Curragh Sunday Racing Tips

Just three of our selections ran on Saturday. We only landed one place, with Royal Crusade at 9s, but our other two tips weren’t far off. Desert Dreamer got no sort of run and she was unlucky to miss out on a place in 5th. Twilight Jet ran a massive race in the Middle Park. He was beat 1.5L for the win but he only finished 5th. So, while we didn’t get paid at least we got a proper run for our money. I like a couple in Ireland this afternoon, check out our Curragh Sunday Racing Tips below.

4.05 – Ladies Trophy Handicap (0-85)

A typically tricky looking renewal. Takarengo is a friend of the blog having placed for us in the Cesarewitch last season. He got back to winning ways last time at Clonmel (16.5f gd). However, the drop back to 12f has to rate as a big worry for this fella. All roads surely lead back to Newmarket for him again and he should get a run off his current mark. Surely connections won’t want him carrying any more weight than is necessary for his repeat bid. He would incur a 4lb penalty if he won this.

The one I like at a decent e/w price is Melburnian. Trained by Tony Martin, this daughter of Zambezi Sun shaped very nicely at the Galway Festival off 75 behind Bell Ex One (14f gd). She was disappointing last time over today’s C&D but that was on soft ground. Her last couple of wins have come on that sort of ground. However, she is probably better on good ground with a slight ease in it.

Those were the conditions at Galway and she was beat just 1.25L in a hot Cork Handicap by Perfect Tapatino in June 2019 on good to yielding. She is 4lbs lower than when winning at Leopardstown in October 2019 and with her jockey’s 5lb claim she is weighted to be very competitive. At odds of 14/1, she is worth backing each way with 6 places on offer.

4.35 – Joe McGrath Premier Handicap (0-100)

This 5f sprint will be contested by 15 horses and at massive odds, Mi Esperanza could go well. This daughter of Dandy Man ran a poor race last time. Perhaps it just came a bit too soon after her career best effort in a Listed heat at Tipperary. She had just a week off between those two runs but her trainer has given her a three week break since her last start. Previous to that excellent Tipperary effort she finished just 1.25L behind Strong Johnson in 4th over today’s C&D on good ground.

That came off a mark of 80 (Strong Johnson was off 94) and with her jockey’s claim she is 6lbs better off with that rival today. Pretty Boy Floyd was runner up and there is only 1lb difference in what they carry this afternoon. Goodnight Girl was back in 7th and she scored next time out so it is solid form. Her Tipperary Listed form is more than decent too.

She was just 1.5L behind the 105 rated Harry’s Bar (getting 5lbs) and she was a length ahead of the 93 rated Back To Brussels. If she could repeat the level of form from either of those two efforts she is surely capable of running into a place off 86. A few firms are paying 5 places so at odds of 50/1, Mi Esperanza is worth chancing e/w for small stakes.
