It was tough going for James Punt this afternoon but he’s aiming to bounce straight back. His 2026 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday preview and tips are below.
Afternoon Reflections
This afternoon’s session was a blood bath betting wise. Woodhouse missed a match dart to ease the pain, but the rest of the bets were not close. Tom Sykes blowing a four leg lead to lose 4-6 was a proper kick in nuts. 5.50 points lost and a tournament tally of -5.20 will take some fixing. Just the three bets for the evening session before one last tilt in round three tomorrow.
Stephen Bunting vs. Jonas Masalin
Jonas Masalin has had his fun, beating Kevin Doets 6-4. To be fair, he didn’t win, Doets lost, missing 31 doubles. Masalin averaged just 76.03…and won.
Bunting isn’t in great form but he is the 1.13 favourite for a reason. No bet.

Jonny Clayton vs. Laszlo Kadar
They are getting the uncompetitive matches out of the way early on. Kadar beat Daryl Gurney 6-5, fair and square, last night. Superchin needs to his act together or he is going to be missing out on another major. Kadar did play well, his timing was spot on, he hit four 180s and was 42% on the doubles. Can he do it again is the question. The local qualifiers rarely do.
Clayton is just 1.08 to win and as we are on him outright, there is no need to get involved here. No bet.

Madars Razma vs. Keane Barry
Razma has got lucky this weekend. Not just getting a call up from the reserve list but being put straight into round two and a guaranteed £3500, with the chance for more. He has won just three of his last seven matches and one of those defeats was a 0-6 loss to Keane Barry. Ouch.
Barry beat Martin Schindler 6-2, averaging 100.77. He has won six of his last nine matches and is playing well, but lacking consistency.
Their H2H record is 3-3 and Barry has now inflicted two 6-0 wins over the Latvian. Their two matches this year saw a 6-5 win for Razma in April, and that 6-0 thumping for Barry this week.
Barry is the 1.71 favourite and deservedly so, but you have to go back to April 2023 to find the last time Barry won a second-round match on the Euro Tour. For that reason, I will skip this match.

Luke Humphries vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
Humphries got the rust off by winning PC28 on Wednesday. It wasn’t classic Humphries and he dodged a few bullets, but it will have set him up nicely for this event.
Dirk van Duijvenbode beat a local qualifier 6-1 last night, but the tournament proper starts now. He has won seven of his last ten matches but lost two of his five second round matches on the Euro Tour, including one to Humphries.
Their overall H2H is 13-3 to Humphries. The Englishman has won their last nine in a row and is 6-0 on the Euro Tour, three of them by a 6-4 margin. He is the 1.40 favourite but I will have a tickle on another 6-4.

Michael van Gerwen vs. James Hurrell
Hillbilly played through the pain barrier to beat Damon Heta 6-5. It was a very good match and he averaged 99.70 to Heta’s 100.67. He has a throwing arm injury and he was clearly feeling it, but it didn’t prevent him playing well. Will he suffer any aftereffects? Maybe. I guess a player higher up the rankings would have taken the weekend off, but he feels he needs the money.
MVG is not in good form, losing five of his last ten matches, but he has won his last five second round matches on the Euro Tour.
Their H2H record is 3-0 to Van Gerwen and their two best of eleven leg matches ended 6-4 and 6-5, both on the floor. I may have entertained the idea of another close match, but Hurrell’s injury is a complicating factor. No bet.

Gian van Veen vs. Nandor Major
The second of the local qualifiers to make the second round. Major beat Niels Zonneveld 6-5 in a fairly ordinary match, but he got it over the line and will have a very large crowd on his side tonight. It wasn’t his first Euro Tour win, he beat Ricardo Pietrczko in 2023 but lost his second round match 0-6 to Damon Heta the following day.
Van Veen has been off the boil since his gallbladder operation many months ago. His out of form is losing three of his last ten matches and he is several leagues above Nandor Major.
Van Veen has lost four of his nine second round matches on the Euro Tour this year. He will make it five from ten tonight. Van Veen is the 1.11 favourite and this is not really a betting match, but could he inflict another 6-0 defeat on Major?

Nathan Aspinall vs. Ryan Joyce
Joyce produced one of his doubling masterclasses to beat Cristo Reyes 6-3. Reyes outscored Joyce, but he was poor on his doubles and Joyce picked his pocket.
Joyce has become very proficient on the Euro Tour in the last couple of years, reaching two finals, a semi-final and three quarter finals. He has won twelve of his last seventeen second round matches and he sits in 9th place in the European Championship O.O.M.
Aspinall is 4th in the same O.O.M. In his last seventeen Euro Tour events, he has won three titles, was runner up in another and reached three quarter finals, including three of his last four played. He has lost eight of last eighteen Euro Tour second round matches, so he does blow hot and cold.
Light Schedule
The Asp has played a very light schedule in 2026 and he returned to action in this week’s Players Championships after a five week break. Aspinall has won six of his last ten matches and hit 95+ averages in nine of them.
Joyce has won six of his last ten matches, five seeing sub 90 averages. We are likely to see something of a repeat of yesterday’s match with Reyes, but Joyce can’t rely on opponents not taking their chances all the time.
Their H2H record is 6-4 to Aspinall and on the Euro Tour 2-1, with Joyce winning their last match 6-3 in the Belgian Darts Open in March.
Aspinall is the 1.36 favourite, with Joyce 3.40. We have backed Aspinall outright and that is enough interest for me. No bet.

Josh Rock vs. Joe Cullen
Rock has won six of his last ten matches but eight saw sub 93 averages and he is far from his best form. Cullen got off the mark with an impressive 6-3 win over Adam Leek last night, averaging 97.55.
He has won five of his last ten matches but lost six of his seven second round matches on the Euro Tour. His last second round win was back in April. It has become a bit of a mental block for him and he has won just two of his last sixteen second round matches.
Their H2H record is 1-1. They have not played for two years. Rock likes it here having reached a semi-final and two quarter finals in this event.
