Sunday Afternoon Austrian Darts Open Tips
On Saturday evening James Punt landed another couple of nice winners, including Callan Rydz at 2.75. The action continues today at midday and he has another preview. Check out James Punt’s Sunday Afternoon Austrian Open Darts tips below.
Danny Noppert vs. Jonny Clayton
Noppert looked very good when beating Dimitri van den Bergh 6-3 yesterday. He averaged 103 and all his legs were won with 14 or 15 darts. That is very solid and hard to beat. Noppert has won seven of his last ten, has a seasonal win rate of 73% and has won the first major of the season.
Jonny Clayton beat Jeffery de Zwaan 6-4 is a fairly ordinary performance. He averaged just 91.6 and won three of his legs with more than five visits to the board. He has won eight of his last matches, has a 2022 win rate of 68% and is averaging 97.5.
Clayton had averaged over 101 at the Premier League on Thursday but just 91 last night. The question must be is how much has he got in the tank? Two weeks ago, he opened up with a 102 average, a 96 before losing in the quarter final with a 91 average.
Noppert is the fresher player he is great form, and his performance last night was top class. Clayton’s wasn’t and he made hard work of beating a fairly ordinary opponent. It is Clayton who is going to have to raise his game here.

Joe Cullen vs. Krzysztof Ratajski
Cullen put in a much improved display to beat Jim Williams 6-4. Williams was not without his chance to win but Cullen had five legs of 15 or fewer darts and he looked a different player to the one we saw on Thursday night. That win will have settled him down and we might now see the Cullen that enjoys the Euro Tour so much. That said, he has won just four of his last ten matches and his confidence will be fragile.
Ratajski had a facile 6-0 win over local qualifier Patrik Gosnak, but he did a proper job on him, averaging 101. Ratajski has won six of his last ten and scoring well has rarely been a problem for him, but he hasn’t won as many matches as he should have.
These two last met in the final of PC30 last November and Ratajski won that 8-7. Overall Cullen is 4-3 in their H2H’s and in the last two years, 3-2. On the Euro tour it is 2-1 to Ratajski, which is a bit of a surprise given Cullen’s record.
Cullen is the 1.73 favourite with Ratajski 2.37. Hard to argue with those odds, but there might be a bit of value in Ratajski.
One area where Cullen is better than Ratajski is 180 hitting. Cullen hits them at 0.32 per leg, Ratajski 0.24. Cullen is the sixth best maximum hitter on tour and he rattled in five against Williams yesterday.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Madars Razma
Razma got the better of a struggling De Sousa again yesterday, winning 6-3. Both players were pretty poor and Razma averaged just 88.9, well down on his 108 in the first round. Nathan Aspinall was glad to beat Wesley Plaisier 6-3 as he was in a bit of a flap after a difficult journey to the venue. That win should settle him in, and we should see a better performance today.
Aspinall is the better player by some margin. He has won 74% of his matches this season despite being injured. He has won nine of his last ten matches and is in top form.
Razma has a 2-1 H2H record over Aspinall but The Asp is better in just about every department. Razma has his moments and is still improving but he doesn’t usually have the fire power to live with an in form Aspinall.
Aspinall is the 1.40 favourite, Razma 3.20. The Latvian looks a little short, probably due to his 108 average in the first round. That was his best ever average and he is unlikely to be in that range again today.

