Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips
It was a tough start for us on Friday night but James Punt eventually landed a couple of nice winners. The darting drama continues in Austria today and there are some great match ups. Check out James’ Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open tips and preview below.
Krzysztof Ratajski vs. Patrik Gosnak
A bit of a mismatch to open the show. Ratajski has lost five of his last ten matches and hasn’t played for three weeks. He has the 15th highest seasonal average and regularly hits ton plus averages. However, he is finding turning that into winning titles very hard.
He won the final players championship event in 2021 in November and he had a lot of good runs in majors last year, but so far in 2022, he has had a quarter and a semi-final in February, But since then he has failed to get beyond the fourth round in players championships, lost two of his three Euro Tour matches and lost his opening match at the UK Open.
100%
Patrik Gosnak has a 100% win rate in 2022. He won three matches at the home nation qualifier on Thursday and knocked out Ian White yesterday. His average across those four matches was 81. It is one thing to beat an out of form Ian White, a player whose career is in reverse, and beating one of the heavier scorers in the game. That said, Ratajski is not full of confidence and is poor value at 1.14 to win. No bet.

Damon Heta vs. Ricky Evans
Rapid Ricky came from 0-3 down to beat Johan Engström 6-4. The Swede was impressive but couldn’t keep the standard of his good start up and Evans found his gears and hit legs of 11, 12 and 13 legs to power past Engström. It was a good win and a 100 average. Evans has won six of his last ten matches, was runner up in PC6 and reached the last 16 in the UK Open. His win rate in 2022 is 62% and he is playing better than he has done for some time. His consistency is still not there, and he hasn’t won three in a row since that PC final in March.
Heta Top Drawer
Damon Heta is right up there with the very best players in 2022. He has the fifth highest seasonal average and a win rate of 75%. The only thing missing are the titles that he should be winning. It is good to have deep runs in tournaments, but he wants titles to go with the great play. He won PC5, was runner up in PC3, has reached three more players championship semi-finals, a Euro Tour semi-final and the UK Open quarter final. Plenty of doors are being knocked on and hopefully he can open one this weekend.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Heta and he won their only match in 2022 6-0. Damon Heta is the 1.30 favourite and Evans the 3.70 outsider. Given Evans’ upturn in form, he cannot be easy dismissed and he may well make life difficult for Heta. Ricky hit four maximums yesterday and if he can win legs and take the match to ten legs or more, we should see over 4.5 180’s. Heta is one of the biggest 180 hitters and hopefully the 180 cards holder in the crowd will have plenty to do.
Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips: 1 point over 4.5 180’s @ 1.83 with SpreadEx
Nathan Aspinall vs. Wesley Plaisier
Big Wes continued his winning ways when beating Matt Campbell 6-3 yesterday, averaging 96.1. His win rate in 2022 is 75% but that is mostly at Challenge Tour level. However, he has played five Euro Tour matches in 2022 and won four. His lowest average was 93.1 and his highest 104. He is on the crest of a Euro Tour wave and despite odds of 3.25, he will be no push over.
Aspinall is on his own crest of a wave, winning 74% of his matches, averaging 96.4. He is putting his injury worries behind him, Winning PC13 last time out and eight of his last ten matches.
We have backed him outright and The Asp should have too much for Plaisier, but the Dutchman will put up a good resistance.
Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips: 1 point Aspinall to win -1.67 with Boylesports
Ryan Searle vs. Zoran Lerchbacher
Lerchbacher thrilled the home crowd with his 6-5 win over Frenchman Thibault Tricole. He did it in some style, checking out 167 to win the match. He averaged 97.9 and if he can keep that up, Searle could be in trouble. Lerchbacher is semi-retired these days and has only played eight matches in 2022, winning just two. So, yesterday’s performance was something of an outlier. That said he was a tour card holder for eight years, so he knows the ropes.
Searle is averaging 97 in 2022 and has a win rate of 69%. He has won seven of his last ten matches, was runner up in PC11 and PC1, but he has lost both his Euro Tour third round matches 1-6 and lost in the first round in ET1. It seems he doesn’t travel well.
Searle is a consistent heavy scorer but has a poor Euro Tour record. I expect Lerchbacher will struggle to hit the same heights as he managed yesterday, and Searle can move on to a third round defeat tomorrow.
Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips:1 point Ryan Searle to win -2.5 legs @ 1.72 with SpreadEx
Joe Cullen vs. Jim Williams
Williams beat Berry van Peer 6-1 in a low quality affair yesterday. His game is improving rapidly and he has put nearly 5 points on his average since last season. He picked up his first senior PDC title in March and now looks at home in the PDC despite being a part time pro. He has lost five of his last ten matches but will have been happy to get his first win on the Euro Tour yesterday.
Cullen is one of the players on my watch list. Not for being a winner in waiting, but a player who looks opposable. He is struggling to cope with the Premier League schedule and it was interesting that Gerwyn Price made a late decision to pull out of this weekend’s tournament because he needed a rest. Looking at Cullen’s recent form, just four wins from his last ten matches and an abysmal performance when averaging 81 in his 3-6 to the equally jaded Price on Thursday night, he is hard to fancy. He lost 4-6 to Plaisier in his second round match two weeks ago and he hasn’t won a match in over three weeks.

Brendan Dolan vs. Gabriel Clemens
Two players who do not have any great form on the Euro Tour. Dolan recently was runner up in PC13 but followed that up with a 5-6 defeat to Martin Schindler in ET3 two weeks ago. Dolan likes his 6-5 results and in his last ten best of eleven matches, nine have seen over 9.5 legs. Clemens averaged 84.4 in a very one sided match with Tony Martinez yesterday. It was his first Euro Tour win of the year and like Ryan Searle, it seems he is not a great traveller.

Jose de Sousa vs. Madars Razma
Razzmatazz was in excellent form yesterday, averaging 108 in his 6-0 win against Michael Rasztovits. It was top class and the only disappointment for him was missing a nine darter. He has won six of his last ten matches but he lacks consistency, and he only averaged 77 in his defeat by Keegan Brown two weeks ago.
This is a repeat of their match at the German Darts Grand Prix two weeks ago, which Razma won 6-4. The Special One has won 67% of his matches this year but he just hasn’t caught the eye. He has had a few decent runs on the floor but only won four stage matches.
Will history repeat itself? Well, that 6-4 win for Madars will be fresh in both their mind and he will be feeling good after yesterday’s performance.
Saturday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips: 1 point Madars Razma to win @ 2.87 with Ladbrokes
Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Danny Noppert
Danny Noppert made hard work of beating Germaine Wattimena yesterday. He won 6-5 but Wattimena wasn’t great and Noppert just looked like he was missing a bit of sharpness, lacking a killer blow.
Van den Bergh has lost five of his ten matches and his 2022 win rate is 64% compared to 73% for Noppert. Their H2H record is 2-1 to Noppert and they have never had a close match. Noppert won his two 6-1 and 6-2, while Dimitri’s win was 7-2.
I fancy Noppert to win, but Van den Bergh is a class act and can never be dismissed.
