Friday Evening Austrian Darts Preview and Tips – JP

Friday Evening Austrian Darts Open Tips

Our ante post preview was ruined somewhat with the late announcement that, yet again, Gerwyn Price had withdrawn, along with Adrian Lewis. That meant a re-draw and the quarters got totally rearranged. Still, if a player is going to win, he will have to beat good players so hopefully we still get a run for our money. If you are having a bet tonight, check out James Punt’s Friday Evening Austrian Open Darts tips below.

Tony Martinez vs. Gabriel Clemens

We backed Clemens for the last Euro Tour event, the German Darts Grand Prix. He had been showing some good form on the floor, but he totally bombed, losing 3-6 to Martin Lukeman. Lukeman went on the have a good run to the semi-final, but Clemens was dreadful in that match, averaging 77.5. He has now played three Euro Tour matches in 2022, lost them all, and averaged just 86.0 across the three. For a player of his ability, he just hasn’t cut it on the Euro tour.

Martinez got his tour card in January, and he hasn’t really done much. He has beaten Jonny Clayton, De Sousa, Van Duijvenbode and Kim Huybrechts, but he only averages 86.5 and has lost seven of his last ten matches. He is a ‘has his moments’ kind of player.

This an easy opening match for Clemens, but he will be feeling nervous and occasionally Martinez has his moment and puts in a good performance. Against a player who is aware that he is underperforming on stage, he has a punchers chance.

Danny Noppert vs. Jermaine Wattimena

You know the script here. Wattimena is overrated and almost always opposable. He has lost seven of his last ten matches, lost all three Euro Tour matches in 2022 and he is up against major winner Danny Noppert. Their H2H record is 2-2 and 2-1 to Noppert on the Euro Tour. They haven’t played since 2020 and Noppert has improved while Wattimena is much the same. Both Noppert’s previous two wins against Wattimena have ended 6-2.

Jeffery De Zwaan vs. Mensur Suljovic

Is The Swan coming back? De Zwaan’s shoulder injury has put him very much on the back foot for the last couple of years and he has gone from looking like a future World Champion to making up the numbers. He has lost five of his last ten matches, but he has started to score better. His first 9 dart average is 99.12 compared to just 90.8 overall. He is checking out at 34% and if he can start to improve that that then he will start winning more matches.

We don’t get to see a lot of Suljovic these days. His game has been on the slide for a few years now and his seasonal average has slipped to 92.7, from 95.5 in 2019. He is still capable of hitting big scores but he lacks consistency and like De Zwaan, he has lost five of his last ten matches.

Their H2H record is 4-1 to Suljovic, who does have home advantage this weekend. Their last two meetings went to a deciding leg and this might go the same way.

Darius Labanauskas vs. Rowby-John Rodriguez

Lucky D is not in great form, losing six of his last ten and the last four in a row. Six of those matches have seen sub 90 averages. Rowby-John will have the home crowd on his side, and he is playing better darts than Labanauskas at the moment, winning seven of his last ten.

These two have yet to meet so there is no H2H form to go on, but Rowby-John is the call for me. He still lacks consistency, but he has scored well across his last ten and when his eye is in, he can really hit the big numbers.

Rowby-John is the 1.75 favourite, but I will risk being greedy and take him on the handicap.

Friday Evening Austrian Open Darts Tips: 1 point Rowby-John Rodriguez to win -1.5 legs @ 2.20 with Ladbrokes, BET365