Zoran Lerchbacher vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
Lerchbacher is the home crowds last hope for glory. He is really enjoying the experience and he is under no pressure to win. He is a part timer nowadays and he is just having a blast. He beat Ryan Searle 6-3 but it was another poor Euro Tour performance from Heavy Metal, who could only average 86.4. I expect more resistance from Dirk.
The Aubergenius beat another Austrian, Rowby-John Rodriguez 6-4 yesterday, so he knows he is going to get abuse form a very partisan crowd. He handled it well enough but he might need to up his game.
Their H2H record is 4-1 to Van Duijvenbode, he has won their last four, but their last match was back in 2019.
Duijvenbode is the 1.33 favourite, Lerchbacher 3.50. Those look about right but it is a strange match with the outsider being the crowd favourite and a player who is having fun is a dangerous one. I’ll sit this one out.
Sunday Afternoon Austrian Open Darts Tip: No Bet
Michael van Gerwen vs. James Wade
James Wade looked like he was going to continue where he left off in Thursdays Premier League as he opened up with two 11 dart legs. Claydon won the third before another 11 darter from Wade. He then switched off and cruised to a 6-3 win and a 101 average. He has won eight of his last ten matches and is on a roll.
MVG beat Cameron Menzies 6-3 but it was just a so-so performance with a 92.7 average. Van Gerwen has won six of his last ten matches and these two have seen a lot of each other in 2022. Overall MVG leads 46-19 and in 2022 it is 4-2. They last played on Thursday and Wade won that 6-5.
MVG is the 1.60 favourite, but given the form Wade is in, I’ll go with the outsider.

Gabriel Clemens vs. Rob Cross
This is only the second time Clemens has made the Sunday on the Euro Tour and he has never gone beyond the third round. He hasn’t really been tested so far and Dolan let him off the hook yesterday, missing 12 doubles. He nearly turned the game round and was ready to make it 4-5 before Clemens checked out 116 to win the match.
Cross defeated Josh Rock 6-2 and averaged 100 doing so. It was another good performance from Cross and he looks a good thing to win this. His win rate is 70%, seasonal average 97 and he has won six of his last ten.
Cross has a terrible H2H record with Clemens, losing all five of their previous matches, including a 1-6 thrashing last month. However, he is playing well and Clemens isn’t. Time to end the hoodoo.
Sunday Afternoon Austrian Open Darts Tip: 1 Rob Cross to win -1.5 legs @ 1.67 generally available
Danny Jansen vs. Ricky Evans
This will be the shortest match of the day, even if it goes to a deciding leg. The two un-seeded players knocked out two much fancied opponents yesterday. Evans beat Damon Heta 6-3 but Heta wasn’t himself, averaging just 90 and he never really got going. Heta averaged 91.8 mostly due to poor doubling, he missed nine and Evans was able to take advantage with a decent performance, but he had three winning legs of 17, 18 and 19 legs which usually would be punished.
Jansen is the new kid on the block and getting all the attention. He beat Luke Humphries 6-2, but it must be said that Humphries had an off day, missing 10 doubles and averaging just 83.6. Jansen took advantage and his was good display with four legs of 15 darts or less.
Rapid Must buck trend
Rapid Ricky hasn’t won three matches in a row since losing the final of PC6 on 20th March, so he needs to buck that ten this afternoon. The same can be said about Jansen. He hasn’t won three in a row since he won PC9 on 1st April. The difference between the two is that Jensen won his final and that he is young, in his first year on tour and doesn’t have the scar tissue that Evans has. Ricky is trying hard to be more consistent, to win more matches and start winning titles. He is putting pressure on himself, but that is what he must do in order to improve.
This is a big opportunity for both players but I think that it means more to Evans and that might be a problem.
The market makes Evans the 1.95 favourite and Jensen 2.00.

Callan Rydz vs. Stephen Bunting
Two non-seeds and one of them is going through to the semi-final. Rydz has averaged 97 across his two matches so far and he disposed of Peter Wright last night, 6-3, despite Wrights ton average. Bunting has averaged 93 across his two matches and he has lost eight legs compared to Rydz three.
Their H2H record is 1-1 and they are players at a similar level. Rydz is the heavier scorer this weekend but over the season they both average 94. Both are in decent form Rydz winning six of his last ten, Bunting seven.
It looks like an even contest and the market has Rydz the marginal 1.91 favourite, with Bunting at 2.10. I find it hard to disagree. Rydz has looked convincing so far and he can do better. Neither are especially consistent, and Rydz loses more than he should but Bunting doesn’t win many titles for a reason.
A tricky match to call. I fancy Rydz to win it but Bunting is certainly capable of winning legs and he is not without a chance. Neither of their previous matches have been close, 6-1 and 6-3, but their last match was in 2020 and Rydz has come on since then.
