party trick and he just keeps on winning matches on the Euro Tour. He has played nine second round matches and won seven. However, he did lose one to Rock, 4-6, in ET4.

Rock is not in great form, losing five of his last ten and hitting eight sub 92 averages. His H2H record with Joyce is 3-3 and I have to give Joyce a go here.

Stephen Bunting vs. Luke Woodhouse

Bunting is scoring well enough most of the time, but he is losing a lot of matches. He has lost seven of his last ten and lost four of nine second round matches on the Euro Tour this season. His confidence is low.

Woodhouse, on the other hand, is a happy camper. Having a great season, winning a Euro Tour title, and rising up the rankings. He has won seven of his last ten matches and hit seven 97+ averages, including five ton plus.

Bunting is 13-2 in their H2H’s, but Woodhouse did manage to win their last match 5-4 in last year’s Grand Slam.

The market can’t split them and both can be backed at 1.95. I’ll go for Woodhouse.
